Footfall is far from busted… people don’t understand what money is… :stuck_out_tongue:

1k coins per day is meager chump change, not even enough to pay for your portal costs

Idk where people got this idea from, but its very very misinformed.

You can go mine 5 diamonds and make 3x as much money as that. Mining or owning a shop (or both) is the best income source. But time consuming, as it should be

What makes you think this?

That’s silly. Most gamers don’t visit forums at all.

I am just saying. You can pay money to get plots. You can use a large amount of plots to plant beacons in high traffic areas and get high footfall. High footfall generates coin and coin can be used to buy pretty much anything else. I only gave an example of how much footfall I make and there should be pretty much zero traffic where I am. In a way, you can pay to win this game.

The boxes look VERY similar to overwatch lootboxes and since overwatch is a very popular game it is very recognizable =/ I actually have a friend who i know would love this game but he refuses to play because of this exact reason. he saw the boxes and went “Oh pay to win! nope I wont play!” sad sad. hope they change this

I think your missing the heart of the issue of the anti pay to win feelings.

Someone owning more land than you or having more coin than you has very little effect on your game experience. There are a lot of ways to work around it by just playing the game and not paying real money.

Its when you can not work around it by just playing the game that it becomes unfair.

I bought the game on steam release and then got a month of gleam club and i have not payed a dime since and i have over 600 plots with 4 characters probably over 700.

people who hear play to win and cringe are people who have played games where players who dont use microtransactions can not compete with the players that do.

This is not the case here, and the reward boxes looking so similar to the loot boxes in a game that the loot boxes are primarely recieved by paying real money hurts the games reputation.

over watch loot box…

boundless reward box…

The worst part is the animations are almost identicle

The game’s cost is 40$
If you are not checking available source of information before spending this, you
are not a gamer, your are a fortunate tourist.

You still have to invest the time and gain prestige. Yes you mentioned simple builds can get you prestige but that’s not the vast majority of people. 1000 coin a day is nothing, I have 6 Portals of various size at my main settlement and that barely covers the costs if not at all. You’re not wrong about location but try building up a huge place and then see how much footfall you actually get (probably a significant amount more) but mining, crafting, gathering can make you SO much more.

That doesn’t prove the average person is ever going to look on the official forums of a game though.

Maybe you would, but the average person? I’m not seeing that.

If 1% of even avid gamers check forums I’d be shocked.

I am aware of that, I am just saying that I can see the pay to win argument based on footfall alone.

In my opinion, you cannot really pay to win in a game that has no winning anyway, but meh…

I agree somewhat, but the amount of time needed to build something worth the prestige is still time consuming

As someone who despises micro transactions in general, I agree, nothing in this game is pay to win, as there’s nothing to “win”, and you don’t have to buy anything. Any “win” state in this game is purely in the mind of the individual.

Pay for convenience? Sure. This is one of the VERY FEW games I’ve ever been ok with (and dropped a lot of cash) micros.

Much like the term RPG and MMO (in the eyes of an old dude, mind you), P2W is being used incorrectly by some folks these days.

insert argument about there being a leaderboard therefore a “win exists”

i totally agree tho,
nothing to win in this game -> therefore saying it’s pay2win is a bit ridonkeylous.

…what even?

Everything unlockable in Overwatch is cosmetic.

Everything.

“Pay to win” doesn’t exist in Overwatch, so I’m failing to understand the comparison.

It’s inaccurate and accurate. If they made it so you could claim chunks overtop of players claimed chunks so that it was layered it would be entirely inaccurate. However because players can box you in and you can’t go over them, its 50/50.

Yes maybe you’re right.
If this is the case, Boundless community can’t do much about it.

By being unclear about the cubits. And by not following the « Minecraft clone path» we should not expect much success. I still don’t understand why Wonderstruck changed their initial plan and followed the fanboys.

And here is my crystal ball prediction: A growth of population with new updates will never happen, it will barely keep the current players numbers afloat. The arsh reality is this game is way too much convoluted and bring too much conflicts for the masses. People just want fun and affordable gameplay. Not a second job on « Eve-online-with-blocks »

I think there is tons of great feedback in this thread, and it seems most people here feel as though the current system doesn’t achieve a winning state in the game.(I think Graybeard said it perfectly.) In my opinion adding cosmetic layers to the game that can be purchased are a fantastic way for a game’s players to help support what they do. I think the big problem that most people have is they play games that offer competitive advantages from buying loot crates. Examples given battlefield call of duty and madden. Where as every MOBA or last man standing games like Smite, or Fortnite do not offer any competitive advantages to purchasing in game currency to change the appearance of the toon. I fully support cosmetic based micro transactions, and until everyone spreads the knowledge that there are two different kinds we will keep facing these issues. So if you meet someone who doesn’t understand the difference try and share examples of the differences so everyone e can know the difference. I am long winded sorry everyone.

Perception is reality. If people are perceiving that the boxes are ‘loot boxes,’ then it’s best to change the cosmetics of it. We could stand on principle that others are wrong, that they aren’t, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t further our cause.

It might even help if one of those hint boxes popped up that said “Rewards are not random. This game does NOT utalize a lootbox system. Any similarities are purely cosmetic.”

It’s not a full solution, but it would help.
