What are we doing?

Pretty much. We can always dream of change, lead the horse to water, but getting them to drink…is another story.

Gaming is in a sad state at the moment though. But hey, I’ll support active games and future development for sure. Not that my opinions or analysis actually matter here.

Going free to play and doing a server wipe won’t fix the issue alone. Even if it’s free to play people won’t want to go through the pain of starting out with the new player part. If they don’t stick around through that you just reach the point to where once again you have dead beacons laying around and new planets popping up causing the company to dish out money for new servers being created. Once again they would just be in the state of running in the red to run the game. There’s needs to be more done with the game then just making it free to play and doing a server wipe. Other things need to be revamped like the new player experience and certain things being explained in more depth like things like forging, hunting, how meteorites work etc…

Completely agree.

Not to mention, the games needs to be completed and look something like the original trailer with the boss like enemy, etc

It is playable and I like it, but isn’t finished. I can play it as is for hours but a complete revamped game would appeal to more players

I just have mixed feelings over the game lately being honest about it. I feel the is complete in the sense it’s playable as is but broken at the same time because things aren’t explained as well as they should be and some mechanics could be changed to make things better

I have rarely found a F2P game that wasn’t filled players you don’t want to play with. Most F2p are not enjoyable enough to stay with. Even with over 11K hours in Boundless I would walk away with all the great memories of the game.

Plenty of F2P games without a toxic community mostly ones without PVP. The game would need a major overhaul before F2P could even work. If they jsut magically made it free to play and we had an influx of 10K-20k players I don’t think it would be good as more planets would spawn and never despawn… would be cool to see though.

I will never understand these forums, most people should be able to see both sides of this and keep a level head and have a civilized discussion about the game and it’s current state whether you are ok with how it is or if you aren’t.

You have people that are committed to playing the game to the bitter end and are perfectly fine with how the game is totally nothing wrong with that. You also have people that have left due to how they feel about Monumental and some of the owners previous statements about gambling and monetization practices, you have people that have left due to no updates, empty promises, toxic players, and many other reasons.

The fact of the matter is the current 50 or so players are the minority, all the other 300-400ish that were around on Steam and PS5 left due to all the things I mentioned above. Not to mention the many others that left due to a bad new player experience and various other reasons.

The game has issues if it didn’t it wouldn’t have such an abyssmal player count on launch and have lost so many players and while I do see some of the same people complaining about it, many of those people would come back if there was a change for the positive and to just write anyone off or beliitle those that quit and didn’t stick it out until the end isn’t any better than shaming those that still play because they like the game.

You know what I also saw? New players complaining about it. I spoke to a few and they didn’t enjoy the new player experience, I specifically spoke to them because I gave them keys including some folks from the Rye games video. I think I gave out about 100 in total in an effort to get more people and also just see what their thoughts were.

In the end, the game is what it is to you. If you like it, play it and if you don’t, don’t play it. But the forums are here for discussion and engagament and if you don’t like what someone has to say, good OR bad, you can always ignore it. People are going to ask about the state of the game, people are going to post cool builds, people are going to complain about Monumental and people are going to post about them streaming the game. You choose what you consume.

I quit the game in a sense, but would come back tomorrow if I saw a glimmer of hope from Monumental, more precise, Monty.

I have mad respect for most that still play and many that left. I stopped playing simply because from a moral standpoint it’s very diffcult to stomach supporting a company that doesn’t seem to support the community.

Just respect each others opinions, I know anyone that still posts on these forums do so because they like or did like the game and just want to see it continue or get better.

Completely agree with you. But if the company decides to go that direction, they are not going to care about that.

Completely agree with you. But of course if the company did go that direction they would not care about that.

I have worked in corporate environments my entire life, at every level from the lowest data entry person, all the way up to VP. I know how this stuff works and I would bet money that the lights are still on in this game for almost the same identical reason we have not had any updates:

They have all hands on deck elsewhere. In other words, they have bigger fish to fry, other more expensive fires to put out.

Imo, that is good for us because the game is playable as is and we still have the availability to play. I strongly suspect that at some point a financial audit will be conducted, and they will determine that the game is not worth leaving on. And poof, it will be gone in an instant.

Being an off the radar subsidiary, product, or division of company is not necissarily a negative. Especially when, being on the radar might lead to a very unfavorable outcome. Enjoy the game while you can. I know I am

Having worked for the largest Telecommunications company in North America for the last 32 years I can tell you that some of what you say is true. But a small leak in your boat can also sink it. This is not the first leak in their boat as you well know if you have read the history of this companies acquisitions. As Red pointed out any change in the game will take investment and they are not going to do that when until they can make it break even. It was in the red before they bought it. It is no better then it was almost 4 years ago. We can always hope that could change but I think we need to realize we are at the bottom of a hill pushing a very big rock up it. They ultimately own the game and can do with it as they want no matter how many coins we throw in the fountain.

I still think one of the most important things the game could actually change is the new player experience, in order to help retain the few people that trickle in here and there.
It’s a bit obscure and quite hard to bump into the people that do remain, which if made easier would make it more likely to make friends and work together with eachother.

I at least don’t think I would have hung around as much as I did, if I hadn’t met other players and ended up being guided a bit by them. Didn’t even know the planet I started on wasn’t in my region, until they told me.

I’ve seen too many newbie shacks vanish into thin air without a word, just while doing stuff around the island I’ve hung around for years. :frowning:

I saw this a lot in my first guild. We had people join, build a place, and then never show back up again. Even after most of the guild moved on to other guilds and left our small village, there was the small newbie shacks still sitting there. I think a lot of them bought a year of gleam club and that’s what kept the build there.

Monty did say he wanted to improve the NPE based on his experience. But really, I look at it like my previous job back at the start of 2021. No news, no roadmap, no communication, no real updates. We have lights on and should enjoy what we have. For me: The game ran its course and no longer have the drive to gather 360 items, refine them, process them, produce things. Or run around to find shops that will buy my goods on a consistent basis.

I am sure that there are mature players out there looking to find a game like boundless that just haven’t had been spread the word about how great Oort shards are for ones digital life.

The heII there hasn’t been. It has been unreal watching the same people who ran people off complain about people leaving the game.

People leave because they want to. Same with staying. It’s a decision.
How they rationalize their decisions is another matter.

There were some players who bullied other players causing them to leave. That’s been well established multiple times.

I don’t deny that.
It’s just the universe is big enough and there are so many great people to meet. Even when bullied out of one group or place, one doesn’t have to leave the game.

I totally agree. I’ve seen people I really like quit the game without notice and no way to contact them otherwise. Some I haven’t seen in years and still miss them…

This response is probably the most reductive logic-type thinking I have come across. Acknowledging the ‘decision’ while ignoring the ‘catalyst’ is an impressive display of intellectual avoidance.

By reducing the real bullying within the game and on the forum to a simple binary of ‘wanting to stay or leave,’ you’ve successfully managed to absolve those responsible of any causal role in the current demise of the player base.

a catalyst and a cause are not the same

a catalyst triggers a mental/emotional response
that first response can be ignored when making a decision (“despite being bullied, I won’t leave the game”)

this doesn’t absolve anyone of their behaviour, but responsibility for bullying is not in someone leaving, but in inherent vileness of such behaviour

Saying bullied people should just find a different corner of the universe is like telling someone to stay in a house that’s on fire because the basement isn’t burning yet. Ignoring people’s experiences is like ignoring the smoke and pretending everything is fine because it is currently a great experience for you
