I’m fairly new to meteor hunting but combat kinda seems to be garbage… I’ll try to be more specific but I kinda hate everything about it - it’s clunky, busy, random, and frustrating as all hell. I specced all the resists and health I could and used some titanium bows and golden fists but on a lvl 1 meteor, the number of elemental stout cuttletrunks was just ridiculous… but then sometimes it’s just regular spitters and stuff.
Is there rhyme or reason to the mobs that spawn in meteors? Should I only use expensive gem bows to farm Oort? Is it even worth it for 4-6 rough oort?
Edit: Everything I said in this post is actually the garbage and my opinions have been changed. See reasoning below, lol. I love this game.
Were you on a T3 planet? You will usually get 9-11 oort per completed meteor.
I’m not sure there’s much rhyme or reason as to how many of what creature we get. I had one meteor that spawned nothing but elite wildstock so I gave up lol
There have been times I was on a high tier group hunt where a meteor spawned so many cuttletrunks at once that we all died (except one or two players).
Brews and bow augments can help with strength, speed, etc. Certain gem bows are better for specific planets on the higher tiers.
For a lvl 1 on a T4, 5-8 is normal.
I’m not 100% sure, but luck might contribute to how much oort you can get(or maybe it is how much extra stuff you can get with the oort).
Hunts are often held by certain guilds & posted on their discord. You will get more drops & oort by going with a large group, to a higher tier planet. However, because of the # of players, you may experience lag issues. Always bring an auto-loot tool on those hunts, if you go.
Some groups will go to lower tier planets. They are able to complete more meteors at a faster rate that way.
You can hunt meteors on T3s also (they may be easier to get started): Merica, Grov, Gyosha, Biitula…
This would be my advice, too. I hunted on Lamblis (T3) for quite some time, even when I got to 50, mostly always using iron fists, though the titanium slingbows also sound good.
And there always seem to be swarms of elemental creatures on T4, so for that reason alone the T3 can be considerably easier, in my opinion.
The combat is different, busy, and maybe takes time to get used to. I agree. As a seasoned player, i still don’t enjoy solo-ing any meteors. I don’t justify it. BUUUT, you can join medium-big meteor hunts and your experience might be different - for the better. To me, it feels like i am in an action movie (lol) - chugging this brew while dodging those cuttles then jumping on a dead friend to quickly revive them only to get rammed by a wildstock - sad ending to the movie (xD). Seriously though, hunts are fun in big groups and you get decent loot out of them. Definitely a maxed out character with advanced slings/food will make it even better.
Edit: You can Join PS discord channel and type !hunter and you’ll get notified of all the hunts. Sorry I am discord-illiterate haha so if someone can provide a link or more specific directions, that’d be appreciated.
I would recommend starting on Cephonex Merika as it has good terrain for moving about and It’s only a tier 3 world, so if you’ve maxed out your armour, you’ll not really be troubled by much. Rewards will be a little less than Circ, but it will be easier so you’ll accrue oort quicker overall.
I always found mericka was easy to hunt for a T3 that’s where I used to always hunt once I started hunting. More flat desert and areas and less lava around.
@Lesioui invited me to hunt with a group, gave me a tool to harvest and grapple and completely changed my mind about the combat in this game. I had a blast and loved every bit of it. I take back everything I said, lol. Hunting is so much fun.
I was on that same hunt tonight…it was a blast, I love group hunts so much more than solo! I only hunted solo for a long time, then one night I decided to try the group hunt in Sasquatchville, that was it for me, absolutely love running around with everyone and the amount of loot really gave me traction in my forging endeavors.
