@Mayumichi do you track any other stats than the average prices shown at the top? Like total volume and value? Also, would it be possible/simple to add a function that would allow us to download a snapshot of the average prices of all the items at once, like as a spreadsheet?
I should mention this isn’t important at all. I’m just thinking about building a wall street style trading floor with tickers of prices and wanted to come up with some kind of all-encompassing index that appears to represent the economy. It would be meaningless and 100% for fun but for some reason I’m compelled to use real numbers for my nonsensical formula than coming up with totally baseless ones.
This information is not available, and inferring it is a HUGE mistake.
Current APIs provide zero data regarding actual transactions.
People will 100% manipulate this. If you share this data and it comes to be of any common use, falsifying it will have real C value. IMO publicly attempting this would cause actual harm to the economy.
It sounds interesting, and potentially fun. It’s just that people tend to see stuff like that and then lean on it. Since inferred data is easy to falsify, as soon as a few people start pricing against it - things could get wierd.
This would be either in the basement or the 2nd floor of a skyscraper, not like a public place where anyone would go to learn stuff. Purely for looks and I will rarely, if ever, update anything except the “index” which will be nothing more than a mashup of market prices and volume of the [11] items I’m guessing are the most consistent sellers (maybe divided by average daily steam users for the month). It is as meaningless as combining the prices of gold and chicken nuggets.
Data on completed transactions would be the one and only real way to measure the economy and obviously that would be 100x more complicated than tracking current price and volume.
Now I’m wondering, separate from this, if an increase in total volume generally indicates that people are supplying more or buying less…
Oh, ok, literally for decoration. At the mention of spreadsheet exports and stuff I was envisioning something a little more active, lol.
I’m sure it would look cool. If it’s even daily updated it’s probably not going to contribute to the sort of shenanigans I’m talking about. An easy API for the collated data could still be used for mischief but not nearly as much as if someone was pushing out “real-time” info in game or to the forums.
Or add a disclaimer sign saying most likely false
Very true. Maybe if my connected signs idea becomes reality and we can update signs from a remote location then broadcasting actual prices of the big items would be more practical.
And to make more sense of this, I’m asking about downloadable spreadsheets both because I want to make that index and because I would make charts for all available parameters purely for personal enjoyment. Would be cool to add up the averages and totals per industry and the entire economy. Honestly one of those alone could be the index but I’m not trying to manually input every piece of data.
I love Boundless, numbers, and making spreadsheets and I want a reason to combine them .
