XP balance seems really off, encourages specific playstyles

For an economy to work, don’t all forms of labor need to be viable?

Right now, if I want to level, I go hunting.

Forestry, Mining, Exploring, give significantly less XP, and that’s even with the recent buff.

If I die and have a 5,000+ XP reduction, there’s no way I’m going to be mining or chopping trees, or exploring, or crafting. I’ll go right back to hunting. I feel like I’m bein’ forced to hunt even when I’d rather just walk around caves an’ explore.

I don’t feel like I can do the things I wanna do because I feel penalized by the XP system for doin’ them.

Not to mention how block/exploration/forestry XP doesn’t scale by World, so a Tier 5 place still gives 4xp a block ugh…

Well it was that or you lose all your tools because they lost durability. Right now it seems the common direction the game is supporting is hunting over all other things. The devs do want a balance but I think they are having a challenge getting it since this is a MMO and they want team stuff while mining/chopping/etc are solo activities. It is a hard spot to be in to support all professions when the game is leaning toward “group” requirements. Even an economy is a group thing honestly…

If the economy is a group thing, then how is the economy going to function correctly if people would all rather hunt?

At this point I’m tryin’ to hit max level and regret ever putting points into mining. I should’ve just made a DPS build, hit max level, THEN respecced to mining or somethin’. I feel like 90%+ of this game is discouraged and I have to get through an endless wildstock grind before I can enjoy the mining/exploration/building that I love about this game so much~

i agree there needs to be a lot better balance when dealing with XP gain… especially for miner/gather/builder… concerning as you say… (for mobs you get 60 >300+xp depending on type and world… miners only get XX per resource and does not scale with difficulty of worlds… gatheres are the same…)

HUNTING IS VERY OP RIGHT NOW and needs to change (and then the hunters say WTF you goin to nerf us???) No one can win in this situation?

I can go to a tier 1 planet and mine 10,000 blocks in 2 hrs with maxed hammer stats. That is 40k XP from mining and 70K from turning the rocks to stone. That can be increased further with xp food. Imagine multiplying that by 3-9 when centraforge hammers become more prevalent. I think they have done a great job with balance.

The economy will function when the right full functional model is put behind it. Right now it is a very rudimentary thing focused on basic buying and selling of items with pricing being based on nothing but a bunch of people setting the price.

It does exist but is only a small part of the game. Clearly with some recent decisions by the developers they are trying to force people to create an economy but it is still missing some key things to really support it. Right now for me it seems as more of a function of allowing those that don’t want to grind as hard to spend some cash to buy from those that are willing to grind.

In fairness to the developers, they are trying to bring many competing games into a single one. So there are things that are unbalanced. They are trying to find the right way to balance each profession and we just need to be patient as they work on it. We know that building isn’t as important as group activities so I’m not surprised there is some unbalance because a lot of time has been spent on building these group activities like meteors.

If you want to get to the top of anything in this game then just take the short cuts that are available and not balanced… just take advantage of the design problems. Right now hunting solo or small groups seems much better than meteors and way better than anything else in the game. Maybe that changed with the new patch or will soon…

Why is this the first I’m hearing of it…

To be fully honest I can chisel my way to level 15 in an hour. That’s more of a ballance issue.

You’re missing out! 8). Knowledge pies double xp. You can make xp soup and bread too. Pies you need mixer coils though.

I have to sadly agree that we have a problem. I tried to mine with the miner and hunt with my hunter. But as my miner started going to higher tier worlds, his xp rate dropped as he needs more hit per block to get it.

So, sadly, I had to respec my miner to be a hunter and I’m trying to level him up that way. Eventually it will make me respec him back to miner later.

It’s just silly.

Mining is pretty fine

maybe if your either VERY rich to buy forged tools and whack 100 blocks in 2 seconds… or if you can forge yourself… what about those of us who spend money/SP on other things?

And even if you don’t use forged gear… tell me your secret to leveling a miner?

bombs
(at least 10 characters)

I’ve been mining on low-level planets to level and that feels like it gives on-par XP. I think the higher planets definitely need an XP bump for the harder blocks in terms of mining.

This is probably the disparity. I’m trying to level as a miner while searching for rare gems.

Tell that to @Gorillastomp (I haven’t read the whole thread so I’m not sure if he’s chimed in yet). Pretty sure he was the first to lvl 50 and didn’t get there by hunting… With our lean core hunting group, doing T3 and T4 planet meteors we still agree that the XP gain from most other means is faster. The size of the hunts has died down to just a few of us who are really just doing it for the oort, not the XP.

I’d love to know what hunting techniques you use to get more XP…

You’ll get more XP searching for coal on Grovidias Te, for example, than gems on a T5 because you get through more blocks.

EDIT: I worry if we buff higher tier planets for mining then bomb mining XP gain will be SUPER high

I will agree. . the bombs were not intended for mining but for mobs. .the players were just smart enough to figure out how to use them in other ways. . if they up the xp for mining on higher tier planets then they need to maybe eliminate xp gain for bombs. . if they weaken the block fine you get all the xp for striking the block, but no xp for blocks that are eliminated.

Edit: this still makes bomb mining a good way to get the higher value resources like diamonds

and it allows you to get good XP WHILE mining for diamonds. much better than hunting even now.

I would bomb mine if I could :frowning: got severe headache a few days ago when I tried because of the bright flash each time a bomb goes off. My eyes still hurt from the flashing lights sometimes sigh.
