I would like to hear from other Boundless fans here why you love Boundless and prefer it over Minecraft. For me Minecraft was too much about combat and gave me anxiety. Boundless is a good balance. How about you all?!
I haven’t played Minecraft so I can’t speak to the subject much, although I have a general idea about it.
Boundless is a single multiplayer universe and all playing it must enter and exist in the same space. They might be on different planets but you can see any players’ creation given you are in right location and meet any player given you are in a right place at a right time.
It also means that even if you dislike certain activity in game (hunting, mining or else), there will be others doing it and selling needed goods.
There is no end game story-wise. The game is really you living your character life in a virtual universe and you decide what you want to do.
These are the basic premises of the game, making Boundless a different experience.
I love the auctions of how much you can build more then Minecraft, you don’t have to buy mods to get they way you want it or just to have more color options.
Even when I have bought blocks mods they sometimes glitch out, or if you have to many it will crash my world and sometimes… RIP world ![]()
In boundless, it’s endless. You don’t have to worry about buying a server just so your friends can play on the world if your not on it. And you don’t get to meet randoms on your world on Minecraft, and if you choose to trust people. It’s a 50/50 if they will greef your build something that took a long time to do or travel to get.
I love the fact there is no PvP in boundless, if I wanted PvP I have a dozen games to do that on.
I love how you can trade and have a REAL shop in boundless, not a mod or one you try to make work.
Now yes in Minecraft you have red stone. (I stink at understanding it) But I know for some people who are a wiz at it they wish boundless had it, don’t get me wrong. That would be crazy. (In a good way) Like if people make amazing things now? Holy cow what people would make with it!
Now, this is only MY PERSONAL OPINION! And true events I have delt with in Minecraft. No one think this is me forcing anything on anyone, but this is what made me stay in boundless. and sure, I go back to Minecraft, but it just does not scratch that itch for me. And sure I play it sometimes if I know my friends are in it sometimes because they don’t want to get boundless.
Some people love the grind, but I know from many of my friends and people I bought the game for, they say boundless is to hard or to grindy to do anything. (Even though I tell them that and they watch me play it first) ![]()
Anyways, this is just my thoughts and stuff, hope all are great and well, stay boundless forever ![]()
Minecraft isn’t entirely about combat. The game’s foundation is a baseline, its all about modding. What you can add to the game makes it.
Minecraft is the goat, plain and simple. Add in ATM mods, now you have enough content to keep you busy. But vanilla minecraft, its easy to blast through and get to the end and your done. Within a day for a good speed runner.
Boundless is just a gathering/collecting sim that requires other players to be efficient. Gather 360 items, trade/sell, rinse repeat. Same monsters, reskinned, resized, recolored, add sparkles. Just not much in terms of vareity. But boundless is MUCH cozier for sure.
I like Boundless better because I like the idea of planets and a galaxy. Boundless looks better graphically than Minecraft.
Boundless doesn’t feel like a complete game. Needs more creatures. Weapon variety.
Minecraft underwater can really look amazing and full of life. Boundless underwater looks like nothing
Each game by complete default does make Boundless stand out as looking better, with Minecraft having an (admittedly a few years older) style that’s more rough than Boundless does.
Toss Vintage Story in to spice things up when it comes to default graphics, and then you’ve got an interesting mixup that offers more discussion. But in general I feel like that game can sort-of fit in a bit with the discussion. Maybe Hytale too, though I have yet to play that one due to being busy with other games.
If we’re talking modified clients, I can’t really say Boundless is winning that one. Minecraft just has an absurd amount of mods that can make the game play as basically anything at this point.
Vintage Story is still a work in progress and lesser known, but is gaining popularity and has a fair amount of mods of its own, and by itself has a lot of complexity to build off of for said mods.
Since I’ve played all three(?), I’d say they all have their own benefits, but it’s more than I can write up on my phone before I doze off. May add more when I wake up and can think more straight.
I came to Boundless from Minecraft, it shows in the amount of torches in my early builds, lol. But I haven’t missed Minecraft since I stopped playing. I miss a couple of people who were on the server I spent the most time on (Gopher’s Minion Land) To go back now I’d have to rebuy the game, and work my way through nearly a decade of changes and mods.A prospect that holds no appeal for a game that had me hiding* every time the sun went down lol.
Boundless, on the otherhand, I am still building, still having fun, and still absolutely in awe of how beautiful the game truly is. I can spend quite some time just watching the skies, planet rise and fall, sun rise and sun set, watching the exos reflection glitter in the water, ok, so there are a lot of planets I don’t go to, or only go to spaces I know are covered completely and the cranky critters can’t get to me. But there isn’t a time when I can’t play unless the real world is getting in my way.
*hazard of being an absolute coward in games - run away from the bad guys lol
I would prefer Minecraft. You can get a dedicated server for Minecraft for about the same price as a sovereign world and set the difficulty on Minecraft to peaceful to where you don’t have to deal with the mobs on there and just build
I would try Minecraft if it didn’t look so bad. I really can’t play ugly graphics games. I just can’t. No matter how playable they are, how good story they have etc., games that don’t look good make me cringe.
I enjoyed Minecraft, but once I played Boundless I didn’t go back to Minecraft until about a year ago and it immediately bored me. I never played any modded Minecraft, but to be honest mods don’t interest me.
The game does have shader mods that make the game look strangely realistic. It’s actually kind of fascinating how well some people have nodded it to look so realistic, that some people refuse to believe it is a Minecraft screenshot they’re looking at.
I like both games but as somebody said above Minecraft is the GOAT. And the market agrees with 375 Million copies sold. If somebody is thinking about buying one or the other get Minecraft with some mods and don’t look back
The only thing that bugs me about Boundless is how long it takes to craft anything… just today I started crafting 6 titanium axes, and it took about an hour… in Minecraft, it’s done instantly.
If I was the owner of the game I’d probably get rid of crafting times or greatly reduce them. I’d also prefer it if they got rid of stats that require you to add points to get better at them. I’d prefer that your skills improved through use. And only have points to add to epic skills. I think those two things would greatly improve the new player experience.
Minecraft is fun, but Boundless offers more building options, a wider range of block colors, and diverse planets to explore. I love the customization aspect, though I wish Boundless provided more interactive designs and décor for our houses. Overall, I still choose Boundless over Minecraft every day.
Exactly this for me as well.
I will say, if there was no crafting time I would just make my blocks and not buy them anymore. Or at least make 90% of my blocks and anything for building. So maybe there is a slight reason for the timer? But maybe it’s just me ![]()
I would definitely leave timers for most items, especially advanced. However, some of the crafting times are ridiculously long, so significant trimming would be a good thing.
In general, I support everything that sustains and promotes both cooperation and players economy. Total instantaneous rewards all over approach is good for own servers as an option.
Global multiplayer side of game needs some tweaking but I don’t think it should be turned into something completely different than it is now.
The almost-released private universes would be best for easier gameplay - could have options to play them as survival/progression co-op (with customizable difficulty levels) or as pure building creative. Modding of all sorts here as well to give players tools to bend the game’s boundaries and have fun of all kind.
The difficulty levels for private universe could include different aggressiveness and strength of creatures, different crafting times, different xp pace, atmosphere on and off etc etc.
Sounds like there are a lot of different views. I still prefer Boundless over Minecraft but that is not to say Minecraft does not have some advantages like more development over time.
I dont feel minecraft is the goat. Too blocky for me. The only reason it got to where it is, is because it is microsoft ware. They were able to do what Boundless should have done. Advertise and promote. Basically money is why. But Boundless to me is way more pleasing on the eyes. Sadly without real investment and promotion it will never become what it could have.
