A few questions in preparation for today's launch!

Good morning!
I’m very much looking forward to playing this when i get home from work today, but i did have a few questions in preparation! You all were so helpful when i posted my previous question, so thank you for that!

First of all, as I start the game i want to move far away from other people. I know there’s a lot to gain from cooperation, and I fully intend to participate later, but to start off, i want to be really, really far from any potential neighbours. Think other side of the least populated planet. I know there’s some kind of portal system in place, but how far would i need to run to get to “far”, basically? I dont really know planet sizes. If you can give me a minecraft-example, that will be easy for me to grasp! The idea is that when im building/mining/etc at start, i want it to be an empty land around me, with no other players, at least not at the beginning while im still setting up and making my stuff. I read somewhere there’s also stuff like hunger etc, would i even be able to make it really far after just making my character? Can you give me any tips?

Second, i had a question about mining and resource generation. Let’s say i dig a hole and make a few strip mining tunnels. Then i go to sleep, and come back next day. As far as i understand, the tunnels will probably be gone due to regeneration, right? If so, what happens to resources i found there? Should i dig same place again if i found resources? What if i didnt find them? Do resources always respawn in same location, or are they randomised? Not having to compete with established players for resources is another reason i want to start out further away from society :stuck_out_tongue:

Last but not least, any “Easy mistakes for newbies to make”? Basically, with all your knowledge know, what do you think new players like me will think to be a good idea when its actually a bad idea (or other way around)? Something like “Whatever you do, make sure you absolutely never XXX” or “Before you do anything else, you NEED to XXX”?

EDIT: Thought of an additional question! As far as i understand, characters need to specialise in something - i.e. you put skill points into mining, or hunting, or building etc. Does this mean that to be “effective”, i would need to run multiple alts, gather resources on one alt and then actually build stuff on another alt? Is there a respec? Is respec expensive? Am i misunderstanding this? Can alts share plot permissions, or will game treat me same way it would treat another player?

Many thanks, and see you all tonight!

You will more or less see where are active players when you will be first deciding your “landing zone”/spawn point. So this makes it easier.

Second - hunger is not a big problem, you should be able to find a spot for yourself and can beat leafs and find plants for food if necessary.
As for size of the planet, it takes me like an 5-10 minutes to travel half a planet length running whole time when i know terrain :P.
From my experience when final universe lunched, finding spot without much people is easy.

I would say depends how long this is undisturbed by players. Safe bet is after 24 hours you won’t find anything. Shorter, i’m not sure.

  1. Don’t be skill sets. Useless until you are 50+ level
  2. By alt char at the begging. You may not want to use it now, but having it, you are safe you will have it if you need it.
  3. invest at least 1 point in cooking. It helps immensely.
  4. When you will have access to energy regen epic, it is really helpful.

Edit: completely forgot that there was energy epic which was different from energy regen epic.

After you build your character , You choose where to spawn on the planet. You can see settlements on the planet with Orange/White markers. You can just spot the biggest settlement and choose to spawn on the opposite side of the planet which will be empty and with less players.

Thanks but i was mostly referring to whether the resources will regen in a same way?

Say i dig a hole, and find 4 diamonds and some platinum or whatever. If i wait until it regens, will i find same resources in same place again? So i can just keep coming back?

There is a skill named “Energy Epic” which increases your max energy by 3x. Stay away from that skill unless you have plenty of food source. Instead of that , you can spend points on “Energy Regen Epic” which is waaaay more useful  however this is something related to mid game not the beginning but I just wanted to tell you so you keep that in mind

Getting conflicting advice here people!

Energy Epic is useful but you will need to carry 100 cooked meat stack when going mining or exploring. However if you have energy regen epic , you will need less food to fill your max energy and regen will be so much that you will instantly fill your energy if u stay still 2 seconds. There is also a topic about the big downside of energy epic skill which you can check out.

You’ll see that everyone agrees energy regen epic is better than energy epic if you don’t have massive food supplies.

Sorry, i’m not in the game right now, I was thinking about Energy Regen Epic, mistook the name.

All good, thanks for clarifying! And thanks for answers!

I’ve edited an additional question into my OP btw, if you guys have a moment to look at that as well please? :stuck_out_tongue:

No , but when you view plot permissions , you can see your alt characters in friend list and you can give them full access in that plot

Yes . I think it is pretty wise to have one character for Gathering/Combat and one alt for crafting and forging and stuff.

So then realistically how should i aim to specialise my characters?

Should my first character be specced into mining stuff, second into building, third into gathering? Or?

Would appreciate some general advice (no specific builds, like put X points here and Y there, just general like “first char should be hunter with focus on X”) with regards to what to aim for.

Also, should i try to level chars at same time, or should i focus one first, then other? or?

Since you start on a beginner planet , you will not need hunting skills . And basic stuff don’t need advanced crafting skills . I suggest you start with gatherer character , once you reach a point where you should build metal equipment , you can level up your crafting character a bit just enough to get crafting skills . You do not need a builder character . 2 is enough. Both gatherer and crafter can build efficiently.

My setup which is quite well working out for me:

  • General crafter/builder which i started with and specialised only later. (you have some free reset skill possibilities, you get them with levels).
  • shovel digger/woodcutter for woodcutting and gathering fuel
  • hunter gatherer
  • dedicated miner

Planning to make dedicated forge worker (centriforge)/brewer.

This is working extremely well for me, but is also time intensive. I’m practically self sufficient, yet I’ve already sank 200 hours (±10) and i’m still far behind some veterans with people to help.

On the other hand this is immensely satisfying for me

My advice: don’t be like me and start on a hostile world, or whatever they call it. I was thinking in Minecraft terms… basically thinking the non-hostile worlds was like “Creative” mode. I forgot I can later move to a hostile world if I felt like fighting.

I wound up on a T2 world and I have been killed a LOT of times by these creatures called Stout Spitters, so I’ve had to start putting points into my health pool and such.

My other advice: When you craft a bunch of hammers to go mining with, don’t leave them in the crafting machine and only realize that when you’re deep in the bowels of the earth. LOL

I would argue, all character builds should have at least 2 points in health.

When you get to Tier 4, 5 and 6 worlds, if you don’t have those 2 points, anything one shots you, and as a Miner that sucks.

I second this- a little extra hp goes a long way toward a more enjoyable experience!

To add to that, I’d strongly advise at least one point in vitality and kenetic armor each per planet tier beyond t4. Creature’s damage get very high very quickly.

Lol, yeah I’ve done that myself a few times, crafted them then moved them from the completed crafting slots to next ones up (just storage in the machine) and then only realised when the one I’m using breaks and I’m looking for the other 9 I’d sworn I’d moved into my inventory
