if you suggest something you should at the very least have thought out how it would work. if not then its not much of a suggestion is it? thats all im trying to ask you to do, make some thoughts about how it could be done, instead of just posting and then expecting the devs to do everything. i dont know if you have noticed, but most times i do general discussions and post 4 or 5 different way it could be done and then see what the best possible solution can be boiled down to. if you want air ships there should also be a specific way you would like them to work wouldnt there?
but yeah, it seems like a waste to try and argue. im sorry if you feel offended cause nothing is meant as personal offense, but just think a bit about it ‘‘how could it work in oort and how could it be made by a 20 man team’’
Not even reading that after the first two lines… Don’t force me to do anything… Now if you please, let’s get back to contributing Oort, or leave this topic alone. You have already spoken your peace.
On the topic of how airships would somehow cause all dungeons to be instantly lootable, dungeons could just be made of unbreakable materials and that would be that.
yeah. if there are airships in the world, I don’t think they should be the main mode of transportation.
I do think they should be more mobile than point-to point warps, though. maybe they could be very expensive, so when you see an airship coming in you’ll be like “WHOA”, instead of “oh, hey, look. another airship.”
mmkay, well what if you just put in a physics system, with lighter-than-air mechanics so you can make a thing float, and then leave it to the player’s imaginations exactly how individual airships work. just… how do you propel an airship? I don’t think thrusters would be a good option for a magic, medieval world. and I’m pretty sure you can’t make a real aerodynamic propellers out of blocks, not to mention how much programming would have to go into it if you could. so, how do you propel your ship?
Oort’s “magic” is more ancient technology rather than magic. And the world isn’t so much medieval as it is kind of relative to a very young Asgard, where it’s just super advanced science. I have a more in depth post about this here.
Glad to see this topic still attracts interest. But in a manner of speaking, Guns of Icarus was in fact one of the inspirations for this idea. Though I never actually had the chance to play GOI.
Hello! I read all of the following, and here’s my input. ‘IF’ personal Airships were made accessible then restrictions would be necessary.
Like:
Certain areas of flight allowed. ex. Places you’ve already traversed, or certain worlds due to different gravities, wind, or whatever would not allow that ship to fly there.
That it might only be able to fly in open areas, and when certain distances to places like temples, or guardians you must turn around, or dismount.
I agree with the idea that it would be super awesome to have airships, but also. Why? You have amazing swinging abilities, and you can already mount animals, and you already know in the future you’ll be able to create flying/floating structures.
The airship is a mighty powerful item. We know that, so if allowed. Definitely put a high tier level on it. You gotta work, for that airship. IT would allow, for easy access to infinite number of places. All those steps, and zig-zagging mountain trips becoming nonexistant.
that all being said. I say “No, for the fact that once obtained higher tiered players would be given such a game hack that would push them to even higher past lower tiers. Gaining easy access to soo much. That the lower tiers would be put on a whole different class to the higher tiers. That one item is just a little much to be given access for personal use. Infinite power. Maybe someday in the long future of “Boundless”, but as of now. Maybe not.”
Thank you, for listening.
And about the restrictions. Other gravity might be something. Like you can only fly with cores that correspond to the world you are in or that are from similar worlds.
But I don’t want to see invisible walls around temples or anything.
I think the greatest risk for using airships that has inexplicably not been mentioned is other players. Specifically, Sky Pirates. A group of grapple hook wielding raiders would provide a great deal of risk to air travel that I think would greatly balance the risk / reward equation of airships.
I’d be in favour of a medium sized airship with unrealistic flying physics/behaviour. Maybe levitation turbines. In any case it should have a helm. Therefore my Char will be known as captain Helmlin, he who sometimes softly wipes the snow of the mountain’s tip (softly wouldn’t be too bad) or parks his ship above the Surface Sea - a kind of superficial sea, which is deep and has miraculous living entities dwelling and bubbling at the sea’s bottom
After all I have no idea how to implement airships with a voxel style into Boundless in comparison to the awesome titans, quite a challenge.
