Communication between players

i wouldnt mind a mail system with a mailbox at all, as long as we still have whisper, you just seemed to assume that it shouldnt be ingame from this message

please, dont ever use third party software as a solution for things like these, the more things you can keep ingame the better the game is you know :wink:

Edit: to add to the outgame use of communication, it actually took a good while before they added the basic chat system so we had to use a sort of facebook wall on the game site (before the game became client based) to try and have a conversation, it was horrible xD

What I actually meant is /whisper is of course a much needed feature. There was also a suggestion somewhere in this topic that whisper should not be targeted, but instead be heard by anyone in a very close range of the player speaking (like 5 blocks or something). This is an interesting take on the whisper/private message system in general, it suggests a little RP (actually talking a few steps away to exchange words that are not meant to be heard by others), seems fun!

Yeah it would be great for RP. but it would still leave the game having no long range communication at all. which is where the main problem lies,

also it was not facebook, but the wall kinda reminded of it xD

but i fully agree, if they allow us to send items it should only be picked up through mailbox and it should have a time delay, and even that i think would be a bit of a shame to add, would be much cooler to actually physically have to come get stuff or actually sell stuff to other players face to face.

was a long discussion about sending items in another of my posts, one of the merchant ones.

but on the topic. while i think it sounds cool to have a bird everytime you private message somebody i just think its going to be a bother in the end, saying if you send and receive 50 messages before you are done, then you see the same animation 50 times.

Could you please post a link to this discussion? I was thinking about trading myself (I’ll build a marketplace near my beacon on Cshrime soon), and I wonder what we already know about it and what are others suggestions.

Back on topic: I imagine the animation would be optional, seeing the same thing over and over again without any means of disabling could be irritating indeed.

its a loooong and boring post. but the best system which i narrowed down in a personal post was a person saying that we should just have a box/npc in which we could place the stuff we want to sell and people could buy it from that box, would help if people are on different timezones and can never catch eachother.

A box with loot for sale is exactly what I myself was thinking about! Like some kind of merchant store with a proper shop-front.

also you dont ‘‘choose’’ a dev, you have to ‘‘summon them’’ like this ‘‘Ben i summon thee!’’ kids now a days doesnt even pay proper respect to summoning people anymore… Back when i was kid…

Yep, we plan on adding more granularity to chat features. What we have in right now is obviously very basic, very placeholder.

Thoughts:

  1. We should define rules for:
  • Talking with friends (people who have shared a player token with you) individually or in a group.
  • Talking with non-friends (people who you don’t have a player token for) individually or in a group.
  • Talking with players who are also in your guild individually or in a group.
  • Talking with players who are offline.
  1. Do we want the chat to be permanent (stored permanently) or discarded (delivered then thrown away)?

  2. Do we want to integrate the chat with an external chat service, for example the forum PMs, so that you can “talk” with players who our out of the game but potentially online elsewhere (mobile or desktop)?

  3. Is there any consideration for dealing with spamming, griefing, or abuse?

  4. Is there any special consideration for minors? Do we need protected chat for these players?
