More to it
It’s not hard to be nice to people in-game. I’ve also given tons of free stuff to new players I met like coins, blocks, forged tools and grapples. When you have stuff to spare, it’s easy to be generous.
I’m sure Krasniy is a decent-enough guy with his friends, but if you annoy him, then the mask falls, and the pretty terrible threats and insults follow in private.
I mean, look, I know I can be annoying on the forum with the way I argue and hammer-down my opinions and such. But if someone angers me during an argument on this forum, I’m not gonna go in-game to build the equivalent of a giant dark glass cr@p on that person’s front-door, even though, technically, there is no rule against that. But common sense and decency tells you to ask first if the neighbor is fine with it. Kinda same logic as when you sit next to someone in a theater while there’s a ton of empty seats around, you’re going to ask first, or sit elsewhere.
Big-K didn’t have that restraint.
And when asked about his dark glass ‘monolith’ he built merely 3 hours after our argument ended, he kept saying to everybody “I didn’t know I built it next to your place” (even though I was sharing a lot of pictures of my place on the forum) and started to say “I chose the location using RNG” (hours after I made a post where, among other things, I explained what RNG was).
Later, he admitted privately to me that it was all a lie, that it was done to annoy me, and after talking with others, I realised these monoliths were often built near people he wanted to mess with, because he could, because he knew how to play with the rules. He knew the devs couldn’t do anything against him, short of adding a “have common sense and don’t be a douche” rule.
At the end of the day, I was the one who had to grovel at his feet for him to remove his thing, having to abid to his terms by deleting forum posts and such, and in November 2019, I had to act all happy when I saw him write a “joint statement” where he painted himself as a ‘defender of the weak’, carefully avoiding to mention any malicious intent on his part, making me look like an entitled a-hole. A lot of people fell for it, too, saying “good to see this resolved” and such.
I personally couldn’t find anything nice to write while being honest at the time, as I knew he really wrote it to cover his own butt.
Days passed until I asked if he needed help to move his thing, and he basically told me that because I never ‘signed’ the joint-statement, that gave him right to leave his monolith next to my place.
So I was left to explain to my friends how despite my best efforts, we still had half his monolith outside our windows, taunting us, preventing our expansion, saying “I’m sure he’ll remove it sooner or later”.
It’s only because one of his friends (never got confirmation if it was RISCx or someone else) came to grief me (with the obvious give-away of using the exact same blocks/colors as Krasniy) in a not-ok way that James intervened and solved the issue for me in December 2019 by removing the monolith too.
Big-K and I despised one another, but he kept acting publicly like we were friends, replied to my posts like “ah my friend Goblinounours” and such.
Then I started to hear about ALL THE STUFF he did to other people, all the settlements he disbanded by being a total douche, and how he had some mixture of a cemetery and a trophy-room for the people he drove out of Biitula with little signs saying stuff like “may X rot in hell” and such.
What sort of “nice guy” does that?
Had I decided to go down and move my build elsewhere because of his monolith, he might’ve made a sign to mock me too.
When we realised how many bad stories we had on our hands about him, we actually banded together to show everything to the devs with screenshots and all. From what I gathered, James then saw how Krasniy was abusing the compactness rule on Biitula and removed a ton of his plots, which made Krasniy mad, and I’m guessing he said some pretty bad racist things and got banned for it. But that part is hard to say, as it happened behind closed-doors.
Like Georgegroeg mentioned, there is such a thing as a healthy bit of conflict. I wouldn’t say what some of us had with Krasniy was healthy, but it was a fight we wanted to see through to the end.
Though if there was some level of malaise, it’s only because the game got its last bit of content update about 5 months after Krasniy was banned, and there had been prior signs that this was a likely outcome.
During these 5 months, I personally felt some level of peace and was allowed to expand my build further.
I might be wrong, but the compactness rule still requires a dev to render judgement on your chonky butt, right? So if they’re too busy with another game or elected that it’s better to ignore it for now as it’s not smart to ban the few remaining players, I might see why this is happening.
Speaking of plots…
< clears throat >
You remember those detailed requests for plots I made you last November?
The ones that I need to continue building that tower?
