What is your best future?

Ahhhh - I forgot something else! Very important:

  1. Fishing! Yes fishing! Whether in Stardew Valley, Harvest Moon or other rpg like Final Fantasy - fishing relaxes even in a game and makes fun!

Im thinkin the jetpack is more for vertical movement. You wouldnt have much speed going horizontally. Would also make it easier to use while building.

Very nice lists of additions in this topic

Would be cool also if our characters would stay in world as NPCs and characters could be hired got that way some extra coin

This would really nice thing, I hope game engine could have like mega planet for this

My short list, much same things like others have written.

  1. UI improvements
  2. Trains (also other vehicles)
  3. Character customization
  4. Better building options, without need of forging: scaffolding, rotating blocks, locking block direction etc
  5. PVE improvements, so that wild hunting would be more interesting
  6. Fishing

for me more ingame games and more competition between guilds maybe some non destructive way to battle eachother

For the game to be made fun for people who don’t want to group up.

Oh that would be fun

Maybe bring out a new planet just for pvp now and again and maybe gain a reward like a special token or something to collect at a shop owned by the devs :grimacing:

Now who is up for that game experience?.:+1:t3: I’m in

Best future… Ok, but the list is really long!

Systems:

  1. Private & Public rented planets (My personal #1 priority)
  2. Minigames (maybe Ortian themed chess/draughts/cards tables)
  3. Npcs with simple AI to make towns feel alive
  4. Passive animals, with creature taming and breeding.
  5. A way to take for players to take longer-term breaks and come back to the game with more than just you can fit in your backpack.

Character

  1. Player races (largely cosmetic only)
  2. Either - Remove skill points as they exist currently. Skill would only level that you actively use, with unlimited but diminishing returns / exponential requirements.
  3. Or -
    1. Divide skills into ‘core’ and ‘specialist’, then limit ONLY the number of specialist skill points that can be spent at any one time.
    2. Some form of Alternate Advancement for your character as a whole (See Diablo’s Paragon system), to keep veteran players interested.

Combat:

  1. Overhauled and more responsive combat system
  2. Protectors & Titan
  3. Melee weapons
  4. New creatures (Your concept art is fantastic).
  5. PvP of some form (Not a preference on mine, but it is good for a game’s longevity)

Building:

  1. Simple Interactive blocks (A light switch that can toggle one or more light sources, or a button that can open a door)
  2. Tools to build dungeons for others to explore (spawners, triggers etc). Possibly in an instanced space?
  3. Picture Frames for in-game screenshots / images.
  4. Plinths used to display items.
  5. Music Boxes.
  6. Functional furniture - Things like a dinner table that causes you to passively restore hunger while within X plots.
  7. Blueprints

Exploring:

  1. Atlases that you can rotate yourself.
  2. Gliders. Imagine: Slingshot yourself high into the air, then casually gliding several hundred blocks (…and then being hit by a falling meteor)!
  3. Variable planet Gravity.
  4. Ocean planets & features
    1. Much higher sea level
    2. Water breathing brews/tools
    3. Aquatic plants & creatures
    4. Fishing
    5. An aquatic playable race that can breath underwater but not outside of it
  5. Cave planets
    1. Mantle at top & bottom of the world.
    2. Spawns larger cave pockets.
    3. Very Low ocean
  6. Gas planets
    1. No mantle
    2. Limited blocks as you get close to the the bottom.
    3. No ocean.
    4. Fall off and you die.
  7. Temporary structures to explore
    1. Spawned by the game in unplotted land
    2. Last for a period of time and then regen as normal.
    3. Have a chest/storage device that each player can claim a reward for on first visit (to encourage exploring together)
  8. Maze Exo-words.
    1. Auto generated
    2. No block destruction.
    3. Times a players attempt to traverse the maze.
    4. Fastest runs win prizes.

Crafting:

  1. Craftable Cosmetics (super rare drop ingredients, for example).
  2. Alternate routes to obtain currently forge-specific features (An AoE augment, items to ‘freeze’ and ‘thaw’ liquids so they can be collected with regular tools.
  3. Machine repair removed (I don’t feel that it actually adds anything to the game).
  4. Spanners can instead be used in some way to increase the machine speed / decrease time remaining on a machine (so you can actively participate in crafting)
  5. Bulk storage other than a trade stand (A chest that can store 9-16 item stacks)

Social / Economy:

  1. Universal / Global systems for buying & selling
  2. Player Contracts
  3. Mail boxes
  4. Guest books
  5. Beacon Transfer
  6. Periodic system gifts

More people per planet would be wonderful… if it came without the lag that just 10 people in a world brings, lol.

And really big turtles.

And more blocks for building natural builds.

Best list evar? I think yes.

Imagine if the game explodes and grows to something like 10,000 players on at any given time… and the number of inhabitable planets is something like 500+

This game lacks transportation… yes portals and warps are cool, but personally i like to explore and would do that more if i could have some sort of mount or vehicle.
I dont mean it has to be going lightspeed… i just like to feel it more… meaningful and alive i guess.

Think about mount that you could upgrade for different things. Maybe forging own saddlepack that has glow effect? How rad that Would be.

