Being Able to Change Skill Sheet in Beacons You Own and Have Permissions To

I’m fine if they allow changes in beacons you have permission to. I don’t agree with removing a timer.

What are you doing that you need to change skillsets so frequently while building?

I feel like this is just a talking point. Can you help me to understand? Especially for an established player, in building you need so many skills that you can’t have a building skill page?

I see OP’s point.

While I’m not sure what the original purpose was behind the cool down timer (I fail to see how switching could be considered “abuse” in any way) I simply use the free warp home, switch pages or alts, then do what I need to do.

I think it would be nice if some of the major skills would be a permanent upgrade once you reach a specific level - as several of us have mentioned before. Skills like the jump bonus, agility, open portal, luck, etc. That would free up 5-15 needed skill point spaces for players to complete a character.

Of course I need the jump bonus, speed, etc on my hunter, but I have to leave those off right now. I need defense/protection, speed, luck, tool bonuses, etc for my gatherer, but I have to leave some off with the 100 point limit.

Sometimes I want max block placement speed - when building walls - sometimes I want it off - when doing detail work or sky building.

Same for block placement distance - I don’t always want that on.

I also don’t usually have harvester on, so if I place a plant wrong I need to switch skill pages.

I also find double jump, light source and resist fall damage helpful situationally when building.

I’d say it’s more of a “not enough points per character” issue tbh

The one thing that bothers me is the skill page changes. I don’t understand why it needs to be a thing. It just forces me to switch characters and pages. I’m almost at 150 total points across two characters and it’s frustrating to have to switch characters back and forth.

At minimum I would want a few more points per page. It annoys me not being able to make hunting things on a single page…

I’m struggling to understand the “abuse.” The examples describe a more rewarding gameplay experience than we have currently. I don’t think we’d try to “get around” skill sets if they were not frustrating.

Specialised skill sets are a staple in many games to allow end-game players to create builds that feel like an achievement for their grind. In Boundless, it’s a limiting factor that make all character builds feel underwhelming.

A year ago I collected many of the ideas from the community into the post Character Progression Suggestions. There are some excellent ideas - it’s well worth the read.

A “reboot” of character progression would (in my opinion) make the biggest impact on day to day enjoyment of boundless… perhaps even more than a new scary thing to fight

I hate that you have to have an epic to use Precise Tools. I feel that if it says Precise, it should do its job without an epic. I have a balanced sheet that I have to constantly switch between a miner sheet. The miner has the stamina and reach I need. But the balanced has the Precise I need. I can’t add the Precise Epic to my miner cause in order for it to work properly I had to max it out. Everything there is important. I could take away a few points here and there that aren’t necessary but they only equal like 3 or 4 points. That’s why months ago I suggested to increase the Skill Point Cap. And I don’t understand why we need the Precise Epic?

I guess i’m confused as to why while building you need to switch skill pages? One page can more than hold anything you would need for building, my building page is also my “shop keep”, “brewcrafter”, and portal opener page. Granted I have all five pages now, but even when I only had 2 my gatherer (movement + dmg + stealth) was also my builder and shopkeep. so :man_shrugging:

I need another skill sheet if I am going to make a builder page. I have an All-Around Page, Tank Page, Crafter Page, Miner Page, and Gatherer/Road Runner Hunter Page. I need more skill pages. OR increase the max Skill Point Limit to 110 or 120.

I have 474 skill points with 5 maxed out pages. A total of 974 skill points.

I wouldn’t object to more pages or a slightly higher point limit.

Skillsets are there to provide people specialization for their characters so that a character does not completely max out in skills on a single page. The Devs did not want a character to “do everything” with Max skills in one page. They did compromise with the community to allow for skillset pages.

The abuse is not changing of the pages but instantly flipping back and forth across them without any delay. That is seen as abuse because your character is able to do everything instantly and it goes against how skill set pages were designed.

People need to have either “specialized” Alts or deal with the limitations around skill set page flips because that is what the Devs felt was the best balance for how people handle things. Unless they decide to revisit allowing a character to have all skills in 1 page we should respect WHY the delay is there and how the delay protects the separation of skills.

Now if “more pages” are needed then I am fine with them giving more to each person if that helps.

Many people just choose to use Alts for the simple things like building since it isn’t too hard to rank up for those points.

You have access to another 45 skill pages in the form of additional character slots as well.

Adding a delay doesn’t prevent people from using their other skill pages. It simply adds an unnecessary annoyance. The devs decided to remove the delay for players that are in their home beacon = huge QoL update. I switch skill pages constantly - I am not abusing anything by doing so. Since I cannot make a fully skilled character (which needs 115-125 skill points imo), I am forced to switch when I need to do something basic like create a portal. There is no room for that on my main, my builder, etc.

:thinking:I think you are applying the term “abuse” a bit much. I also don’t think anyone is disrespecting the devs by making suggestions :woman_shrugging:

Players are asking for some skills to be moved off of skill pages & added to their character/account overall…like light…I can’t mass craft light or light a hopper to death…how is using that skill “abuse”? How does one abuse opening a portal or jump? I can’t specialize in “jump”.

If there were 5000 active players in the game, on average, then it probably wouldn’t be that big of a deal. There are times that a player may be the only one on their planet - they have to be able to “do it all” or they can’t play. No one is going to sit there and wait for hours for other people to sign in so that they can craft silver bars or keeeel wildstock — they have to be able to do it. Once more people are playing, there will be more specialized hunters, merchants, crafters, etc that can share their skills/wares with other players  Until then…

What about the people who play solo and don’t rely on others? Like me. It is only me and LuckyLotus who builds our base. And we don’t do anything instantaneously. We have to wait 5 hours for some crafts. I don’t believe it is abuse to switch skill pages without alts ONLY in Beacons you own and have Permissions to. IT WOULD BE ABUSE IF YOU CAN SWITCH YOUR PAGE ANYWHERE YOU WANT. I am not suggesting the latter. All players do not have PERMISSIONS to EVERY BEACON.

And he agrees, afaik

That is EXACTLY WHAT I’VE BEEN SAYING! Lol :joy::joy::joy:

Thx for the notify. :joy::joy::joy::stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::blue_heart::blue_heart::blue_heart:

The thread just derailed a bit when the conversation included the idea about simply removing the timers altogether

Yeah. I need to make a poll. How do you do that?
