I agree with all of that and haven’t thought he was being malicious at all. I felt uncomfortable with how I was writing that scenario because it was looking like I was saying “Phil might be doing this”. It’s purely an example of how a fact can be stated without context, and worse yet- within the context others had laid out (which was that the game is hanging by a thread), to manipulate peoples’ outlook.
I could say I haven’t eaten in 6 days and you’d think I’m starving myself but really I’m drinking 10 massive smoothies packed with fruits and veggies and protein every day. I’m not lying but what is that small piece of truth worth?
For what it’s worth, I can name at least 10 individuals that played virtually every day who quit as a 100% direct result of those posts. Rumor went around that the servers were being shut down, that it was all over. That was supposed to have happened already…
It didn’t happen, and those players aren’t back. HSE is all but dead. So there’s your proof that the facts were manipulated.
That can’t be put on Phil. He was perfectly clear in his statement:
The real issue in my eyes were:
Players like me who have a tendency to over-react and be doom-sayers
James who prefered being silent over managing his community when it was worried
And yeah, I think the main issue comes from James, because if he wasn’t ghosting us, guys like me wouldn’t be ‘doom-saying’. I mean, I’d still be a buttface complaining about a lack of furniture items and roadmaps, but that’s another story.
I really just saw a statement by someone and figured I’d suggest some caution because I had seen too many posts of people assuming things afterward. That is all I was trying to do originally. The rest of my posts were to try to give some context to my views.
Nothing more to be confused about or attempt to figure out. It does no good to try to “read into” my words for hidden meanings or what ever other ideas that it might be suggesting. That is why I felt the need to comment on the lie response because of what in my view it could direct people into believing I was saying. I wasn’t trying to argue about who is right or wrong or what is fact or missing information.
As I said I haven’t talked to James (about any of this). I won’t comment on any back rumor GOOD OR BAD from other people about this on either side of the situation (SE or Boundless) because not enough data is being shared for me to know all the facts and what is true versus just stupid junk and assumption.
I’m in no way putting any blame on Phil. I read all his posts and appreciate what I learned from it. But then I stopped reading the thread because I could tell people were starting to get carried away.
Just wanted to share my perspective as I’m experiencing the effects of the whole ‘whisper down the lane’/‘telephone’ thing.
I understand completely the pros and cons of a wipe. I also know there would never be one, so its a moot point, however I think its a fair topic to discuss with different perspectives.
As a one time leader of a large guild, and city, I would have adamantly said NO if someone asked about a wipe a couple years ago. In fact, there’s likely a post hidden away on the forum with my then, opinion.
Now that my city has been reclaimed ( by choice) and no longer there… except some remnants here and there, I find it refreshing to think of starting it all again… although I have no desire to lead a guild or city, nor do I want to grind for it all again….
