So. We have all things possible to use for communication except for one thing, world chat. I’m sure people here enjoy talking to people randomly, but its limited to shouting, and sure you can whisper. Although, what if you wanna have a group chat when everybody is scattered all over the planet? So is the world chat a bad idea? Would it put a load on the server, or would it be simple enough to pull off? Most games that supported text chat usually had a world chat or a region chat on it.

World chat is terrible. Ask anyone who has played any recent MMO.

Hmm, it would have to depend on different sources on how people utilize world chat. Its kinda hard to tell if there would be trolls or not, because we really don’t have a world chat. You could have like a city chat or a one region area, or something, but that’ no different than a world chat to be honest. I’d like to be able to talk to people across the planet to see if like “Hey, what color gleam is here? - Where are the good mining spots? - Want to meet new people!” Etc, etc. So forth, I feel that it will urge people to explore and find places they’ve never been just because they met and talked to a nice person when they were on the other side of the planet. That trip towards them could be a good material run. It all depends, that’s just my opinion. I used to play WoW. I’m a WoW veteran, I liked the world chat. I met some fun and cool people on there, you can always just block the trolls. (I tried the new expansion, just couldn’t get back into WoW. I’m all burned out on that game.)
World chat would just be spammed with people trying to sell the stuff everyone already has… I’d recommend discord for a chat like you guys are talking about…

I agree with Lky-7-Clvr, a planet-wide chat will just be spam and a waste of bandwidth.
I would like to see city (settlement) chat, though.

I think that’s how the chat works now… based on the region you are currently in… there’s 50 regions on an atlas so there’s 50 different charts available per planet
While system wide chat seems like a bad idea perhaps a system wide mail system would work. Have mailboxes be a craftable item and allow friends to send mail anytime and strangers to leave mail if they visit your mailbox. That way you can get compliments and suggestions on your build.

As long as strangers have to visit your mailbox I am in. I do not want to be spammed by every store similar to what happens in real life.

Instead of ‘World’ Chat, how about Settlement/Town Chat. Where the people that have plots connected together, can chat together, even in other worlds. So you can work together getting the resources needed to help the town/settlement/capital working together.
Maybe even add an option in your beacon connected to the town to turn it on or off the chat for that town, for those that own multiple plots in multiple towns.

Allow world chat but make it cost like 1000 coin per message.
This will stop bot/spammers and another money sink system is always welcome.

I think world chat would be fine if its optional. I personally dont want to see it.

I do not want to see what two people are chatting about on the otherside of the planet either. I would opt out.
