I am a game loyalist until the day it ends. But Boundless needs an Overhaul!

To be honest, I am not even sure where I should sensibly begin. I have mostly just been gathering seeds for others at this point, because I didn’t really have the resources to pursue farming myself quite yet.

I unfortunately was a gullible noob and bought 1 each of the rarer items, hoping to learn how to use my atlas to track on Exoplanets, all I ended up doing was making myself broke and a bit bummed out, once I realized a) that 15k Exotic earthyam seed isn’t the item you use to track them anyways…, b) The resin and petrolim cubes you saved up to buy 1each of are already mined out of the current Exoplanets. Oops.
At least they look nice on the shelf, but I can’t exactly do anything with just one.

Honestly what I could use most is some more patient vets who want to talk me through some things, and give me input on my humble builds. I can’t figure out how to make combustion kernels work properly for me, for example but I think it’s cause of how I had them laid out.
The forums are a great resource, but sometimes it’s better to have a few friends on hand to ask.

Thank you for continuing to show me what a friendly, welcoming community this is!

Although I don’t have any of the exotic earthyam seeds myself, have plenty of goo seeds, could get you 50 resin or more if needed, and I get various others seeds fairly regularly, just let me know! Now, I’m not great on the knowledge front I admit, as far as the builds, but we really have some WONDERFUL people here on that, people who will go so far above and beyond to help us all with the builds and knowledge of new systems… and if you haven’t seen them yet, I’d point you to Jiivita’s excellent tutorial videos, tons of good info here, both on the farming and skill stuff - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbgPVhSPrlQI7N4KwFptZzw

We are happy to have you here, and this really is such a great community!

Actually it can be used to track the crops in the wild. The catch here on this specific item is that they only spawn on tier 4 lush worlds of which there is only one permanent planet of that type and tier currently.

As for the other stuff if you are around this weekend I can travel with you to an exo if we have any up and show you where the petrolim is hiding. There was still a ton on the AUS t7 as of last night.

Resin is the one where if you’re late to the party you may not get any

Here are some of my ideas and they are in no particular order. Sitting here on the car line waiting to pick up my grandson from elementary school!

  1. The ability to repair all coils attached to one machine at the same time would be a wonderful quality of life Improvement

  2. Furniture at all sorts of decorations for both indoors and Outdoors!

  3. Public transportation that is automatic. Trains on tracks but automatically go from train station to train station. I do not mean mine carts or anything like that I mean real honest-to-god trains but you can stand in or sit in. I suppose you could also have transportation cars that have supplies on them you could take from Station to Station. Heck maybe even a train car that is able to be a store when it stopped into the stations that people can buy products from.

  4. Blueprints! Blueprints could definitely solve a lot of problems in this game. If you want to move your city or your town you can! Imagine how many problems could be avoided if somebody could just say you know what I’m going to move. These Blueprints must include the ability for all supplies in machines and in the storage boxes to be moved with the build.

  5. A second type of blueprint that could be cloned and sold to other people. Clearly it would not contain all the supplies in the boxes or are in the machines. There would be a complete industry of people trying to sell useful things for people workshops or maybe even a lighthouse you never know right!

  6. We need more life! More monsters Maybe or Here’s a thought how about the ability to have a I control animals that would only roam your build and could not be killed. It’s kind of strange to have all this land and all these wonderful buildings and there’s no people or animals in them. Maybe some purchasable NPCs that could just sort of live in your property.

  7. Lights that go on at dusk and off at dawn.

  8. The ability to upload pictures into a picture frame or something similar so we can have her own logos Etc or decorations on our walls

  9. Give those of us with communities that are part of bigger cities an opportunity to have our name become with the context of District. What I mean by this is say Detroit Michigan as an example. You could say your town is called st. Clair Shores but it’s part of Detroit so allow the name to be St Clair Shores District of Detroit. That way you retain your name but acknowledge the fact that you’re part of a larger town.

  10. Give people reasons to want to be part of a larger town. Many players play solo and that’s fine I’m almost that way myself. But make a reason for us to work together even if we work independently of each other but to be part of the same town and community. Give us a reason. I think part of the problem is that number nine is if you get absorbed and that’s the end of your name. So if you basically do a combination of number 9 and number 10 maybe that would be a positive thing.

  11. Revamp portal costs. Sometimes it’s just too expensive to go even one or two planets away from your Homeworld with permanent portals.

  12. Planets! Rental planets and public planets!

Well is it just some things I was bouncing around here while I’m waiting in this line. I hope that some of them will be valuable for the Developers. Thanks for reading my long crazy post

Back to the original overhaul topic; what bothers me most is the terrible communications option with other players. Currently I have to use the onscreen keyboard and laboriously type in anything I want to say to another player. Most times i don’t bother talking to others because it going to take time to type the message. Didn’t minecraft have an in game comm with a headphone? May this is more difficult because boundless uses more platforms. I don’t know but i do know communication sucks. Just my thought. Love the game anyway. And btw i am not a snob for not talking to u, just not interested in a ten minute conversation.

I love the game but would certainly like to see some things improved. I agree with the comments that the mobs and creatures need an overhaul, their behaviour is very predictable and there is a lack of diversity in creatures currently. I’m hoping some of that is addressed with the addition of the hunter and eventually titans. Even the addition of some static creatures that can’t be killed such as those pesky tweeting birds that I can’t seem to find!!. I also find it funny that the current creatures are BFF’s, be kind of fun to watch a cuttle trunk levitate a hopper and drop it on a spitter!!. I’d pay admission to see that!!. The other thing I find lacking is ocean/lake life. Getting kind of lonely swimming some times. Not sure I want something to chomp my face off, but some marine life to add to the beautiful scenery of this game would certainly add.

