I started when it was released for PS4, learned a lot of things along the way, built a lot of bases, and learned the core system of this game. I finally started getting used to it and got comfortable with the certain requirements. I was happy to see a lot of changes on update 199, BUT what is the reason of increasing material requirements for crafting? Or even adding another material into that requirement? What’s your intent here? Like you want your player base to spend even an extra 2-3 hours into farming that material to even make one thing? I don’t wanna be naive or rude, but I’m trying to understand the benefits of increasing material requirements for certain recipes. Why? It never makes sense to me, if you’re gonna increase the amount of materials required, then at least bump up the amount you craft. This game is called “Boundless”, but it doesn’t feel like it. There’s so many strict requirements and bounds as to what you want to do. If you wanna craft, you need a whole freaking skill tree to craft everything you can craft in this game. You wanna hunt? You have to level up to like level 40 before you even get to T-6 planets to get ALL the necessary required skills to be a fully certified hunter. You wanna chisel one or two blocks on your base to make it look neat? Spend 5 freaking skill points just for a small thing. What is everybody’s thought on how Skill Trees & Crafting & Recipe material costs are? I’m not completely 100% satisfied with it. We are forced to having to play a skill tree that really does’t appeal to us, to even do what we really need to do. I’ve never played a game that required me to play skills that I don’t like to enjoy the game. Oh and also to mention we have to make alts to make dedicated crafters, hunters, farmers and so forth. I was forced to have to do that because i needed some skill points for important stuff like environmental protection.
Are you dissatisfied that you have to level up to reach end-game content…?
No… you completely missed my point.
I can tell this is going to be an amazing thread
Could you break up your argument into paragraphs and make a more concise overall statement then?
edit
It’s a wall of text, and if what I quoted isn’t what you really feel, then you need to clarify it for us.
Nah, just gonna delete this thread. None of you are being helpful, you just wanna tear down somebody when you’re not fully understanding where they’re coming from.
I posted here, I’m trying to understand.
Look at my previous posts, I’ve done nothing but help new users in the last month here.
I’m sorry I sounded rude.
I agree that it did sound rude, and am sorry for that. I happen to agree with Cobb, there are a lot of additions added that increase the grind that are superfluous.
Ok, what I’m trying to get across is “Boundless” is not the CORRECT title for this game.
There is SO many bounds in this game. Like for example, “Play any way you want.” Nope, that’s a lie. If you wanna be a hunter, and go to another far away planet, first, level up enough. Once you’ve done that, you can put the skill points in the skills required for you to traverse other far away/dangerous planets. BUT, once you’ve gotten on that planet with certain attribute skills and luck (for extra resource drops from enemies), only to realize YOU NEED MORE skill points to put into other essential skills such as Armor/Health/ or Energy. What I’m trying to get across is some of these places require you to be at end game (Level 50.) to even be on that planet and to efficiently hunt or farm. Let me tell ya something, leveling in this game is a serious grind. Not that its hard or easy, its just time consuming to farm all of those required skill points TO EVEN ENJOY the game. Understand where I’m coming from now?
I know that some of these planets are end game content, but some of them aren’t. Such as Serpensarindi, and the Mighty Cuttletrunks and Mighty Spitters on Serp are very annoying, forcing me to have to alternate my skills and respec and all that. It’s just annoying.
Most of what a player needs’to craft can be gotten with 5 hours of gameplay on an Alt. But given this is a sandbox MMO, yes, it wasn’t designed to be completed with one character, you’re right.
The devs goals I think is that people who enjoy huntin’ would only ever hunt, and people that enjoy buildin’ would find a guild to build with. Hunters can sell their drops at request baskets and use that money to buy new tools’n level up even more. Same with gatherers.
Yes, as an MMO, they want diversification and don’t want one character bein’ able to do anythin’.
What do you think would be a better alternative? It sounds like you may want just a creative mode? Private servers are comin’ eventually.
Would having a larger variety of creatures to hunt on lower end worlds help alleviate this feeling ?
Even a larger selection of creatures overall that is ?
If the case is that there’s simply just no variety then I agree, atleast when it comes to lower end planets - I don’t feel like that one should be able to get to the highest tiers necessarily from at a lower level standpoint, but increasing the things and possibilities for dedicated hunters should certainly be a thing.
The fact that this game can’t be fully played by one character, is probably one way of putting what I’m describing. I hate that you have to alternate between several characters to efficiently play this game.
Some items increase the output though. Like Brick mixtures given 4 instead of 2 bricks. (Or so I was told, haven’t checked myself)
I can only assume they are giving items more utilities at the same time they are releasing a balance to offset the new cost. However these number may change base on feedback from everyone, I personally think this is a step in the right direction. We had the same issue with iron hammer for example adding sackcloth, it was met with some negative feedback but now with the over abundance of fibrous leaves I never find it to be an issue.
Curiously, is this your first MMO? Have you played other MMO’s with character classes? Did that bother you?
If this were more like Minecraft, a jack of all trades character, I could understand, but with MMO’s it’s almost always this way, certain classes excel at certain things.
When private servers release, you may find someone who can let you in, and enjoy the game in a more creative-type way.
Well, that would be a nice addition to add more variety of enemies and wildlife. I don’t need to hunt on the lower end worlds tho, I need to get to the higher end worlds but I cant, because I’m required to get to a certain level to get the right amount of skills to even survive on that planet. I’m not trying to get to a very high end world, just like one or two steps up from where I currently am. It makes it easier to level up since the exp bump from each tier is exponential.

I hate creative mode, its so boring. What I think would be a very good alternative for this skill tree setup is to have actual classes. That get benefits for doing that certain trade. You could have the hunter, healer, crafter, builder, herbalist, cook, lumberjack and so forth. I understand diversification, but diversification also brings confusion as well.
Because it could be confusing for the new players to take it all on. What if they started building a nice skill build they liked, only to realize halfway to lv 17, they need to spend money on cleanse points to take some points out to put into another skill they absolutely need? What if that person decided to roll solo? Meaning they wouldn’t ever stroll into town just to talk to people about skills and what they’d need. They’d be stuck on learning it all by themselves. There is also no guide or objectives that help you decide on a solid skill tree for newbies. If it was split into classes, it would be simpler but hey, its not my game. It’s a very difficult topic to discuss either way.
You sounds like only you know how to play the game “correct”.
Whats your level of all your characters ?
Which weapon do you use ?
I have lvl 50 character x 2 / level 40 character x 1
I forged so many rank 350 weapon as daily life.
I build a lot of buildings as well.
I have 12 advance power coils set up for every machines, so many extra to sell.
I had 1m in the game, merlin has even more.
Both of us, we don’t tell people to show their build, and trying to prove they don’t understand the game, and make you looks correct.
Maybe give me your build, so i can “fix” it for you.
Also wuts your highest level characters in the game ?

I know game well, and i can tell you i don’t like to grind that much either.
You get 2 free per level. I have a single character and I constantly move points through out my leveling process. You don’t need to spend money.
