MMO Gamer Psychology / Player Personality Test

number 29 of the kind

I got:
100% Explorer

I am also:
60% Achiever
20% Killer
20% Socialiser

Seems like Boundless attracts the explorer types. Shame there is no builder player type as I bet that would change boundmoreā€™s list of results! Perhaps I could be a BEAKS instead.

Necrobump for two reasons. One, new class of folks to report their findings. Two, I miss many of these folks listed here. Shout-out to anyone who posted here thatā€™s been gone for a while. Come back soon!

Interesting topic, I wonder if this could be plotted somehow to show a more visual representation of the playerbase

test
(Apparently I liked playing MW3 too much lol)
& the last stat is very true - so not sure why I like MMOs. Possibly because humans add an extra RNG factor to games?

This is an interesting necro post. Iā€™ll jump in tooā€¦ Looks like Iā€™m pretty split. Iā€™m social explorer with a tint of achieving and throw a little bit of killing in the mix to keep in interesting.

The Bartle Test of Gamer Psychology

You are 87% Achiever

What Bartle says:

:diamonds: Achievers regard points-gathering and rising in levels as their main goal, and all is ultimately subserviant to this. Exploration is necessary only to find new sources of treasure, or improved ways of wringing points from it. Socialising is a relaxing method of discovering what other players know about the business of accumulating points, that their knowledge can be applied to the task of gaining riches. Killing is only necessary to eliminate rivals or people who get in the way, or to gain vast amounts of points (if points are awarded for killing other players).

Looks like Iā€™m not a people person

Always fun to do stuff like this, but I canā€™t do this without a bit of my disclaimer from another thread about my critiques of Bartle theory. I donā€™t think players can be pinned down into boxes quite so neatly. Most of the questions this throws out, aside from the answers that mean griefing, I could really have gone for either one depending on factors like the game, what Iā€™m trying to do, and my mood. People are quite mutable, what we want can vary, and the games themselves can shape our desires and how we play. Also, there are types of play and games that this misses, I think.

I suspect this sort of taxonomy might be more useful for the classification of games themselves, for players to know what needs they meet. The meeting of psychological needs and desires, a plethora of emotions and reactions that we translate into the broad term ā€œfunā€ is, as an author I read argued, much of the appeal of games. An idealized form of work or life, where progression is predictable and fair. Though broadly this can of course show some general trends in playersā€™, what their desires and needs are. To give obvious examples, a gregarious person who is for some reason mostly homebound will strongly lean towards Social. A person who has coworkers steal credit for their projects and then gets routinely kicked in the face by the boss might show strong leanings towards Achiever (seeking fair reward for effort) and Killer (anger release).

Mine does get me fairly accurately, all that said, except that outside of Boundless Iā€™m a very introverted player in gamesā€¦ I am an Explorer at heart, always seeking new landscapes, both in a desire to capture beauty and see new things, and in an attempt to flee from reality.

Oh my goodness, yes this. Sometimes it just depends on the day.

Usually Iā€™m like, ā€œYay, building, working towards something and chatting with guildmates.ā€ Sometimes Iā€™m just like ā€œLetā€™s go hunting, I need to destroy something.ā€ Itā€™s all part of being human.

Sometimes you have to take a hammer and a speed brew and destroy a mountain. Maybe this is why I scored so middle of the ground on things thoughā€¦ so maybe it is accurateā€¦ ok, now Iā€™m rambling.

With all the new players taking part, we have 72 participants.

I wonā€™t be updating name list - too time consuming.

Instead, I will just update numbers per type and create charts.

1. Specific Type Players vs. Multi-type Players:

2. Distribution of types among Specific Type Players:

3. Distribution of types among Multi-type Players:
