While I’m not advocating for any kind of wipe (and only originally mentioned it as an ongoing forum joke and not something to be taken seriously), what if a wipe was the difference between having the current servers setup being unaffordable and shutting down, or streamlining the server costs to a manageable level so that the servers can stay up?

I think they should At least close few public planets… If its worth shutting Down… I mean they brought 2 eu servers up When there was invaasion of People one weekend.

I think they still pay the price For it.

Sure i know People have stuff there and all but after they released sovereigns i Feel like many players hopped into those and public worlds are now more like whatever.

I personally wasnt ever big fan of sovereigns as it create somewhat unfair situation Where some People can use wallet To get specific stuff.

One game I played and supported in Early Access was Planet Nomads. They implemented a blueprint systems and I loved it. But the game was ultimately a failure, as they poorly managed their budget and ran out of money.
But the blueprint system had its flaws too. It made it possible to put light sources inside trees. Any blueprint placed underground had to be dug out to get to.
Let’s hope that if a blueprint systems is implemented in Boundless, that they do a better job.

I don’t know the answer. Your concept certainly makes sense. Let me keep all my blocks/items (like a reclaim), cubits and plots. I would still hate it but that would take some of the sting out of it.

I’ll just have to wait until James comes out with his announcement.

Except there was already a wipe. The planets from EA with all their builds, etc. were wiped to make way for the new planets.

I agree with @Buugi to a point. Maybe it’s time to wipe the current worlds and put out completely new worlds to give people new places to explore and plot. And doing that, they could put out a set amount of planets that would match their budget for server costs.

I would be in favor of a wipe if it’s necessary to keep the game running.

To be fair everybody knew the Wipe was Coming cause it was early access state.

A wipe is not what keeps people in or out of Boundless. Well, maybe a few, but I suppsoe there are always outliers. This game flings you randomly onto a planet to go out and forge your destiny. It’s our crazy desire to be king of the mountain, center of the universe that makes people think they have to be at THE BEST SPOT.
It’s a building game, build your own best spot and when you get a chance open a portal to the hub you wish you had but someone else already does.

As was already stated

The wipe at launch was known and communicated to the players long before it happened. At this point, the communication from the developers has been that there would not be another wipe, so the fact they said that will be brought up if they did another wipe.

I will not disagree with your point. If the only way to keep the game running was to match the number of planets to the number of players, then a wipe might be the only fair way to reset the planets. The universe is oversized for the number of players and it could come down to keeping the game running or not. It also might come down to needing the universe to be smaller to have any funds needed to continue to develop the game. We shall see.

Wipes are part of developing of any game, to test and re-test progression etc.
Also, last iteration of the EA universe was built on different rules than the launch universe, so obviously it couldn’t stay in that form.

Speaking from a technical perspective … there’s always a way … it just depends if one wants it to happen or not.

So with everyone mentioning wipes. Not that I believe that will happen. But what kind of wipe are we talking about here?

1- Wipe as in, all planets wiped and and everyone keeps there levels and everything you have goes to reclaim?

2- Everything is wiped and you keep your level but don’t get your reclaim?

3- Everything is wiped and everyone starts back at level 1?

For options 2 and 3 sovereigns would also have to be wiped for fair play.

Again I don’t think a wipe would happen and I’m against it. But it seems to be the hot topic.

IF a wipe happened I would assume it would be along 1 but it would just be public worlds.

@ everyone
After EA: “Boundless is a persistent universe.” - James.
With that said…
I can envision a few scenarios where a universe do-over would happen:

  1. The game changes hands.
  2. Something can’t be fixed without it.
  3. There are new mechanics & possibilities they want to add, to take the game to the next level. That the benefit of implementing these features would outweigh the negative of losing some of the current player base forever. (I would hope that they might offer them some type of partial refund or some other compensation - to maintain their integrity/ethics within the gaming community. Whatever behooves them, I suppose.)

In reference to single player universes… that’s been part of their plan since the inception of Boundless, as far as I can tell.

Personally, I think we can see now that the MMO-verse has been the epicenter of everything. Even if people have Sovereigns, most of them have (or want to) connect to the main MMO-verse. Hopefully, they’ll always maintain that in some way.

When I look through the reviews, the complaints, the kudos, I see almost everyone saying: I want to see more players, where are the other players?, I had fun when my friends/family were playing, etc. This tells me players enjoy the MMO part the most. I think Sovereigns have been a big hit, so I assume players really enjoy those too.

They wouldn’t be the 1st game that jumped out of the box without enough servers for the launch, then had too many after the initial rush died down. Perhaps an adjustment to the current Known Worlds is all that is needed, with everything else they have planned, just being added on. If they aren’t able to adjust things, something a little more drastic might be in order, for Boundless to continue into the future.

Maybe things are fine exactly the way they are and this isn’t a problem that needs to be solved. IMO the mechanics of the game are king. 2nd would be content.

I can’t help feel that most of the people that want a wipe are people that don’t play the game any more and have nothing to lose should a wipe occur.

How is the 17k plots that I bought with real money work if this were to happen

I guess this is because there hasn’t been any new content. :woman_shrugging:
That uno card should only be played with good reason or as a last resort.

This is the only one I would accept. Along with all my cubits/plots.

I mean, I wouldn’t accept it … any wipe is a bad wipe.

We have a universe, I’ve setup a life in this universe … if you kill that life, well … why would I stay there?

What’s stopping it happening again?

Was sort of a IF there was a wipe that is the only one I would accept. Any others and I would probably stop playing. I had a great run, owned it since 2014 so I got my monies worth.
