Is there a suggested lvl to start a 2nd character?

I don’t know if there is a specific lvl to start your 2nd character

I’ve looked all over and can’t find the answer, so I’m hoping that you guys can tell me.

TIA.

not really, pretty much as soon as you want to keep your main dedicated to a specific task and you want to be able to do something else requiring other skills.

the thing that is recommended at a certain time is an extra skill set. those are only really useful past level 50 because all skill points you earn have to be shared between all skill sets.

but yeah. any time really. I have 2 accounts with 3 and 4 characters. (2 accounts allows me to have 2 characters online at the same time, mostly just so I can revive myself)

Yeah, pretty much “whenever.”

I make a new one whenever I need a new specialist.

Then I make that character go though some of the basic mission things and build his own home to work up his level.

Mass craft is a good skill for this. You can “pop” teaching food then set up a ton of mass crafts before you go to bed for the night.

I have 7 characters now, one for each specialization. (crafter/builder, hunter, gatherer, miner, chef, alchemist (potions) and a forger)

Some people just buy all the slots and use them later.

That leads to another question.

My mains stats all over the place since I’ve never played the game before.

I’m lvl 24 right now.

I want to concentrate on being a builder, so I want characters that are specialists in…

  • Mining
  • Gathering
  • Crafting

I know that you respec your stats, so should I respec my main character as one of those and then just create the other characters as I need them?

Thanks

I made my first alt around your level, just to remove all the crafting skills from my main so I could survive the higher tier planets

OK.

So you removed all of your crating skills.

  1. What did that leave your main with? What was his specialality?

  2. And how did removing his crafting skills, help you survive the higher planets?

If you have the removal point to adjust your main, I’d attempt that before doing a full respec.

But to broadly answer your question, I’d either pick a specialty for him or use him as your “all around” character, just removing skills as you give them to specialists.

That’s what I did with my main until he eventually just became my dedicated crafter.

Well, the crafting skills were taking about 10pts

I put them in caustic resistance and some points in defence.

My character is now a hybrid miner and hunter.
I made a third one that is gatherer and hunter also. The one with crafting have all the crafting/forging skills +chiseling and portals

Im confused.

Maybe its because I don’t know how applying skills for multiple characters works.

Why would I remove skills from my main character?

That seems counterproductive.

Simply put, you cannot have all skills ont 1 character, there is a limit of 100 pts in the skills sheet, then you can buy additionnal skills sheet with cubits, but you can only fill it completely when you reach lvl 75 (when you have 200 total skill pts)

I found it more efficient to start an alt and xp him with crafting, while mining and hunting with my main.

Is there only one skills sheet that all of your characters have to share or does each character get their own?

Are skill sheets different than skill sets?

I know that instead of creating alt characters you could just assign different skill sets to a single character, but I’ve read that its not really efficient to do it that way.

I’m sorry to keep asking questions.

I’ve looked online to see how skills work with multiple characters, but can’t find anything specific.

Each character had their own skill sheet(s)

Not exactly sure what you mean by skill sets.

The only thing that makes it not efficient is that you need 200k xp per level after lvl 50. But each level you gain gives 4 skill points and 300 cubits.

With skill sheets you use the same skill point pool so it’s only really effective after lvl 50.

  1. There are some skills that are “either/or”, such as food crafting master and brew crafting mastery. So you can’t get them all without skill sets.

  2. Skill sets don’t work like other MMOs. You can not reuse skill points between the skill sets. For example, if you have 102 points and spend 100 points on your first skill set, you only have two left on your second skill set.

  3. You get skill points far faster at lower levels, so it’s much easier to make alts instead of using skill sets. That being said, all your alts can have skill sets as well.

  4. You want to drop unneeded skills from your main so you can spend the points elsewhere.

Because you want different skills.

You don’t need crafting skills when you’re out hunting / gathering / mining / whatever your main does most of the time. So remove the crafting skills from your highest level character so those skill points can be allocated to more useful things. A low-level alt can do the crafting instead.

Personally I prefer the one character route. Just wish there were more skill sheets

I’ve never used a skill set. Lots of extra work for no gain.

Skill pages are not useful until you are significantly past level 50. So it’s really irrelevant to this thread, since SirGreenDay is level 24.

I just reached level 50, and have the 100 skill points limit,

I was like you, not sure what to do, didn’t even know when I started about alts and my girl was a jack of all trades. I made my alt when I was around level 30, wish I had done it at level 20. I worked her on just getting the objectives done, none of the go to this toxic elemental planet and get such and such she will never do that, but the easy one to get her sill points. She is now my cook, she has all the skills needed to do that and none in other area, does all the making of the foods I have in my shop, The Making of Greatness at the G. Mall. I was able to take all the points I had in food crafting and some other areas and use them for my main girl to increase her skills in the hunting area so I can survive on the higher level planets.
JadeMan, I made him when I was at level 40, should have done him earlier, he will be my crafting of tools/weapons and anything in that area. He will never go out hunting or exploring planets, gathering supplies so need to put his skill points in those areas.

Honestly not sure if I can put skills on my second page before I leveled up to get one, but I wouldn’t do that, I needed them for my main girl. I have her where she can go to higher planets, she can make the tools and weapons, but can’t make food and do other things. That can be frustrating, the having to switch characters. When you switch, your character goes to the sanctum and your alt will show up in the sanctum, you just enter as you normally would. Problem is that if you are on one planet and she is on another you might have to travel to that planet. If I want to take items to JadeMan, I have to go to Angel 1, then switch to him, my girl goes into the sanctum and stays there.
You can switch between the skill pages, when you get that they will be as if you are a new player, you can’t use what you have on the first one for the second one. So, when you go to a second page, even if your guy or gal is high in being able to go to all the higher level planets, handle the critters on level 4 planets, when on the second skill page that will be have him as weak as a newborn baby. If away from your home base it takes15 minutes before you can switch back, if home, you can do so immediately. Still learning so I have lots of questions too.

Make a alt now, start getting him or her ready for whatever you want them to be. If you want to have two alts, I would suggest that when you have the extra cubits, you get another one.
Depending on how fast you advance, you can reach level 50 and be ready to switch to a second page probably in a couple months. For me, I like to take it slow, spend time exploring planets, gathering supplies, I never left level two planets on my own until a week ago. It took me over three months to get to that level. I didn’t mind the slow advancing, learning how to do and what to do, but everyone is different, my son advanced at a much faster rate than me. because he is a much better player, more experienced and has the drive to do so. To each their own.

When I get to lvl 50, I’ll totally make a second skill page. There is just no point until then.

It’s a clumsy system for sure  What will become apparent when you reach level 50, is that one character with one skill set (page) is only able to do one thing with any proficiency. It’s a sorry state of affairs for poor the poor Oortans.

So if you want to experience more than one aspect of the game with any proficiency, you’ll need multiple skill sets (pages) completely filled, Once you reach the equivalent of level 100, you will have 3 skill sets (pages) completely filled, so you will be able to experience 3 aspects of the game with relative proficiency.

Rinse and repeat over and over to end up with many characters with many skill sets so you can actually try all aspects in the game with relative proficiency.

I really hope they develop the RPG side of the MMO/RPG. The MMO is excellent, the RPG is all but non-existent.
