Anyone else noticing things not loading in?
That was dragon hub yesterday. Took a good 30-60 seconds for it to load.

Can we talk about mining for a second? I was on a t6 world trying to mine some diamonds and i kept sliding all over the place and the blocks i’d hit would come right back after i hit them. hitting them for a 3rd or 4th time got me the resource i was trying to hit. These were normal tools, on the same spec i’ve had for 5 years, no brews, no speed tools. I like a slow grind. i didnt have this problem before. my network is fine and i’m not getting ‘unplayable’ or anything like that.
happened a few times to me over years - packet loss or something, servers not getting info about your actions continuously, thus several tries needed to really update the world status and show it on your end
current changes might have make this occur more often than before, but I mined some last few days and never had a problem (although I mined in my region so had low ping and all; maybe if I went to mine in AU or US West, I would experience some trouble)
James never “abandoned the game.” He spent years of his life working on it and then trying to fix some decisions the lead dev made that didn’t turn out well. Countless hours trying to undo game loops that needed to be fixed and working on things like free to play, automation, private universes, etc. Not to mention dealing with crappy Publishers that took advantage of the game and actually barely did any advertising making things get even worse. Not to mention Sony which kind of forced it to go to release when it wasn’t ready.
He made plenty of mistakes as all developers do but he did not abandon Boundless. He and the team deserve credit for probably the prettiest voxel game out there. Instead of having his studio go under he get the deal with Balders Gate and kept his people having JOBS. Someone came along and said “I have deep pockets and want to dev the game” so James did what was right for Boundless and sold it instead of keeping it in limbo.
As for Portals - The Universe was vast, there were supposed to be communities and groups working hard to keep the Universe accessible to everyone. The game never had a full optimization or balance pass because they were still fixing core game mechanics that they knew needed to be fixed. Anything “quick fix like” that is done should be thoroughly tested and really thought about going forward until an actual game plan and roadmap is built. Things in this game change massively as the player base increases so we don’t want to repeat history and create more bad reviews and a community that is too critical for honest mistakes or attempts to make things better.
When I talked about Oort seams there was never a thing brought up about them being on harder planets so I’m not sure where that was coming from. If it would happen it should certainly be rare. I know the portal automation was an attempt to make people’s lives easier but they were still trying to keep them limited or more “community effort to keep them running.” Effort vs Reward was very critical to them.
The whole machine revamps were going to be great. Shame things imploded before then…
Uh, so is James still here, working on the game, then?
I get that you were/are a big part of Boundless and I fully respect you and your tenacity for defending James and the game. But being real, James totally abandoned the game 100%. Defending him at this point isn’t in the best interest of the game, he killed the population, he started the exodus of people and he was silent about it for years.
Moving on to Larian was obviously a great move I would have done the same, but I wouldn’t have left the community sitting there wondering WTF. There are people that are mad at James for being silent and abandoning the game and the community.
I very much admire you, but James left us. It doesn’t make him a bad person, a bad developer, but he was a bad communicator by not communicating anything for almost 2 years, and at the end he was already at Larian and active on their forums., but never on his own.
I have mad respect for you Xaldafax, but defending James at this point is silly
Woooooo Passion! I love it
Really?
And then of course, closing the thread about the sale of the game to Monumental.
That’s almost 3 years ago that he walked away to pursue better job opportunities. At least be honest about what you’re doing. Let the community know, like “We got the opportunity to do work that pays more, so we’re letting Boundless go to pursue that.” Instead of 2 years of radio silence before announcing the sale.
BOUNDLESS is MONUMENTAL property now,
now it doesn’t matter who made it,
it matter WHO keep it running
and ALLOW us to play
Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of this. He’s not a bad person, but I wish he’d been a bit more transparent about that ‘update’ we kept being told was being worked on on the side, but never came to be. It’s something that made me feel a little bitter about it all, even if I would’ve 100% also joined Larian if I was in his shoes.
Imagine if they got to take Boundless with them to Larian with the merge, that’d have been wild.
Fair people communicate differently and see both the good and bad situations. They don’t make things up or selectively pick facts to try to prove points. They certainly don’t attack other people just because they aren’t willing to be part of the MOB to demonize the guy that started all this.
