I’d assume the devs don’t agree with a perm turn off option because there is no cost or other game association to it. The quirks give people the ability to have some ability to remove things while still having the possibility of a negative effect or have to pay in some way to generate the effect.
I would think for those that feel the weather isn’t perfect that they should do tests or some other things to prove that the balance is off. The team would more likely be willing to tweak the rain amount and other things much faster than they would to give the full "off’.
it’s a survival/PvE part of game and that should stay the same for all players (even playing field)
so as long as Boundless is a game with survival/PvE side at its core, all players must experience the weather effects (with option to tune it up/down I suppose for players experiencing physical/emotional distress due to how their perception is conditioned)
the day it changes (Boundless drops its survival side), it will make sense (and will be the end of this title for many)
creative mode is where that kind of weather on/off option is viable at the moment
that’s subjective
I find snow very pleasing to the eye and I love wintery looks of players’ builds and nature alike.
I don’t even use plot view to remove snow layer when I build or chisel or gather, cause it’s still possible to do it (I understand that some might prefer to switch snow off through plot view - we all differ in perception).
I want to disable snow because of what you said in what I quoted, not just turn snow down, but completely off, because of the color obstruction snow does to my visual pleasures of building colors which I strongly crave to look at.
Can only be banned for botting type of mods from my understanding(only forum of mod they came out and said you’ll be banned for). Unless you have a disability then that type of mod is okay.
it would make sense if it were a graphics setting on PS4 but only if this would improve the HORRIBLE render distance, cant even see most builds in its entirety cuz of terrible render distance
maybe a bad comparison but according to your statement, WoW would be a badly balanced game because everyone can use different Uis and graphic settings
but just the freedom makes it so much better
besides it makes little sense that boundless loses the survive status because the weather has no influence on the game itself like debuffs and especially it is not always the same for all players
but you would still die when you eat nothing
I understand that so very much. We are all induviduals, and so snow should be an option due to varying views of varying players.
I loathe the snow in this game. I loathe snow in other games, like Wurm Online which I purposely do not play during the snow season because of how gross the snow all over everything is, I cant tell rock and dirt and grass apart from eachother because of the snow. I’ve heard people say they love the snow in Wurm Online, but for me, I deeply loathe the snow.
Visual hypersensitivity, cPTSD, Dominantly monotropic, bi-polar tendencies, and many things I cant get diagnosed cause it costs too much of my time and mental energy. Snow obstruction to what I want to look at is infuriating to me, RNG in games is infuriating to me, locking the freedom of no snow behind several layers of RNG is a sundae of infuriation. To much irritation and I lose control of my phsycial self as my body tries to remedy whatever is upsetting regarldess of any ‘thought’ I personally wish.
I’ve had to give up so many visually beautiful games because of devs deciding to add more challenge to their game, and adrenaline causes me physical pain that can last for hours or even days.
I cant ever expalin enough how much damage changes to eye candy affect me, as alot of this upset I dont understand myself.
I had to clean up a mess in my RL kitchen because I was so irritated from this news today, I could not hold my hands still
also, I HATE how people try to justify poo I dont want by calling it a survival game. Like trying to justify a hurricane by calling it just rain. Or trying to justify thundering booming painful ear pain when all I wanted was to get that collectible that can only be bought next to a firing range (I’m straining a little for parables right now)
I like to build, collect, explore, but I HATe the stamina in the game. I hate dying in this game. I hate the combat.
Creative is NOT a better alterantive as I cant go out and mine. I love mining for hours, it is super relaxing.
I HATE SURVIVAL.
I like to build and look at eye candy and explore.
Creative doesnt work for me because I cant harvest, every block I want to manually craft for is giving to me for free instead of me taking a few swings to collect it (I love mining), and oh gosh if I had a nickel for everytime someone told me to play creative in any game where they update with elements I dont want and no opt-out options outside of totally quitting the game, I’d probably be able to buy a Wii.
I dont want to go to exos because of how dangerous it is for me to deal with the dangers, but man the blocks in there, I get so angry because I have to put up with all sorets of unwanted stuff in order to get pretty blocks I want. Everytime I play, I get angry about the stamina drain, which I wish didnt exist.
gathering, hunting, building in fog or storm is more difficult; anything that impairs your visibility does affect your gameplay
UI doesn’t matter
I could have pink main menu here or differently placed bars and event log - these are not part of environment, it doesn’t make me go hungry slower or affects how well I see through rain, snow or fog; it doesn’t make creatures blind to my presence etc. This is simply arranging of necessary on-screen elements the way that suits you and everyone has ability to arrange it the best way possible (for them).
