I’m a huge fan of Minecraft, NO Man’s Sky and all these types of game, so this game interested me immediately.
I also love the MMO aspect.
But the game seems very light on things to do.
I’ve looked at a ton of videos trying to find what kinds of things there are to do in the game, and now I’m asking the people playing the game.
I don’t see any farming or hunger systems.
Right now it looks like building is the main focus of the game, and that’s fine because I like building the most, but I’d also like other things to do.
farming is one of the big features currently being worked on atm.
Hunger exists in game in the form of energy - your energy bar slowly depletes overtime and can only be filled with food.
In terms of content, theres:
Building - which is expanded with chisels allowing for more detailed shapes outside of blocks.
Forging - which is like MInecraft’s enchantment system, but with a lot more steps and possible effects
Hunting - where meteors fall from high tier worlds and spawn waves of enemies players can kill together, with the main reward being the meteor loot - best part here is that the loot given to each person in their own instance, so no stealing is possible.
As well as gathering, shopkeeping, and plenty more stuff.
For me the main draw of the game is the lack of PvP along with the ability to claim land noone else can build on, meaning you can’t get griefed. Really encourages people to work together and be nicer, more so than in Minecraft anyway
This game has a much steeper progression than most other similar games. Don’t expect to get to end-level tech in a weekend. If you solo it and are playing a decent amount, it will probably be a few weeks before you’re there.
Some people say it’s grindy, but I think that’s just because they expect the same thing as other games in the genre. I think there’s plenty of variation as you’re progressing, but you aren’t delivered everything on a silver platter hehe.
EDIT: that being said, if you’re into games with good progression, and not just an empty sandbox, you may find yourself addicted
Exploring for me is amazing. I also love the mindless numb of grinding. After a long day of work come home and i just go mine. Farm for resources on the surface. Zig and Zag between mobs with my gatherer. i can go on forever though i am at work so i will leave it to everyone else. ALSO BUY THE GAME!
I’m also well over 2000 hours in and still love it. what attracts me to this game is building. it’s how I distress after a long day or week. between boundless and rimworld I may never need to buy another game. more is being added every month so by this time next year I expect it to be a whole new game.
I say throw caution to the wind and make the perches. even as a game you only play 20 percent of the time it’s worth it. the people who stay become fanatical followers and the people who don’t moove on quickly.
know that to progress there is a defanate time sink but it leaves you feeling like you accomplished something when you stand back and view your build. just don’t forget to fule your beacons.
Also, the community is great. Players will go out of their way to help you 9 times out of 10. Thus game has been an all around positive experience for me. Cannot recommend it enough.
They are actively making updates & adding things. They take feedback from the community. They are working on adding farming soon & mailboxes. There are 48 big beautiful planets for you to explore. Level 1 lush planets are great to start off in.
You will be making a campfire (temporary), beacon, beacon fuel, crafting table, etc using the beginner tooltips/tasks. It will help guide you. As you progress, you will be able to make brews, pies, tools, blocks, machines, etc.
Also I would suggest, if you can use discord, to get into the official boundless discord server.
Another thing that no one mentioned (at least from what I skimmed) so far are guilds, which are a new addition to the game, at least as an actual game system. They already existed sort of non-officially and they’re a great way to get involved with the community.
Besides that, welcome to boundless and if you need any help starting out, send me a PM here on the forums and we can figure out a way to meet in game.
Oh, and grapples. Parkouring around in cities with a grapple in each hand, spiderman style is entertainment for hours.
If you end up on the US West planet Angel 1 you are welcome to come build near the town of Quark. We are a settlement of nearly 10 daily players. @blinvir and myself are usually on in the evenings (pst) during the week and most of the day during the weekend. We will be more than happy to help you out. We also have easy access to The Ultima and Portal Seekers hubs to make it easy to travel to any of the planets.
