I’m trying to plan the layout for my workshop.
With having to layout Spark genies and Spark Links to each machine as well as the power cells etc, I’m looking for some examples of the experts layouts.
Any YouTube etc videos out there?
Thanks

You can check out mine at High Ridge. I have it set up so I can extend the building and set up at need. The machine room guts is accessible from the basement storage (stairs in thr storage area.)
Gonna take some screenshots of what im workin on for my new workshop later tonight. Might take some pics of the old too so you can see why im upgrading lol
My favourite design tweak is having each machine embedded in the floor vertically and having the coils directly underneath the floor leaving all the spark connections at the very bottom.
Bonus feature: if you chisel around the machine with a bevel/precise bevel chisel then you can access all the coils from above the floor in complete safety!
Hope u dont mind if i add this on to mine i got space i need to utilize in the back. First time seeing it done this way
I did this in my one workshop. I have 3 different workshops with different setups for each.
My only patented design for workshop/machine layout is what I call “the Noob Cube”.
Basically it’s designed for super early game (tho I’m still using mine) as a way to get the most use out of every single plot used, without feeling super cramped and hard to navigate.
To that end, I constrain it to a single plot in height. You can make it scale in any direction desired, but the basic version fits into 5x5x1 plots. This gives enough width to have one of each fully powered machine, and two extras. In the early game I’d fill the spare two slots for ‘repeated’ machines (one in each corner farther from the spark generators) with a wall of unpowered machines vertically stacked.
Later I substituted those for one extra fully powered workbench on one side, and a fully powered compactor on the other.
Due to it being a single plot in height, if needed you can make multiple ‘floors’ like this stacked vertically (like a tower) if you ever need more machines / storage.
So with that being said here it is:
Black are walls, green are storage shelves, red are power coils, blue are spark generators, yellow are spark links (running at ‘floor level’ under the glass wall), brown are the machines.
In game it looks something like this:
View for the max coil (24) configuration, with 10 above the machine (in the configuration shown in red above), 10 below the machine (same), plus 4 in a cross formation behind the machine. This allows for easier access for repairs:
Glass wall separating machine area from storage area, with spark links under it:
Storage Shelves / Walls / Lighting:
Based on a theme I used in early access, but just bigger…
Every machine in the central area is powered (2 of each machine). Central column holds the spark generators and distributes to all machines.
All coils are accessible and repairable from the front without getting zapped.
The storage areas between machines are not needed and can be condensed to just 2 blocks wide instead of 6 (I just wanted additional storage )
Additional slow time sparked / unpowered machines also available outside the main crafting areas for the less immediate stuff (along with more storage for completed goods for the guild).
have 3 separate sets of spark generators (6 in each set…few million spark in each set, being topped up when needed)
1 for central platform with non-power machines
2 for the coil powered machines
portal entrance in middle platform
Haven’t maxed out the coils per machine but they get job done at a good rate and repairing is straightforward.
Wish I had been a bit more imaginative when setting this up but went for a design that was practical (for me!) that didn’t entail too much running about.
I am currently in the middle of rebuilding on a lava planet, but The housings will be semi the same, but the storage will be larger.
Not sure about Youtube videos unless @Jiivita did one on machine layouts?
I like a compact layout where I can get to storage and all machines without moving. Not so good for end game or industrial scale production, but it’s tidy and allows for 3000 of Power Coils on each (which can be reached for repairs). The total space is 6 deep x 5 high x as many machines as you want.

How are you guys getting all that stuff in one spot? I have a very basic place and keep hitting the mesh/chunk limit.
find where the chunks seperate, Build storage in seperate chunk them machines. and if possible even place spark gens in another.
Also use shop stands over storage boxes in areas no one will see. 16 stacks instead of 4 per mesh item.
Or even crafting tables (cheaper for early game stages) instead of shop stands / storage blocks. They’re less convenient since they don’t display items, but much cheaper to craft and still fit more than a storage block per mesh, 8 stacks vs. 4 with less material cost, it’s a pretty good deal if you can live with the inconvenience of not knowing where things are stored at a glance.
I suppose one could use a color-coding system, making tables with different colors of wood for different ‘categories’ of items, but meh, I’ve never bothered.
I had to actually make an effort to hit the mesh limit… it was a problem for me only in my mass storage area under the base. Apparently having shelves of 3x6 storage blocks with 1 wide hallways in between and 1 wide columns to separate each shelf does the trick (if you repeat the pattern enough). Kind of a library configuration.
(For those that have been born this century, libraries were places used to hold those antiquated books that were made of actual paper, so in the olden days you had to actually leave the house to get things to read.)
It seems to mostly fit with 3 wide hallways but I had to add an extra 2 blocks space around the ‘middle’ plot borders of the chunks, as shown below (the 2 extra blocks are the Decorative 2 sedimentary on the left side of the picture, Decorative 1 are the shelf rows)
I think the storage blocks are what did me in and all the crafting tables.
I have a seperate 2x2 plot in the ground that i portal to that has all the crafting tables. and extra storage for the not needed often mess.
I wouldn’t even know there was a mesh limit if it wasn’t for this site, and my workshop is almost claustrophobic.
I’m not sure how to tell when you are in a different block, but I guess all my coils must be, incidentally, in a separate one from the rest of my shop. I’ll try to remember to make a vidtonight.
I hit it once. and you can check mesh limit through debug menu if youre on PC. Ill come help show you bounderies if your on PS4. and not on a EU server