Every single one of you calling me out are a truly piece of work - not at all fair and honest humans. You ATTACK ME because I have a different view??? You try to slander me as being “silly” or unable to see reality??? You demonize me because you think I am defending James when I am not. You show that you are fully compromised with BIAS because you can’t look at the situation with honesty. I really thought you ALL were different but right now are acting like all those people that gave up on the game years ago yet conveniently keep showing up to complain and throw hate around.
I’m not defending James and never have and never would. I’ve been hugely critical of him on these forums and on voice when I talked with him. But, I’m rational and can see both the good/bad junk he did. James made HUGE mistakes and handled tons of things in a manner that wasn’t at all good. He and the whole team made MISTAKES. But, wow, imagine this - JAMES AND THE DEVS MADE SMART DECISIONS TOO. Funny how none of you can see past the “mistakes” for the good things that were done. Why? Because you have an agenda to demonize him or can’t control your hurt emotions so you attack him.
Why did he decide to not communicate? Mostly, because of exactly what you see in these posts above me and throughout the forum - people that can’t manage their emotions and just complain with no ability to problem solve or be honest about things. Everything done is WRONG. It’s ridiculous to blame him for the toxic attitudes and actions of so many that left or gave the game bad reviews. It is absolutely wrong to hold him accountable on some of these things people are trying to attack him on. Especially when we had an immature community that just expects what THEY WANT and cares NOTHING about the reality of the situation the game was facing. No rational evaluation - just James did this wrong, that wrong, such a bad bad bad bad bad man. BAD JAMES.
Get better words to describe your viewpoint because he did NOT abandon. Abandon means he just dropped it and walked away with nothing - which he did NOT. He WORKED ON the game until he SOLD IT. He kept the SERVERS UP, did maintenance, and continue to put hours into doing what he could. They were trying to split the last update into 2 so they could release something. He and those left were doing what they could to keep the game alive and going until someone asked to buy it. Then he put effort into SELLING IT. That isn’t “abandoning it.”
What is “silly” are the people constantly attacking him YEARS AFTER HE SOLD THE GAME. I really thought the people that were still here playing were better than this. I had thought we had people that could see that the first group of developers did the best they could and gave us a great game even though it had some flaws. But, it seems like the emotional disappointment just keeps people attacking instead of being rational fair humans.
I think many of us are VERY passionate about the game and that spills over and causes some emotional response in different ways by many.
I have been a huge proponent of the game and of James. I also can’t speak for everyone, but I do think much like other posts similar, no one is blind. James abandoned the game. Square Enix was paying for the servers and no longer could. A player reached out to Monty about purchasing the game to keep it going and they did. The 2 years prior to that James was silent, do I blame him? Not really. Was it good to leave everyone in the dark? Not really.
There is no attacking James on my end, it’s the simple acknowledgement he left us all in the dark and abandoned the game and the community.
We can just drop the subject, and if you felt attacked by me, I’m very sorry.
If it’s silly for people to “attack” him years after selling game, then you understand it’s just as silly defending him years after also.
Anyone else having lag when picking up items? I’ve had it happen before, but not this often. I pick up a lot of plants with the gathering epic. I can’t post a video clip but I have one. Hit it and “picks up” then replants itself and you have to hit it one more time to actually pick it up. Just happening a lot more than it used to.
What planet is that occurring on?
I was gathering on the blink exo
No, we’re disagreeing with you. We’re allowed to do that. We’re allowed to have a difference of opinion. That you feel it is an attack upon you…is a YOU problem. That’s YOUR issue to deal with.
Except we’re still here, still playing, enjoying, and supporting the game. And the CURRENT owners. James made a game. He made mistakes (doesn’t everyone?). He sold the game. He’s no longer relevant. Learn to deal with it.
Guys, we got a dev in here finally. Let’s not scare them away with our family drama
I have a theory about blocks popping in and out. I think I see it more when I am using tools that do not one hit blocks. I have almost no issues when I am using tools that can easily one hit blocks, such as when I mine using T6 hammers on a T4 world. Using a T1 hammer on a T1 world, however, I get the blocks that cannot be one hit (gravel, sand, etc) popping out and back in again. I think the issue gets even worse if critical chance happens to be on the tool I am using.
I have no idea where the calculation for whether a block actually died or not is, client/server/both, but is it possible it is the more complex calculations that are causing the issue?
One thing I’ve noticed since the update, is that when I access my world control on my sov it lags a bit then close the menu. It usually takes two attempts to get it to stay opened.
