Mods & Cross Platform

With private worlds coming out sometime in the future, I believe they will lay more groundwork for mods. Having an active modding community can be a huge boon to a small dev team since they will be able to look and see if certain mods are utilized in most private worlds. If everyone is using it, it might make a great addition to the live universe.

My experience would be hampered if modding support was removed, I love having more stuff in the combat log, change the compass entity limits so I can see mobs even with lots of lootable corpses in it, move the cardinal points, change the chat a bit, modify the UI color (greenscreen mode) so I can make item icons for the websites I’m running etc. These wouldn’t be possible if the assets weren’t moddable, the team is too small to incorporate every personal preference to the game as an option.

I’m left handed but have always used the mouse in my right hand as my left hand operates the keyboards w,a,s,d keys. I couldn’t use the mouse in my left hand as it doesn’t feel natural and I’m so used to the left mouse button that even though I could probably reconfigure it it just wouldn’t feel right. I don’t know how mac users worked without a left and right mouse button, I used to feel so lost whenever I had to use one lol.

Sadly, plenty of people would like to have the same experience but they can not…

PC users ‘can’ use controller as well, but almost all console users ‘do’ use controller. I’d argue controller only really became popular for PC users because so many games provide user interfaces that try to cater to both and end up being worse for PC users who use a mouse and keyboard than getting a controller. I ended up getting a steam controller because of it and use it sparingly, although Mouse & keyboard is almost always a better tool for the job when the game is designed for it.

I didn’t say that it wasn’t. I said that because it was designed to cater to both controller AND m&k that is wasn’t as good as it could be for m&k players. That doesn’t in any way mean I think it’s the best it could be for controller users either. As is often the case when trying to cater to multiple audiences (just like sandbox and MMO apparently), you end up providing a middle ground that isn’t great for either.

Did you genuinely not see any of the development discussions where people make really innovative suggestions (from a M&K mindset), only to be told that it can’t happen because “that wouldn’t work on a controller”? Maybe you haven’t been around for as long as I had though.

the “mods” for this game are just text files sort of like datapacks that minecraft java has
