Many people would wish more inventory and I totally agree! It would come very handy while hunting, farming, building or whatsoever.
But kinda too much inventory just like that would be overpowered. Or unrealistic however you wanna call it. It could come with certain milestones like hitting certain levels (100, 150 as example) or being able to purchase it by cubits and you would be able to get up to 1 or 2 rows extra (8-16 inventory spaces).
I know they have been lots of rants about that. But telling the devs how something could look, and work is mostly more successful than the wish alone ^^
Just sharing my thoughts here, feel free to merch this into already existing topics about the whole more inventory thing
I’ve never found myself as much running back and forth than as of lately. Quite annoying
I would suggest down size the inventory we have now and we cary a sacks or backpacks or a pocket black hole that sends items to a chest that is linked up to it.
Your idea is good also. Either way at least 8 more spots would be great
Always thought it would be good to have half of what we have now, and then have a few different size backpacks (from easy to craft 4 slots to top end leather and all 32 slots, or even more than that? maybe the smallest could be 8 slots).
Larger ones could slow you down (walk and sprint speed and maybe also affect grapple reeling speed) to make smaller ones a thing, making people chose between inventory size and movement (no point in having several sizes if no one crafts small ones)
Interesting. Actually would fit the boundless universal alien theme if we could indeed port items into a specific type of chest… but now that I think of that, that exist already in some way on Minecraft. The ender chest, not? But actually something similar like that could be converted into boundless since we have already so much spacey technic, then some teleportable chest or so should not be odd
I think inventories should be larger. We’ve left the pretense of Boundless being a survival game behind long ago. Now it’s time to cut down on the grind, and that includes running back and forth everywhere.
I had a separate idea that wouldn’t help with inventory out in the world but it would cut back on a sadly large percentage of my building time… When you’re in your own beacon and open your inventory, every item contained in storage boxes within the beacon could be shown. It would be like reclaim except all available from anywhere in the beacon. You can dump your whole inventory without worrying about colors getting lost in stacks, or having to run to the specific chest you sorted them into. Then we don’t have to worry about sorting build inventories perfectly.
Storage blocks and shelves maybe don’t apply so it doesn’t mess with the order of things we’re displaying in them?
Love the idea of a pocket black hole. Assigned to a specific chest or a chest that was linked to it separate from the others so you had to craft that specific chest. The pocket blackhole takes up an inventory slot.
Be a great way to have an inventory extension without changing it.
A sort of related idea I had about “more room”, years ago.
Though to be honest, these days I have to agree with the sentiment here:
Like many people who have been around “a while” I have a lot of… Everything. If I want to work on any kind of build that involves more than 1 colour, I find that you just need to carry way too much stuff around and I end up having a mess of “in-progress build chests” that I put and take things in and out of as they are required.
I also don’t like the fact I spend far too much time running back and forth for inventory management. To be honest, even Creative worlds are a pain to be in because inventory management is still a pain there, especially with no block-picking function.
More actual inventory space might help either way but adding more space would just mean it would get filled anyway… Certainly for me, the inventory would have to be enormous to the point of being practically unusable because of the amount of stuff I’d feel I “need to keep” in it.
Being able to have some kind of tool that gets linked directly into a specific storage unit when used, that might work better than a straight addition of inventory space.
Inventories frequently get full during meteor hunts. Consequently, most players use two inventory slots to carry a beacon and a chest for mid-hunt deposits. This is tedious and doesn’t add any fun to the game.
Possible solution:
Create a “reclaim chute” craftable item. The crafting cost should be relatively expensive, but the chute would allow any player to use it to drop items directly into their own reclaim. The chute would have a small private inventory and a “deposit” button to drop to a reclaim entry. After 5 minutes, the chute expires and all undeposited reclaims are deposited. The chute itself is returned to the owners reclaim.
Benefits:
Only hunt leaders would need to craft and carry these chutes. This reinforces the leadership role of hunts and brings players together for depositing to reclaim rather than separate.
Since these chutes are re-useable and can help gather players before changing areas, the chutes can also reduce the impact of players that throw unwanted items into the general hunt population.
Decreasing the roadblocks in hunts can increase their attraction
Drawbacks:
This has little benefit to solo hunters
Depending on how the storage and reclaim systems were designed, this could be extremely difficult to program.
Depending on code implementation, this could be a potential source of lag griefing. Code implementation and/or design should spend extra time accounting for this.
Crafting & Building Inventory
Problem:
When building or crafting, you often need to switch between different materials or tools in your inventory and hotbar. Doing this by finding the right storage block and manually swapping out items is tedious and can be frustrating if things stack together in an unintended way.
Possibe solution:
Hot Swap Storage.
A storage locker could be set up with an inventory the exact size of the player inventory, and include a “quick swap” option after opening, which would instantly switch out the full inventory. If possible, the locker should also store information on which items were in the different hand slots.
A smaller, 16 slot, locker could be used to hot swap only the carried items. It should have the items visible without opening it, similar to the open storage blocks already in the game. If an item in your hand is part of a stack, the whole stack should go too.
Benefits:
Allows players to have loadouts placed into the world, further increasing the amount of “purpose” possible in builds - similar to how machines are set up.
Reduces the need to have alternate characters for tasks.
Reduces the friction when swapping task types, decreasing the chance of a player logging out
Increases the practicality of using a plethora of different crafting materials and tools, which could decrease the difficulty and tedium in creating complicated builds.
Drawbacks:
Players could get frustrated by unexpected changes to their hand items when using this
Sounds a bit like in two other sandbox games where they have an area of reach where you can access the inventory from chests. Your idea is though advanced and would definitely! save time. Also if you have a messy storage you know how much you have from what source
The reclaim chute sounds bit problematic as of now since reclaims can be bit bugged apparently? But it would be an awesome solution indeed!
I adore the Hot swap storage. I thought back then already it would be cool to just copy the inventory just like it is into a chest so I don’t have problems sorting it slowly in and such. Would be extremely helpful
Yes WE Need more inventory space doesn t Matter how…
Running Hunts
I ll Need Minimum 1 chest with 40ss space for all the loot from one hunt !!!
Its annoying to Put campfires and reclaim everything after all too much wasted time for nothing…
Farming / Gathering
Not possible to Farm 15 Minutes for ore or gems with collecting Rocks too you Always Need to prepare your whole inventory several stacks for gems ore Fossils Opal and so on having done this you can do perhaps 45 Minutes Till your inventory IS full Need to Go Back Home or Put campfires again…
If you want to Farm Lets say Peat Rocks Sand or whatever IT Takes only a few minutes and your inventory IS full… Again campfires or Go Back Home…
Then you have to clear your reclaim s again time which IS lost …
This Game has such a Grind so Don t let people waste the time with such Things…
Double the inventory and give US the opportunity for big bags too .
You’re right, maybe we should also ban AOE boon. I mean just like Turri said, within few minutes the inventory is full. So we need to do something about it so it’s not going that fast
Apart from unlimited slots, there will always people complaining about this, and i see it in nearly every single game I played that haves inventory management,
Add 8 more slots to boundless and people will complain in a few months once they get used to the extra space and adapted their play style to fill that up quickly.
Not that it would really happen easily, but having a VERY large inventory could “technically” allow someone to farm say all Umbris on an Exo etc. I know that’s not very realistic.
Exactly this seen it happen in a few games. Actually, had one obscure MMO that allowed for bags inside other bags and wound-up ruining parts of the game economy pretty bad.
