I thought that too so disabled that for a while but still no joy
If you think it is a graphics driver issue, you would want to test going back one version. You may have to uninstall and then install the previous version, but I haven’t needed to do that for a while so I don’t remember.
restart restart restart. bound to work eventually.
did you ever get it to work?
No, not yet unfortunately … I’ve checked the directx drivers which are showing 12 which I think are the latest ones plus I tried what @Huntsman suggested.
When I get some time I’m going to try copying all the files from my laptop version, which still opens, and replace them on my desktop version and see if that makes any difference.
Although the fact that it’s also happening to a couple of other games suggests it’s not the game itself but either something with Steam, Windows or maybe the Graphics drivers. I think it’s going to be a slow painful process of elimination
Just to clarify: You have tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the game correct?
Im not saying it will fix the issue, but until you do and say you have already done it, its going to be one of those things that looms over the issue because “maybe it would have fixed the issue”
oh, yeah never mind that points to something else, I would first try disabling the steam overlay and see if that fixes it.
If you have any software that does overlays like AMD has some software that does that. Discord does it, screeen capture software can do that.
basically any software that messes with other software.
You can also try going into device manager and disabling your sound card if the game launches its a sound driver issue.
When I get home from work I’ll try the overlays, there is the steam one I know of and possibly one for the graphics card … hadn’t thought of the sound card so I’ll give that a go too, thanks
Have you changed anything about your resolution / refresh rate? Maybe check what settings windows is running on and maybe try some different settings. I’ve had games being picky about that stuff before…
Did the other games maybe produce an error when crashing?
Hi @Grimdian, it’s strange because it’s been fine for ages and I haven’t changed a thing since Christmas, that’s when I set it up, completely new system. Literally just at the weekend I logged in as normal and it loaded as normal then when the Sanctum loads it starts to lag for a couple of seconds then as the portal loads it just crashes straight to the desktop screen with no error message. The other two games do the same also with no error message.
Have you checked to see if there was a Windows or graphics driver update around the time it started failing?
Oh, you get to play a little and then it crashes? Could be something is overheating. Maybe try running a tool like hwinfo64 and check if any temperature is spiking. Also, did you check windows’ event viewer for clues?
There was possibly a windows update not long before but the graphics driver update was definitely after the problem started.
No, don’t get to play, character doesn’t even get a chance to move … definitely not a temperature spike as the system is well water cooled and ventilated plus all the leds on the card, cooling and keyboard are set to colour change with the temperature and always stay green.
Unticked the overlays on steam and the Radeon Software, did a restart but still the same thing.
When I go back to relaunch the game it always comes up with a message about Crash dumps found from previous run … does anyone know if it’s possible to see these somehow and if there is likely to be any useful information to try and get to the bottom of this?
Yeah. Info for getting the logs here:
You can open them and look, but if you can’t figure it out, you can share them here via a pastebin link (assuming you don’t see any sensitive info you don’t want to share) and people here can try to help.
I don’t have a great record at actually helping with interpreting these logs, but I’m happy to try!
Thanks @Rydralain, I’ll have a look
Have some information about a new problem. The problem is similar. After loading the sanctum, the portal activates to the place where you were at the last game. if you run to the tunnel where you appeared at the very beginning of the game (so that the portal has no time to open), the game does not crash. what conclusion can be made from this?
@Vadyxa715, my game crashes before my character can even move … the only problem in the past that I have had that required a similar fix was very rarely when a portal wouldn’t complete loading.
FYI, mate, am on a similar setup, apparently, and also getting no startup at all (white window flashes up for a second and then disappears) have you checked your Windows event viewer yet?
