After giving it some time and some thought, I’ve decided to keep moving forward with this project. To respect @Angellus’ wishes on performance and not using the /dump endpoint that is 18MB+ at present, I’ve refactored the Planet Explorer to a trimmed down version that currently lets you:
Browse all the planets including past exos
For each planet, view the blocks and colors
For each planet, view the latest resource counts, %s and avg per chunk
Filter (combined) by type (Home, Active Exo, etc), tier, and atmosphere
Check for the available colors for a number of block types including all wood, stone, gleam, sand and gravel.
Not a necessity, but would it be possible to select multiple blocks and search by color as you add on to it. For example, if I choose bright sepia could I combine the filter to show igneous, meta, and sedi rock all at once.
I’ve added color + block search to the Planet Explorer. You can access it by clicking the magnifying glass in the top-left and choosing your color + block. Please note you have to actually select the color and block from the drop-down list. I’ll be addressing this at a later date.
Updated to use v2 of Boundlexx and added throttling to the color + block search so we can safely show more than 5 results (Boundlexx throttles to 5 requests per second).
Updated to provide sorting by a bunch of different resource types (by percentage). Click the sort icon in the top-left and choose the option to sort by.
It is very bare-bones right now and only displays blocks and their colors per planet. I have a ton of things I’ll be adding to it over the coming days but wanted to see what others would like to see. What features would you like to see added to this?
For those also wondering why I have it at portal-seekers.com: let’s just say I have some plans that once @monty1 and @Tiggs and the team are ready to start development on the game again, I may just reform the guild :).
