What ways are people utilizing factions?

Does anyone use factions? If so, in what way?
I mostly just use my own guild, but sometimes it would be handy to have a guild parent to help with buff activations or higher tier buffs.

What ways would lumping smaller guilds into bigger, older guilds be useful? Would it be helpful to bigger guilds to activate two buffs and let the factions activate the last one?

So we used to run our main guild with 3 buffs, and a hunters faction with hunting related guild buffs. People could set their primary guild to the faction or the main guild depending on what buffs they required.

If the main guild and the faction share a guild buff, you can do this.