As for graphic options - are they affecting ambient elements in the world (location you are in)? Can you switch off fire breath of a dragon or magic spells visualizations so they don’t disturb you? I know nothing about WoW as I don’t play it.
Thank you for saying that which I agree with so strongly.
Yes, particle efects are graphic options last time I played.
Edit to add: WoW players can disable visuals to where my character died from standing in pools of fire because default settings of the pool’s visuals completely negated the visual effect of the pool. Lack of the visual made the pool of fire look the same as any other part of the static floor, but the damage wasnt negated whatsoever, Pool of fire was just as deadly if it was seen.
I quit WoW, a beautiful, visually pleasing game I loved to look at (and still love to look at) because they made it too hard for me to keep up with gear score (required to enter beautiful playing fields), so I had to stop continuing my enjoyment of the eye candy, a longing for that I still have, but saddens me I am unable to keep up with the required in-game activities to enjoy every pleasurable visual the game has to offer to me.
my point was boundless would not lose the survive status if everyone can turn off the weather
The currently existing viewing distances and quality settings are stronger than all weather together and dont make the survive part obsolet
and yes weather, paticle and co can be massively influenced in wow and the ui difference is like normal player having no infos about crafting recipes in boundless and having to search every mass craft externally on the web first and players with modified ui would have the current infos ingame
I agree. These options are awesome . But not on gear. But part of beacon control. So the creator of the build can give their build a theme for everyone to see.
Additions like these make me want a road map EVEN MORE than before.
A road map so me and my friends can voice against coming additions before they are a part of the game.
But now, Any want for snow removal would be conflicting with players who are earning currency with the boon. So any mod being used to remove the effect would be devaluing the in-game value of the boon that players spend time on creating.
Without a road map, there is zero window of time for other players like me to strongly voice “DO NOT WANT”
The mod to remove weather effects should be banned for devaluing in-game activities. I wish anti-snow was a graphic option, specially when such a needed effect is now not available for brand new players, or streamers, where visuals can have a negative effect on some players experiences.
I absolutely love that Idea!
I’m pretty sure I wanted that option for my sovereign world and I’m pretty sure I voiced about the option somewhere in the context of an option I wanted for my sovereign world. A world option for my sovereign world to disable snow is a strong desire for me. Disabling snow effect on the ground has been a desire of mine long before build mode removed the snow effect, a length of time I cant remember how long.
but it seems Wonderstruck doesnt want to make non-snow available to everyone, for reasons I cannot fathom… nor successfully object to.
Anti-weather boon is now a thing, and any kind of objection I have to that boon (or whatever the in-game term is for the thing put on tools) for existing, could be met with correction by people who value their profiting off boons.
I’m strongly tempted to give up on this game, if only there were other games to satisfy me as much as some of the many ways Boundless satisfies me, I’ve yet to find an equally satisfying environment.
I love forging and I love survival. And I’m a PC player who is able to use mods and does use them.
I agree with OP. Since you can get some effects thru mod, it provides an unfair in-game advantage (altho small, cuz all u have to do is buy a tool with the quirk) to people who use the mod. Doesn’t really make sense… I’m glad they’ve opened up weather control to everyone but I don’t really like that you have to buy it and be holding the right item.
I do not find it interesting that the new meta is autoloot glow clear weather wayfarer totems, sticking some more features onto the things everyone already carries. Or quirky grapples. Swapping hands is a thing that happens and putting weather options in settings would just be a better experience.
Indeed, another thing about this addition of the boon that I dont agree with. I could have been a skill in the character page, but now it takes up a hotbar slot which is very limited already.
I already disabled rotation of my left hand due to the bug that makes the left hand fire off when not holding the mouse button. I set a totem with glow on that hand, now I have to spend time to make currency to find a tool to have glow auto harvest, and whatever that effect is, plus another effect to prevent my left hand doing any durability damage to the tool I am holding nor damage/change to the environment… my brain feels like it figuratively exploded at the complexity of what I just typed.
