Im not sure how hard this would be to add, but i feel that it would be quite cool if there was a way to get information on creatures ingame and a possible way to do it would be by having “cards” or “maps” or “scribblings” like ARK does when they introduce new dinosaurs.
It could also be something as simple as this just with more lore
The cool part about a system like this is 1) ingame information so people dont have to wiki and 2) more collectibles for those who play games to unlock EVERYTHING.
Would love to see this idea! To help make it an easier mechanic, I would suggest that as you said some form of log book was kept.
Now how this could be done is simply you start with the basics like Minecraft eg map, log book etc. Or you can craft this book in game and then begin your furious quest to fill every page with everything.
Everytime you come across a new animal of course you will be notified and thus a new page is filled in the book(plants could be added as well as titain and temple facts considering lore)
This way if you are a devoted explorer you could sell off your encyclopaedia of knowledge, once filled or start a museum on facts and tips on everything.
Of course this wouldn’t be of much value if a wiki was made implementing everything but if you want your BOUNDLESS adventure to just be exploring then what’s to stop you?
Or collecting everything.
Journal..ish I like it except i think it should be character bound. A problem that arises though with even the main idea of mine is the word “Why?” which is an excellent question and the answer is “Because collectibles!” I think it would also be cool if you got information for killing the creature, for example killing 100 mo’pigs would unlock some information but you could also find that card to unlock it instantly. might even give a bonus.
Yes I understand your view, I was trying to think though of something that didn’t give too many in-game menus, if you know what I mean.
Making it more player based though is much better for the collectables aspect of the idea as it wouldn’t be much if you collected them, then sold them off to some person that couldn’t be bothered, although you could technically make copies of it? Like how blueprints will be in the game?
Gosh I think I’m over complicating this
Just literally saw your edit there now as I posted my comment.
Again that idea would give a great depth to hunting. You could hunt to kill and acquire information to make your prey easier to defeat
I think that would be plain awesome, but a lot of work for the artists maybe, or rather for lore tellers. It is a very beautiful idea, and it would make the game even more appealling.
I like the idea of rather archaic styles like books in the game. Like not a highly evolved technological device like a tablet or something, but real paper or papyrus, crafted together into a book.
One should be able to craft paper and papyrus out of gathered wood. For example - on block timber --> one paper sheet.
The next step would be the feature to be able to note down pictures/drawings/scribbles/or notes onto the paper.
Maybe a book can have up to 10-20 pages. Chaotically arragend notes like in Indiana Jones’ diary. It would not be too practical like a catalogue, but imo have much more charme than a book with predefined empty spaces wich fill up at the given slots as time passes and when you find something in the game.
Again is a wild play of phantasy, and not too sure how to implement and make it interactable. And also don’t know, how it fits to the advanced Oort race. @ben
well I think it would be a good idea after defeating and enemy show a thing like this with some information to know more about them and also look after possible weak points
Good idea. Reminds me of the scanner in Metroid Prime. I loved this a lot. I’m no game designer and also don’t know how time consuming it is to give the creatures a strategic behaviour. My idea would be to be able to “analyze” a dead or defeated animal and be able to note down what could be crafted of their remains.
In subnautica game there’s also a tool, like a scanner and is used to well… that function, scan your enviroment, the animals arround you and says some imformation of them, not that much but at least is something
It always make me think of goggles or visors. Goggles would fit to a Steam Punk setting. Visors to a Sci-Fi setting.
What if the playable races in Oort had different visual senses. Like e.g. human / cat. Bot different capabilities on seeing their environment.
But I’m all in for goggles. Would be cool.
