Is that really so?
Before the Luck skill was “Increases the chance of extra drops from Blocks” while now it says “Increases the chance of rarer drops from blocks”.
I assumed this doesn’t work on gems because the gem is not a rare drop but a guaranteed one, same for ore/coal/fossils.
The way it’s described it feels more like it would only work on a rock for example where the guaranteed drop is the rock itself and the rarer drops are flint/olivine fragment/cobalt fragment/opal/rock salt, so luck would only increase the % of those to drop?

I use pfiffel’s http://www.pfiffel.com/bl/drops/ to see what luck level does to different block drops

You need luck pretty much on any skill that gathers resources. Meteor drops also count for luck.
