The fact that these worlds were designed as highways initially and run that way for a week only to now be choked is putting a MAJOR damper on the game. If you cant move to your base, the shops, your friends, etc your going to choke off your own player base.
Please scale those servers on those 2 planets to handle the load while you expand and force people out. I dont know your networking infrastructure but AWS and other options can definitely give you more horsepower to handle the load. It might be cost prohibitive but it might be better than angering a large portion of the player base on a weekend.
They were not, really no world was designed by devs to be highway or whatever.
Also putting more hardware when code software does not scale, won’t give anything.
But I do agree that something has to be done, and it’s a common knowledge, if you follow developers posts (I’m not saying you have to follow it though) that they are hard working on fix, and at least initial phase of fixing it gonna land next week. They didn’t deployed it just before weekend, because no sane developer deploys on Fridays, unless he’s willing to work through weekend.
Simple configuration change is not a code deployment.
Not sure I understand. Just because a player guild, Portal Seekers, build portals that lead to many other planets, does not mean it was a development team to design them as hubs. Correlation does not imply causation.
We can speculate, but I’m completely sure devs would upgrade hardware, if it was that simple (and it never is), but given that they can spin up new servers in a sec, without any downtime, there is some virtualization involved, maybe even containerization, and that makes giving more resource to a given instance rather simple (or maybe they don’t do that, and just go on bare metal, that would make adding more resources tricky )
Players created the hubs, not the devs. Yes it’s frustrating, time to make more hubs at other words and spread out the wealth. Or we can wait just a few days and it’ll be fixed.
The PS guys have re-routed a bunch of the hubs to go around, Biitula, Lamblis, and some others. I noticed this just a few minutes ago before the game lagged and kicked me off Serp…
Yes as schasm said it was the planet layout both Lamblis Bituala and Grovidias TE have 5 - 6 connections each. Since they have so many connections they are NATURALLY hub worlds. The new changes make almost every world a hub world eliminating the bottle neck.
So yes when you set 3 planets to have 6 connections each your going to have massive traffic blocks.
When you have every planet connected to all in its row and multiple other tiers it eliminates the block.
Unfortunately they waited till everyone already had bases so itll take a week or so to disperse.
Just raise portal fuel consumption to 3x
So every portal hub will have to choose very carefully what portals will have online
In my opinion portals should be a luxury.
Right now they are too cheap.
Less portals will actually encourage players to explore and discover other markets.
Well, if it was always set at 70, the portals aren’t showing that. While I was playing, I was seeing ‘World Full’ while worlds were saying they had only 49 or 56 players in them. Something was definitely not working as expected.
I think that is an issue with the way that information is communicated in game… I think that even if you are looking through a portal onto the world, then that counts as a connection, but doesn’t actually show the player on that world in the tally.
If you’re only looking at the general category, you’ll be missing any devlogs as well. Even if it was changed to announcements, you would have missed it with that filter.
I’m not a dev, just a moderator, but I am able to see counts of players per server via external means.
