I was trying to attack a Cattletrunk on a T5 world and couldn’t do any damage. How can I find out what damage types exist for my weapons?
Gem weapons do varying types of damage.
Diamond = blast
Ruby = burn
Emerald = toxic
Amethyst = corrosion
Topaz = shock
Sapphire = chill
If you were not using a gem type weapon you may want to use a better tool IE: silver doesn’t do enough damage to mighty+ enemies because of their armor stat
Okay, thankyou very much! Super helpful!
Also, elemental types are immune to their damage type and resistant to their damage class
Blast= immune to blast and resistant to burn
Toxic= immune to toxic and resistant to corrosion
Shock = immune to shock and resistant to chill
And visa-versa for all other damage types.
I think there may be damage bonuses for opposite damage types, not sure the specifics
I can confirm that there is a damage bonus when using Shock against Corrosive enemies. Dunno how much though.
There is this analysis from a while ago: Elemental Types - Which type to use on each planet
Although the planet names are out of date, I think the percentages might still be accurate? (At least which is vulnerable to what seems the same or very similar.)
So gems define the damage type, what are element shards for then?
Essentially, the same thing. In order to craft a Diamond slingbow you’ll need blast shards which shows you which damage type that diamond slingbow will be doing. Bombs are the same, so in order to craft your topaz bombs you’ll need shock shards, which denotes the type of damage those topaz bombs will do.
You can also use the shards in shielding foods once you’ve crafted them into amalgam, so using a blast amalgam in a shielding food will make that a blast shielding food, increasing your resistance to blast type damage. And although I haven’t tested it yet(no need as the skill points are enough atm) there are atmosphere shielding foods, chili i believe, which will increase your atmosphere protection for X time and by X amount without having to put skillpoints into those resistances.
Edit: spell check
Oh ok that makes more sense. Thanks.
All i can confirm for sure from that thread is that the gems/elements are in pairs, and using an element against its sister element will lead to your attacks being resisted,
so don’t use diamond/ruby against each other, or topaz and sapphire, or emerald and amethyst
