Warp Issues

So, this is one for the devs I suppose (on that note: @james :joy:)
I was doing some tinkering with my character entity, setting the head offset to 100. Then I moved the portal in the sanctum up to be level with my head. However, when I try to activate the warp I get this message:


Any ideas, or is what I’m doing impossible? Thanks.

@willcrutchley are you running this on some sort of hosted VM? because that’s some slightly crazy spec hardware but also numbers that don’t seem to match up to the raw hardware specs.

Yeah as I say probably unrelated to the issue but was surprised when you see an Intel Xeon with only 3 cores etc, so figured it must be some sort of shared VM. Interesting to know that it works though.
So how exactly are you “tinkering” with the values, just tweaking the asset json files? I think the error message you’re seeing is maybe a bit wrong and it should actually just be saying it’s inactive rather than anything about number of connections. I suspect there’s maybe something makes the warp fail when you’re moving it so we probably need to replicate whatever you’re doing to work out exactly why.

So I edited the entityarchetypes.json and under player there are some values called head :

“head”:{“offset”:[0,100,0]}

normally that would be set to 0,1.8,0 but I increased it. I then used setBlock {in “rerun.json”} to place 6 warp conduits where my new head would be in the sanctum. After opening that warp that is the error message I got.

Does the point of interaction move also? I was thinking that you maybe should not move the portal if you still interact with it where the body is. Just guessing wildly.

For some reason I can interact with it. Maybe the Interaction distance is measured from the head? Anyway, that’s what enables me to open the portal.

Interaction is typically decided based on a ray cast of where the character is looking, so moving the head should also move the interaction. Worth pointing out though that once in an actual world rather than the sanctum the head position server side would not be taking into account your changes in the local assets, thus if you went into a world with this setting you would “mis-predict” everything you were interacting with probably giving you a very bad experience.
I’ve not had a chance to look at why the warp doesn’t work but it could be something similar, although the client has mostly full control of what’s happening in the sanctum the world servers will only let you open warps to locations they think you should be able to, by adjusting the position of the conduits in the sanctum you may be breaking that rule and trying to open an invalid warp of some sort, however I’m not sure that this would be the case but it’s possible.

So the game doesn’t like tall people :joy: basically my plan was just to get out of sanctum to take a screenshot, so no real need to interact with anything on a real world. I appreciate you guys trying to figure something random like this out :+1:
