I’m struggling to understand the “abuse.” The examples describe a more rewarding gameplay experience than we have currently. I don’t think we’d try to “get around” skill sets if they were not frustrating.
Specialised skill sets are a staple in many games to allow end-game players to create builds that feel like an achievement for their grind. In Boundless, it’s a limiting factor that make all character builds feel underwhelming.
A year ago I collected many of the ideas from the community into the post Character Progression Suggestions. There are some excellent ideas - it’s well worth the read.
A “reboot” of character progression would (in my opinion) make the biggest impact on day to day enjoyment of boundless… perhaps even more than a new scary thing to fight
