😢 This makes me sad

the one thing to remember is if someone builds on your favorite spot for resource spawning, those resources will spawn someplace else. During regen the planet wants to put back a certain amount of a resource, so you may need to look else where but they are not gone permanently. This is why I think in the case of surface resources trying to talk players out of building some place just because you might like to gather there is unnecessary and can be a turn off for a player that was building there. Who are we to tell other players where they can and where they cannot build. Where does this end? Can I come up to you and if your build is my way for any reason I can tell you to move it and if you don’t you are a bad player? Ultimately the developers have the ability to change the spawn rates of resources (they did this in EA) so if a resource ever becomes too rare they can address this.

As far as the players walling off diamond spawning areas, the developers do not seem to think it is a problem so far and has been stated the website seems to indicate this behavior is allowed. So if you think it is an issue, I think you need to address your complaints to the developers and not the players. While I have not engaged in doing this, it is the game.

Curious @Kal-El, so does this mean that they become more dense on ice elsewhere? Because if so, that’s awesome for efficiency.

Edit: to expand on it. So if all ice but one area was plotted does that mean potentially all blocks would have a snowdrop plant?

Is this indeed how it is @james, @lucadeltodecso, @dave, @vdragon?

I dont think plotting will ever be solved, no matter the system, there will always be disagreements about what we can or cannot do or what is right vs wrong. We go through the same thing with people expanding or even just trying to find somewhere to settle whether new or not, the ā€œyou cannot build here because I’m hereā€ or ā€œcould have built the other wayā€ even just being able to see someone’s build from their place can upset someone. I understand some people are bad or maybe just seem inconsiderate when plotting/building but how does one actually play the game with all these hidden rules, what if you are considerate and ask the first few people if it’s ok to settle and they say no, what then? What is the required distance to keep because the game doesn’t say, all we have are buffers and as long as I’m on the other side I can plot? Is that ok because the game let’s it, I would think so. It’s obviously not considerate and again I can understand why it’s upsetting when it happens but not everyone has the same view on what’s considerate, some could say 5, others 50+ and that’s min not roughly. We cant control where people plot, all we can do is accept it and move on…(not talking about blocking someone in etc as thats against coc)

I believe the algorithm is set up this way but I have a feeling long before that the developers would step in and adjust where the snowdrop plant occurred. They could make it appear on more planets or on different surfaces or different biomes.

Its not.

So if all areas of a particular resource are being plotted byebye resource?

Yes, if not it’d be a pretty big exploit: plot all diamond but 1 area ~~ huge 100% every block turned to super dense diamond every regen.

Yeah that makes sense. Would it be the same problem with surface resources?

So what will happen if all the hotspots area be walled off, preventing access from any means. Plotters quit playing, leaving those hotspots untouchable, and noone get a thing?

That is why it makes me sad.

Because if they are all walled off or plotted, then we have to look to ā€œnon-hotspotā€ locations for resources. There is always somewhere else to get a ā€œthingā€ā€¦ just maybe not as easily or concentrated as these rare hotspots

We need new planets then
And as I posted above, I think plotting up or down should only use a half plot. This would encourage more compact builds. And cooler ones!

someone mentioned they even have to hire servers to host temporary exos… so…

So more vertical plotting would be a good thing

Maybe we shouldn’t be allowed to plot resources :woman_shrugging:
(edit to add: this is just food for thought, after reading some replies here…it’s not a suggestion lol)
