i was considering pointing this out too. But in some way @Vastar is correct. Its one thing to call granite for granite. But to call a magical gem which provides shock damage topaz just because they are the same color? That is something a bit different. Personally i dont mind it. it makes it easier for me to remember the colors
@Ben i would suggest Onyx (Dark), Moonstone (Rift) and Aquamarine (Blink)

I was considering that or Melanite. But i think people would remember onyx better.
I don’t mind the use of common names either - I think there needs to be a certain amount of familiarity to the names so the learning curve is not as steep.
… and for all we know, gem stones here on earth may well hold some magical properties, we just haven’t found a way to unlock them yet
