Add "buy devs coffee" and "buy devs pizza" to the shop

TBH, I’d rather they don’t start selling block recipes.
I’d rather they’d stick to masks, body-paints, and I hope they add cosmetic armors.

But I’m afraid that this wouldn’t be enough if they went F2P, and I fear the effect it would have on their current work-speed. Would it make them slower?

If you guys don’t want to buy devs coffee, don’t push the button haha. There’s tons of stuff wrong with the game I got this idea from, but it’s growing atm and I at least think it’s a cool idea that the button exists

I think it’s a good idea. Don’t let others minimize the positive effect this addition could have. I’d happily by the Developers coffee or pizza once in awhile

Sure, sorry for derailling the conversation, BTW. Still, it’s not about “push the button if you like it” or not.
If they added it, I’d indulge and send a large 4-person pizza their way.

But Loadkill was still onto something.
It could potentially have a way more negative effect for the game’s reputation if this was added on top of the retail price + in-game store + Gleam Club.

I’m another that would be willing to pay for more customization. Not only that, but with the right headgear/outfit, I could even end up making another alt just for a certain look.

Maybe they can add the “buy devs coffee” button and be held to actually buying coffee then can work endlessly on new costume designs

And as for the side discussion here about new blocks… block variety is EVERYTHING when building. If Boundless is alive and well in 20 years, I expect to see blocks made out of every tangible material known to mankind.

No idea if they even wanna go f2p, all depends if they think it can be profitable if not…

But not in the micro-transactions store please!

Agreed… blocks updates are part of the game. At that point I also expect to have more clothing options for my characters than I do irl haha

We may wake up being able to fly around because between me and you having bought them 30 cases for the day, they kinda get loose with the super powers and updates. #beerdecisions :beers:

I just want to go on record and say I’d do this from time to time lol you guys are awesome

But like @AvaDancer said, the current data we have access to aren’t looking super healthy, though.
Sooner or later, some heavy changes will be required one way or another.

They might be tied to the economic model (like going F2P). Might be to the core gameplay features to make the game more casual.

Either way, some players will obviously be pissed and will leave and slam the door behind them. I myself am already planning to stop playing when Hytale is released, unless Boundless steps-up heavily.

But maybe the devs are just waiting to release some heavy updates before stepping up their promo-work to actively search for new players… but how long can they afford that?

Well you know that old saying. Workers are a dime a dozen. :stuck_out_tongue: the game could simply be released some where else and be a hit later. Regardless of anything from the past or us.

This game has cost me 2 English pennies for every hour I’ve played, getting cheaper and cheaper with every subsequent hour…

They could change Boundless to a bloody first person shooter and I still don’t think I’d have the right to complain with that sort of investment made :joy:

IMO sign color text is kind of like that, especially when some sign colors are literally illegible without gleam club.

I’d be down for a cosmetics shop if they did that instead of gleam club.

I think it might be ok to put some blocks behind a dlc pack paywall but to let anyone own or place the blocks - just you’d have to purchase to craft them. They did that in Conan and it was ok.

I think the bigger issue is playerbase anyway. I think we all believe (or hope) the lack of advertising is part of a plan by the devs where they are waiting to make more content before spending their ad money.

How about a £7800 option to buy @rossstephens a bike? This way he can get to work faster > faster updates. Preferrably a “Cannondale Synapse HM Carbon Disc Dura Ace Di2 2019 Road Bike”, pretty please.

The difference is that Boundless is not a typical game that you play to completion once or twice and then never play it again, Boundless is more of a “live service” game more akin to World of Warcraft or other subscription based MMO, but it’s completely subscription free. Games like this make sense to have all sorts of monetization- Full retail price + monthly subscription fee + in game cash shop for cosmetics + a premium service/ fanclub. Boundless is very minimalist in this regard, with no sub fee and a non-intrusive cosmetic shop.

Games that run as a live service have constant operation costs and provide constant updates beyond the sale- updates that in boundless are completely free. You could- and many players here in fact do play boundless for thousands of hours without ever making a payment beyond the initial “pay to play” fee and never have a diminished experience like you might in a F2P or Freemium style monetization.

If boundless decided they wanted to give players just one more option to spend a little money in game, and it did not have ANY EFFECT WHAT SO EVER on game play, who can really complain?

Yep, this… games in general I look at as a really great investment for my entertainment money. Generally much less per hour than most popular entertainment out there, and in the case of games like Boundless, pennies per hour - and that is probably even with factoring in GC and rebuying Deluxe now!

And yet, I’m never gonna be able to convince anyone to pay 40€ to play Boundless, at least not until it has all its promised features. Like, the friend with whom I build on Raxxa, I bought him his copy of the game, because he would never have spent that amount of money for an un-finished game which takes years to release the things they promised (let’s be honest, we’re still waiting on a loooong list of things).

Look at how CV does it. It’s F2P, sure, but it also offers a GleamClub-like Pro Account bundle thing which is quite similar, but only 20€. Then there’s the store with the many cosmetic items for your character and the many blocksets. Last time I played, months ago, the game wasn’t well optimized on the most popular public servers, but they’re working on it (and on the free private world each player gets, the experience is smooth as a baby’s bottom). I wouldn’t say it has a ‘diminished experience’ because of the F2P model.
Another big difference is that the devs of CV didn’t made promises they’d take years to achieve. Their playerbase isn’t waiting on them to release anything they promised.

So I still think that Boundless could end-up in a better situation if it went F2P with a steadier stream of things added to the store, or if it also did something like the Pro-account of CV. Like, you can play for free and have all the fun you want on a T1 / T2 world, but you can’t cross portals beyond that until you pay the special account. Some variation of that model, I’d be fine with.

I value everyone’s opinion on what we should or should not do for boundless in the future but when you add that you’re at the point of jumping ship that pretty much turns me off to the rest of whatever you’re saying. The peoples opinion that I value the most of the ones that are in it for the duration for better or worse. These are the people that have not only invested their money and their time but also their heart to this game which means they stick by boundless and not just go to a quote unquote Greener pasture…
