I’d suggest you build each biome one at a time. Then once you’re satisfied with them individually, it’s easier to create the world. If you try and do them all together it can become quite difficult to see your changes taking effect.
Sorry, to be clear, I’m hoping not to do all of those biomes myself
(each biome does take a fair bit of time!)
If we can split up the work, we can bring all the biomes that have been built into a single world at the end
Alright, here’s the (very rough) biomes that I’ve got so far:
Open Desert
Sand. Lots of sand.
Rocky Desert
Haven’t touched it much since my previous post
Stone Pillars
This is a take on @Nyuudles’ concept art (the craters area). I’m also experimenting with giving the shrubs a gleam trunk rather than regular wood; might look pretty neat.
Jungle
Two layers of trees, for intense grappling sessions. Also note that not all of the trees are rendering properly. This biome needs a lot of work(make the ground level more interesting)
Combined Biomes
Here’s a shot showcasing all of the biomes w/ a first stab at distribution. Also snuck in a basic mountain biome.
It’s surprisingly hard to do the snow capping, however (substrate could really use a minY option!). Also, I have a suspicion that the trees are actually more dense than this render (when I change unrelated options, like adding more plantations to a different biome - the rendered trees change)
Note that I’ve only done the surface level of things; there’s also caves to figure out, and all the various strata & ore deposits.
And, if you want to follow along, or play around with other ideas; I’m constantly saving my world file to dropbox when working on it.
The only biome I don’t like is the jungle. I’ll play around with the world and maybe we can find a way we both like it
All the other biomes are great gj!
Yeah, not a fan of it either! Please make it awesome ![]()
I’ll try
Does anybody know how to do the valley biome? I’d really like to have that one in this world but I kand figure out how to do the overhangs and stuff
Also my terrain always turns out to look pretty boring
I guess i’ll leave the worldbuilding to someone else
I love how it’s is coming together.
My one suggestion would be to have a couple mountains but with one huge one.
I like the direction this project is going. I’ll be willing to lend a hand once the world is live.
Love what you have so far! I sorta feel like the jungle biome is thematically out of place, especially with the dark ground color. As for caves and smooth biome transition, maybe the devs can do that part?
Edit: also ore distribution, the devs should do that too. Don’t want to go against their economy plan with too much ore or something.
Working off of Nyuules art, this what I’ve got. Needs some work, I won’t get much time till this weekend to do more.
Holy ■■■■ that looks awesome
That mountain is awesome! Doing a nice job with bringing all those biomes together
Man I really love how the voronoi cells break up through the sand - you might want to try putting that noise filter through an interpolation filter to smooth the edges a bit
I don’t know if a river could be done but maybe a river from the mountains would explain the jungle a bit better with the rest being dessert.
@James seems everybody is having issues with tree generation. Is this typical?
check teh gradient area sometiems its set only to spawn on areas with a certaint gradient
Are you and @nevir collaborating on the wb? I’m trying to keep track of who contributes to each part of the project so I can give proper credit when we finish.
Yep
@KKBell is helping too (I think)