Agreed - that’s why I said a marriage of the two. Portal Knights isn’t very sandboxy. Boundless’s portals and beacons and etc are way cool - definitely better than Portal Knights.

But there’s things to be learned from what other games do well, too. And as I said (and no one refuted) - Portal Knights combat mechanics are significantly better than Boundless’s

I would prefer to see it go the direction of Creativerse / Trove. Open worlds, portals, creatures, costumes & armor, tons of blocks, tons of things to do

Never played either of those - Trove is Korean MMO levels of pure grind from what I hear, and Creativerse looks like shoddy Minecraft, but I could be wrong :man_shrugging:

Sandbox does not have to mean no direction, however. I have never understood why people want to make an argument for putting less content in a game?

Sandbox means FREEDOM of direction. We can choose where we go, what we do, and what order. But we still need things to DO…

Edited to hide some of my answer bc I love playing BL & I'm not trying to promote other games

Trove is an amazing game & you do what you want to. If you want to go off on your own world and do nothing but build with a zillion blocks, you can. If you want to fight creatures in dungeons you can. Fly on a dragon. Etc. Great game, I can’t knock it at all.

Creativerse is by Microsoft, if I’m not mistaken. It’s nothing like MC. You can also go off and do nothing but build, go fight creatures, portals, etc.

There are plenty of old school MMORPGs that have a bunch of direction, quests, etc. It gets boring when there are no new jobs, NPCs, quests, etc.

Sandbox means do whatever you want to do. You don’t need people guiding you and telling you what/when/where to do.

I totally agree that BL needs way more things to do, more content, mini game stuff, dungeons, creatures, weapons, etc lol lots more. After they get the big fundamental stuff out of the way, maybe they’ll start working on other things like that.

There is a chat system, where you don’t have to type, I’m pretty sure, but don’t know anything about it, I prefer to type it in.

But do understand the frustrations of communications,

I maybe get the idea you thought I was saying something different than I ever was - but this right here is all that I am saying.

By direction I didn’t mean any kind of ‘forced main quest’ or something like that, that doesn’t fit Boundless.

But content gives direction on its own - challenges to overcome, enemies to defeat, gear to loot/craft, pants for wearing, etc!

If there were Oortian Artifacts that were randomly spawned on planets that led you to an optional side quest like experience where you were collecting other artifacts to complete a translation or a picture which then gave you a vanity art item or unlocked a part of an ancient language, those type of quest mechanics would be most welcome and engaging in Boundless

This would be wonderful :+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1::+1:

Would be awesome if it even tied into Titans later, you needed to learn Oortian words (maybe No Mans Sky style?) To use at ancient consoles to unlock doors and engage defenses, or maybe sometimes you’d find an Oortian Dungeon key which would let you go to a randomly generated mini world that you could fight/puzzle through?

Just thoughts. @james - we love you. Make it so!

I’d love to see some fish in the waters. Not anything dangerous, with as much swimming as we have to do that we do Not need; which brings up another one that would be nice and old and new players would like. Can’t we Please swim faster and hold our breathe longer? We spend more time it seems in the water than on land.

I’d like to see fish and we can use the foliage to make nets to catch them with, that would be useful. Oh, sounds good, fish for supper tonight, maybe I can talk hubby into fixing fish, Salmon, yeah, sounds good.

Okay, back on topic, I’d like to see more critters that would be a big plus, even if we can’t hunt them, to see birds flying in the sky would be nice.

Devs, take a day off work, go to youtube and watch some different MMO games, see what they have in them, what is loved about them.

There are a lot of features in NO MANS SKY that would compliment this game. Would love to see the photo mode in this game!!. Also coin bonus is for exploration and discovery!! (Minus the “Units received!”) lol

Agreed! And we can skip “Weather Warning: Incoming Storm” please.

We’d be hearing that all the time in some planets.

More on topic, something that could do with some tweaking is the gem tier. Refined gems are inconsistent with the rest of refined materials, such as the metals and the lucent materials. They are not blocks for some reason… :stuck_out_tongue:

More seriously, the fact that flexibility for gem tools is not consistent is somewhat odd; I understand why it might be that way, but don’t think it really adds any depth to the tier.

And then flexibility for gem tools is inconsistent with gem chisels too, which are all consistently 100 regardless of gem type they are, as far as I can tell. Why aren’t all gem tools, chisels included, just 80 or 75 flex then?

All lucent tools are flexibility 10 I believe, regardless of being rift, umbris or blink… They are newer, so it is rightly so that they should be consistent.

What could really do with some sort of overhaul is indeed the forging system as others have mentioned a bit; I think the system is working, though it does get frustrating at times – but there are so many components, and some of them surely have niche uses, the devs will know whether they do or not, having the statistics… I certainly don’t use even half of them though. The forge is one of those things in games that seems to create a meta-game around itself.

But surely some forge material consolidation can be done? Especially on the level of gums and pastes, I think. A lot of it could just be selected inside the actual forge using a paste or gum base + the appropriate amounts of vigour/stability instead or something. It just seems like a bloated area of crafting. :man_shrugging:

Could also be a better way to display/process fresh vital essence; the extractor itself is just bloated with so many recipes, come to think of it.

This I’ve always talked about. It also helps relieve some of the intense future grinding one leaves over.

i sadly don’t know if that’s possible tho not without a big ideology change i brought up a similar thing in another thread saying the game needed quests and lore and it came down too “unless its player made it cant be in the game”

so as it stands right now unless we can convince the devs to break that rule we cant sadly never have any questing, no npcs or lore/story. the tutorial would have to run off the “Journal system”
