Mailboxes have been suggested by several different people, several different times (bear with me):
I think it would be awesome to have a craftable mailbox to send gifts to friends. if a friend hasn’t crafted one, the game would say “this player hasn’t set up a mailbox” just like a cell phone lol. It would also be sweet to be able to place multiple boxes in different locations so we can receive items/mail at our other build sites. you could keep track of boxes by using our usernames.
How about a being able to craft a mail box you can set on your property that people can leave things for you if you are not online. That along with books and notes you could craft would make a mail system that most players would find handy.
Perhaps during my scouring of the forums I missed this suggestion, but here goes anyway;
I’ve recently been dropping things off for people on roads outside their builds (that we’re all villagers to) and just now I had the simple idea of a mailbox system.
You place a mailbox within your beacon that anyone can deposit into, but only you can take from.
People would be able to remove the items placed in there themselves, but not the items deposited by other players.
Need a way to build a mailbox so we can send mail to our alts on other planets or to our friends. Also would be handy if we could have a “Payment due on delivery” option - they click accept, get the package, and your payment arrives in your mailbox. Unclaimed payment on delivery would be returned after 24 hours or so, and there would be a small fee for delivering mail.
Other threads have likely been created but I thought I would put up links to some of the threads about the subject so previous suggestions can easily be seen as well. All the mailbox threads have slightly different ideas, including the suggestion on this thread, I figure that’s probably a good thing.

Acting like a locked, one-way chest, you can donate anything you like for the owner. Craftable prop, not destroyable.
(Yes we are aware that 12-14 look like toilets. Shh shhh)
