Independent players punished by meteors

Just curious as to the logic behind why independent players lose a meteor the moment they die in comparison to a group of players that just need one person to dig in and stay out of harm’s way while everyone else can die as often as they want and just keep coming back and all get a share of the loot.
Surely for it to be fair if you’re on a hunt and you die you then lose out on the meteor regardless of how many of you there are.
Group hunts already have the benefit of being able to summon higher level meteors which in turn means much better loot but the current system means that no matter how bad they are and how many times they die so long as that one person stays dug in they can never lose.
Not everyone has the opportunity to go on group hunts so it seems like the underlying message here is predominantly independent players are not particularly welcome.

Somewhat agree, I don’t think it so much as unwelcome but a attempt to push players to join up and be part of a group. But some players aren’t the type to play with others. My son is social phobic borderline agoraphobia (for those who don’t know what that is, afraid to leave the house). He won’t talk to people unless forced to and then it stresses him out.
In games, he generally doesn’t interact unless they come up to talk to him, he will say a few things, if asked for info give it then walk away. So, he won’t join in a hunt unless I am with him and suggest we go, I’m a social person, love chatting with people. But on hunts, there isn’t chatting with each other, just running to portals and fighting.
I think solo or two-four players should have the chance to return to the meteorite and have the three chances and you are out. He has died trying to protect me and I have accidently stepped out of the area and we lose the meteorite. Not fair, in my opinion. He was once hit by a mighty goat and knocked off a hill and was out of the area, not his fault. And I was coming back from dying and we lost the meteorite. Big disappointment for both of us.
Should be something for smaller groups, say four or less that you get at least two deaths each before you lose the meteorite, but three strikes and you are out I think would be more fair…

You just have to hunt them on a lower tier planet. Tier 3 is child’s play. T5 is easy with a decent fighter set up. I kind of understand where you are coming from, but I like the fact that hunting is largely a group activity. It also stands to reason that working as a team has certain cooperative benefits.

Also, never used revive brew myself, but it might work to keep from losing the meteor.

I’m generally not the most sociable person but for me I don’t really get the chance to go on them simply because my free time to play is very erratic and on top of that even when I’m on I often have to go AFK every once in a while because of real life things going on around me.

My son can handle a Tier 5 by himself, but with me, we don’t go after meteorites on any planet that is higher than Tier 4. We don’t join ones on higher than Tier 4 because of how lousy I am at fighting. I just feel it is wrong to join in and not fight any and then get the loot. Lower level meteorites, 3 and under I can survive, level 4 maybe, higher and I will die often. He doesn’t so he can get loot; as long as he can get some ortstones, that is the important item.

The thing is, though, you can still help on higher level hunts by throwing health bombs and using revive augments.

Isn’t the benefit of a group hunt the fact that you get higher tier meteors which an independent player would never be able to summon?

I wouldn’t let this worry you - by just being there you are contributing, and you’re not denying anyone else any loot. Higher level meteorites are triggered by having more players (which they will benefit from); and you can take some of the damage off the others. If you really don’t like fighting, run around with a healing bomb!

But because one person can dig in and stay out of harm’s way even that is not really necessary… sure it helps but everyone else can die as often as they want with no penalty from the meteor.

I like the fighting, just not good at it, LOL I miss more than I hit and will get easily distracted, so much movement from critters and other players I can get mixed up in what I am trying to kill. Try to fight a couple spitters, get two cuttletrunks on me and couple hoppers join in and I am dead. High level ones, I have my armor and other skills up now that I have alts to take over my cooking and crafting.
Really wish we could have more than 100 points, 125 would be nice, even 115 would let players have what they need for gathering/hunting, which is what my girl is.

The worst part is, if you are soloing a meteor and you die, even if you get revived, you STILL lose the meteor.

Wasted 5 augments and 30 minutes of my time…

You should not lose it if you get revived.

I personally think solo players should be able to come back to a meteor as many times as they need to to complete it just like group players can or players in a group should lose meteors when they die just like solo players do …seems fair to me

Gotta say one thing about soloing meteors: it makes you way better at fighting. It’s very easy to get lazy with large groups.

I agree. Definitely prefer the way it was in EA.

Apart from the death penalty which a solo player would get too there is no other penalty for dying on a group hunt, it’s a win win for group hunts and a poke in the eye for independent players.

There’s ways around the penalty, like revive brew or death penalty epic. It’s not so nice to have to use them, because we’d much rather buff up with a speed or strength brew and put our points on similar skills, maximizing our survivability and lethality, but it’s there. Solo play has its limits, and it’s up to the player to accept those limits. You want to play solo and you complain that no one is there to save you. Maybe a special guild machine that grants solo player abilities if you are the only one in the guild.

I’m not complaining about solo players having no one to save them, I’m saying that if a solo player dies they lose the meteor but if someone in group hunt dies they just come back and carry on with the meteor regardless of if they had been revived or not.

I stand by my original statement, except that revive brews should allow a solo player to stay on a meteor.

If the group is defeated, the meteor is still lost. Someone hiding in a hole doesn’t guarantee safety since they still have to come out to revive.

There seems to be this misconception that anyone who plays as a predominantly independent player does so always through choice, as I mentioned before not everyone can just jump on a group hunt at the drop of a hat and even then they might have to keep leaving the hunt because of real life things going on. I don’t like using the term “solo player” because I’ve noticed that when that lable is used they seem to be seen as undesirables and don’t contribute to the game as it’s an MMO and therefore everyone should be in a group or guild.
