Do Europeans (and other non-Americans, hey AU/NZ) know what Festivus is? Poll

  • I’m non-American and know what Festivus is
  • I’m non-American and don’t know what Festivus is
  • I’m American and know what Festivus is
  • I’m American and don’t know what Festivus is

This is not off topic this is build related

lol i wasn’t even that into the show

It sounds christmassy, Christmas sucks :neutral_face:

Once again this is for a build. Please don’t mark it OT

This was mentioned in that King of Queens TV show wasn’t it? It rings a bell, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

So is it a show? Or just a plain holiday?
Wiki a little confusing.

Festivus was a holiday that appeared on the show. When they asked the writer of the sketch where he came up with the idea he said it was based on his life and things his father did to him.

At some point a lot of people started celebrating the holiday in real life.

According to Wiki, and “MY” interpretation of WIKI, It seems like a holiday for those that oppose the religious and commercial aspects of Christmas. Sounds like it started as a parody but is kinda blooming as a more widely recognized “Holiday” for “Everybody” regardless of any affiliations. Made popular by media.

Edit: It seems like it started as a family and personal holiday for the family of the writer for Seinfeld. But the producers pushed it into the show.

After looking it up, it seems it’s taken on a naughty connotation - veered off from being just an alternative to Christmas - mainly has to do with their “tree” lol

It’s naughty? Howso must google

(play too much boundless when you read “naughty” and think iLLn)

Due to some of these comments I googled it.

The google page has a festivus pole all the way down the side of it

I didn’t find anything naughty but, didn’t read many of the pages either.

I still can’t find anything naughty

@DKPuncherello try a mirror :joy::rofl:

I googled it:

Remember that the Festivus pole is not a stripper pole. Do not defile the sanctity of this holiday by treating it as such. (Although not outlined in the official Festivus guide, it’s an accepted practice to dead-leg and/or Indian burn anyone who does so.)

Ok well first I’m very sad so many people are unaware of the joys of festivus. You guys should watch the Seinfeld (google video result #4 for me: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6pbsc0)

But anyway I guess I’ll scratch my festivus build idea lol.

Same.
I’m german and I knew about it!
