Boundless now self published on Steam

249 includes worlds that can contain different world types. So you can have your house in a lush area, go mining in a coal area, and then go do a meteor in a T3 area without leaving the planet.

This includes walking into zones with different atmosphere protection requirements.

I wonder if this applies to universes on your own server/rig? Or would this also be available for sovereign rentals?

This ^^^^^ Yuck

Why “yuck”?

@majorvex

Well, it really makes the need to explore other planets almost unnecessary other than to go look at builds. (This is a negative for me, but could be a positive for others)

I think the idea behind it is pretty awesome though it feels like you could really have some cool planets and maybe the ability to use more biomes per planet.

The negative part to me really seems like it would detract from having to leave a planet other than that occasion buying of items that may not be on your planet.

I could live with a wipe - especially if it is necessary due to a change that might bring in a huge number of new people, like getting on a subscription service. Fresh start might give me fresh motivation, and maybe there could be two separate universes going even, one being a smaller Legacy one. And as I mentioned before, I would be happy to do a monthly fee though I just worry how many people wouldn’t. My big fear…

Ok, as I said, I’m really trying to stay happy and excited here, hoping for the best. But after pouring over it for awhile here and kept telling myself not to address it, I will do so to get it off my chest.

I totally get it if this is what is needed to be done, and they just can’t keep the public servers up. As I said in the other thread, they could pull the plug outright and they’d still have my lifelong gratitude for Boundless and best wishes for the future.

But if it is the case that this is part of it (I really hope not, but the OP didn’t make it exactly clear here, since funding the servers doesn’t fall under maintaining the game as they’ve always done), I really hope they let us know that part ASAP and our wait isn’t too long. This is still my big worry here, as when I posted that news link. The community is such a huge part of the game for some of us, and if it goes to only private servers and single player, I don’t want to hold onto false hope here for too long, as much as I’m enjoying the feeling of hope and excitement now. It would hurt more then to be told that after waiting more than a few weeks after reading this, rather than going ahead and knowing quickly and getting the disappointment over with and not investing any more into it, since that would be the end here for me, regardless of what other content they might be adding with it. :frowning:

But trying to keep my excitement up and hoping for the best… :crossed_fingers:

It’s about performance most likely.

With 8 tiers of worlds, to have 1 of each would mean 8 worlds on your PC.
With multiple tiers within one planet you can have all packed in 3-4 worlds, making your private universe less-resource hungry (and your PC most likely happy about that too).

8 Worlds to explore versus 3-4 … I’ll take the 8… all day. Imagine if No Man’s Sky did this … oh the riot that would start.

Edit: If this is in reference to single player, I would tuck my tail and leave before playing a single player version of the game as selfish as that sounds.

Boundless would then not be “boundless” to me in the sense that what drew me into the game was meeting new people, running hunts with them, and getting multiple tours of bases, cities and random builds. Without that, might as well call it Boundless Light or Boundless Limited.

At least in the test build, I believe it was possible to deliberately spawn them. I don’t think they ever said if sovereigns would be able to do it.

I believe it was set up so a planet would only have a range of like 3 tiers of world, so you would still end up having several levels of hybrid worlds.

That and the hard drive space.

The feature was specifically designed for single player and I don’t think we know if there was ever an intention to add them to the official universe.

Sigh… going back and reading my posts they sound so negative. I am sorry if I come across as such, I just want the game to succeed, gain players and do well. The community deserves that.

Idk how I missed that after all this time, but it sounds awesome!

As with a server wipe, I’d say there’s no chance they change existing public worlds to add this feature, but they could certainly add the capability of generating multi-tier sovereigns. There would be enough drawbacks to them that they wouldn’t be OP or make normal worlds redundant.

As Boundmore pointed out, it’s most likely about performance. While the concept is sweet and would bring a new flavor to the game, it isn’t meant to be an upgrade to the current tier system.

Indeed, but not everyone owns a beast of a computer.

It is specifically single player private universe feature. Players with different hardware performance can thus choose between size of universe and performance.

I don’t think James would have included the word “excited” if the near future includes a wipe. I’m sure he knows a lot of people here would not consider that exciting.

It could mean all kinds of things. They had talked about a blueprint system and using Lua previously. If they create Boundless 2, they could still maintain the current iteration (as many games do when they progress to a new version). It doesn’t mean they’d throw away or wipe the current version. It could mean a new dev added to the team. A new direction for the game. It could also mean they’ve been working on the content previously mentioned and will add it (the update, Hunter, Titan, melee weapons, T8s, etc). :woman_shrugging:

Agreed. It’s all conjecture at this point. I am very excited about the future.

I always come across as a pedantic know-it-all (still even), so I can’t blame you.

I agree, i don’t think we have to worry about a wipe, i just don’t think i would mind it as much as before if it enabled new things our current worlds don’t have. New planets, or sovs could have it, i just find it really cool and didn’t want such a cool thing to be limited to a single player experience.

And @Redlotus i believe the fact that a world is only so big, even if you had all the resources on one, it’s not likely a high amount or consentration. So you’d have plenty of reasons to move between multiple worlds for stuff. But yeah, it’s likely just a single player feature to make it so weaker computers can run a mini universe that you can still get everything in, i just thought those multiple biomes on a single planet were cool and another feature that is unlike other sandbox games

Did someone say something about pants?

Good to know that they’re keeping you in the loop again.

Try for trousers!

All kidding aside, i would love for some more customization on our avatars outfits, especially some different types of loin cloths, shorts, or something

Nice to see everyone lurks as much as I do. We love you @james!

@majorvex I suppose it depends how you define “exciting” RE: wipe