I personally cant see myself playing this much if theres not going to be at least one of those things . Maybe if devs give reasonable explaination why not etc .

Either of these would be SUPER great!
I want a hoverboard for free building without a grapple that allows use of both hands.
I’d be fine with limiting this to within 1 plot of beaconed spaces I have build permissions.

In addition to the tons of great ideas above;
I’d like to run across some naturally occurring warp stones that transport me someplace new. Maybe this is a way to introduce instanced content or the idea of a random fun/unique/cosmetic reward. As a balancing tool the new area or reward would be based on character level + world level found on, including atmosphere. I envision a small area to explore and something interesting with some lore attached and a reward.

Things you might find:

  • A shrine to an ancient Oortian. It contains a place-able randomized (unique) object with instructions for you to spread the tale of this long lost Oortian explorer. i.e. show it off to your noob neighbors.
  • A big pile of gleam. Think a bigger than standard for the planet chunk or totally random color or just a non-normally found color.
  • An abandoned mine entrance. Inside is a temporary speed hammer and is loaded with something great to mine, level dependent. Maybe put it on a timer. Maybe you get to pack everything you mine into a crate so your inventory doesn’t overflow.
  • A long lost grove of mushrooms. A place just chock-full of level-dependent 'shrooms.
  • A giant beanstalk to climb and get a horde of beans
  • A HUGE dormant meteor with an appropriate cache of oort.
  • A Gleambow meteor
  • Ruins of a crashed/sunken vessel! Raft, Pirate, Tanker, Space, full of interesting goodies.
  • Ruins of a famous craftsman’s workshop. You can use this workshop to make new clothing or body paint or some other cosmetic thing. Variations for a Cobbler, Tailor, Painter or Hatter (is that a real thing?)
  • An abandoned forge. Forge ingredients, an increased stats unforged item for you to forge.
  • A nest of some mysterious creature! Maybe it’s a fight, maybe it’s a rescue, maybe it’s an egg-stealing raid, maybe it’s a McDuck money bin of coins!

Anyhow, you get the idea.

Millineries are run by a Milliner. They be the hat people.

Or we could just call it an old haberdashery and it could have any one of those things

Read through a few of these and there are some great ideas here. My thoughts:

  1. Having straight up flying or any sort of flying machines/jetpacks would ruin Boundless - really hope they never add anything like that. However, gliding would be cool, but still it’ll need to be just that, if you jump of a 100 blocks you can glide 200 before hitting the floor 100 blocks below. (My thoughts are how flying ruined Minecraft long distance transportation)

  2. No I’ve poo pooed flying, more transport would be a great idea. But fixes transport that needs building (thinking more of a train track system, but oortified). Ground mounts would be cool but only if they want slightly faster than running because I think grappling should be the fastest way to travel, so a mount would just be the more sustainable option.

  3. I really don’t lie the idea of private planets, especially with a smaller population. Pretty sure you’ll never bump into anyone if they’re wanting on their private planet. As all a private planet can be is a basic starter world or purely creative as if you could have rarer resources on it that would negatively effect the economy.

  4. I like the idea of your skills leveling up as you use then more. ie, if you want to harvest trees faster, then get to whacking trees to level up your lumberjack skill (to hit harder and faster).

  5. Combat - some more moves, styles of play. I prefer to fight with dual fists, but I can’t do that past a certain level because of resistances of mobs, we’d need gem fists to counter that. And shields but I’m pretty sure I heard they’re in the pipeline anyway, because not being able to deal with the cuttletrunk citizen-seeking missiles is kinda annoying at time. You can block it with a block pillar but the explosion still hurts you.

  6. The main thing that would give Boundless longevity imo, would be automation/interactive features for building. Being able to make elevators, auto sorting (with a certain way of designing your storage system). Item transportation. Imagine if you put an item into a storage block and then it would travel down a spark link type block then empty into another storage block or machine.

  7. Being able to domestic-ise animals (having a pet Wildstock that won’t despawn - a limit as you could just have hundreds and crash the server obvs)

  8. PvP. Nuff said - would love to have some competition and reason to get better at combat.

  9. Have water move mobs/players/objects - this would allow for some crazy unlimited creativity.

  10. Instanced content with a group limit. Basically a strong meteor fight but it’s challenging because you can’t bring 30 people.

I want to add one more to my list, something I was just thinking of as I was ravaging all the landscapes today.

A loot filter. Basically a list of all the items where you can toggle off items you don’t want to pick up. Might be even better if it would make it so the items just didn’t spawn at all when you destroyed the blocks - keep things less cluttered. Especially useful if farming a smaller area like a gleam spot like I was doing a bit ago where my piles of junk are around waiting to be picked back up.

Edit: Oh, just thought of something else, sorry! Just have to add though - A Donate Shards option you can toggle for portals. If you enable this, anybody can put shards into a portal - BUT, you are unable to remove any shards from the portal (toggle off and you have to use up the number of shards there before you can remove any or close the portal). A lot of people ask for Oort shard donations… but a lot simpler and people more likely to donate I think if they can do it directly to the portals they use most. Hmm, almost tempted to make a separate topic of this one!
