I have been playing for about 2.5 weeks now and I’m confused why people keep saying the economy is broken. The reason I’m confused is because I both buy and sell goods on a daily basis and therefore cannot understand how something that works well for me is “broken”. I usually sell farmed goods like iron, bitter beans or more recently oort from hunts. When I concentrate on farming or participate in a large hunt I can usually bring in 50k + in just a couple hours. I then funnel that money back into the economy through the gear I purchas (those aoe hammers). So what’s broke?
I think a lot of people are just comparing it to what it was at launch. Lots more players getting lots more coin from feats etc. and footfall was a bit more plentiful too. And of course everyone was new and less self sufficient so overall everyone was spending more.
I agree its not all doom and gloom. I’ve only seen an increase in my shops the last month, both buying and selling… but i wasnt doing it in the golden era so i cant compare it to the past.
I’m by no means a new player(early launch ps4) but I’m in complete agreement with you. I generally spend 400k in a week(usually in one day to boot) and make that back within a couple of days
The only thing anyone has ever mentioned is the broken footfall system as an explanation but I still feel as if it’s not broken seems to me like it works fine…
Ikr to me a broken economy in a game is when you literally can’t sell or buy anything. This economy compared to some games is booming and when you take into account the lower number of players than the big mmo’s I’m amazed since this economy works better than most games I’ve played.
I think some people miss the high prices of things even tho that meant a smaller consumer base
I wouldn’t say it’s broken but it’s definitely not as strong as it was. Still though, I sell and buy a lot so it’s not broken imo.
Yeah im not sure, footfall doesnt seem overly broken to me either (sure after a month of no resets it slows down a little), but again im not comparing it what used to be. Thats just one of the common reasons in the usual “the economy is broken” threads.
I agree with you its not broken. Its working well in my experience, and i think its just different now. If youre still clinging to when gems were 800c and havent changed tactics then it would probably be a bit rough now.
I said in another thread a while ago im kinda happy i didnt find the game in early access cause i cant compare it to what it used to be. So have the luxury of just enjoying it for what it is now.
So basically just ignore the people screaming it’s broken so long as it works for us😂…
I think it’s working fine and will continue to until I am unable to buy or sell stuff
I am curious to see how the new update to footfall that’s gonna drop with the clan update will affect the economy…
24 x the amount of money in the game should jack prices sky high xD…
Anyone wanna buy my bitter beans for 2500 ea??
How about 3x3 hammers for 500k??
I know that’s not gonna be the result but still prices should go up with more money in the game
As someone who used to be a big seller:
People used to buy lots of items, especially crafted ones. However, it is pretty easy to level a character and make your own stuff. Because of taxes plus a desire for some profit, shops have to surcharge items by at least 50% extra, further driving people to make their own stuff instead of buying. Shops can’t function without buyers. You guys are in the minority buying things. Most players now craft and farm almost everything, and only sell items - but nobody buys anymore.
As this has worsened, many users have stopped selling as much in their shops. As users stop selling, they stop buying as well, so their request baskets dry up too. So as I walk around the BL shops, I see shops with half their inventory gone (and shopkeeper has given up), and with zero request baskets.
I used to buy and sell gems mostly - and to me the price point was never the issue. I can buy and sell gems at a lower price without issue. However, three times as many people would sell me gems as would buy them. This happened even with tight margins - say, me buying gems for 450 and selling for 550, with almost no profit. I started doing what other shops did - dropping my request basket prices lower to try to reduce the amount of stuff I was buying to be more in line with demand for stuff I was selling. Even still, demand was low and supply high. People would also come by asking if I was going to refill my request baskets for coal, metals and other stuff. However, I stopped buying because people sold me tons but nobody bought - leaving me with a massive surplus of materials (think 10,000 gold ores, 20,000 medium coal etc) with nobody to sell the finished products to.
Basically the market is oversupplied and there is insufficient demand. This leads to wild price fluctuations and makes shopkeepers quit. It would be like if everyone got a free farm and sewing machine IRL, plus everyone somehow had job skills in every field of work, and store prices were super high due to oppressive taxes so everyone started crafting their own clothes and food. The grocery stores would go out of business with nobody buying groceries, then the suppliers would go out of business without supermarkets buying from them, then farmers would go out of business without suppliers buying from them. Yes, shops still exist, but most shopkeepers have largely stopped being devoted to this game. I think everyone is mostly “waiting it out”, and without the devs trying to do something to fix things, players haven’t yet returned. The devs could help by introducing items with difficult crafting requirements - for example, recipes requiring 15,000 power from uber power coils or something like that. For reference, around release there were 2500 players online at most times, and now there are an average of 250. It’s a ghost town.
Hi, where’s your shop at that your selling all this stuff?
I’d like to come have a look at it, maybe get some tips
I’ve been playing since launch on ps4 and have not been able to sustain anything like that level of cash flow.
I have a store (for basic mats) with low prices compared to most I see, and when I go running round shops to sell off goods to baskets, most I see are either empty or pay so little that it would take constant 24 hour gathering to bring in that sort of coin.
So I guess I must be going wrong somewhere, not asking you to divulge your secrets, but checking out your store etc, would maybe give me some tips
Lol thing is I haven’t even opened my shop yet. I have my stands all set items stocked etc. but my supply dips because I see people buying at higher prices than I would be trying to sell at. @fidach
So how do you:
The spend part is easy enough!
Again not looking for your secrets, you have found a way to generate that much coin (I say well done), but would love to know how you make it all back again in general terms!
Hi FireAngel and Fidach
Fidach has fantastic prices btw guys.
But yes, cash flow is an issue. Me and other forgers used to be able to put out 50+ 3x3 hammers and they’d sell out in a day. Now, everything has slowed way down as the player base has contracted.
Maybe food should refill much less stamina unless it is high level cooked food. I always thought it was dumb I can just spam earthyams to quickly refill my stamina, this makes it so I’ve never really bought fancy foods. Same for hammers and other tools, they last forever, maybe halving all durabilities would help the economy.
I too want to know how you move that much product!
Hey DK, thanks for the plug!
The solution to the problem seems obvious to me then…
If everyone can do everything you take that ability away.
If everyone was limited to 1 char and say 2 skill trees they would be forced to buy what they couldn’t farm.
Unfortunately with farms and private world in development we seem to be getting farther away from the need for community and closer to a solo experience with occasional mmo gathering for hunts.
It truly is sad as I have seen too many games go down the same path😢
Agree taking away the ability to do everything would cause more trade, but it would also push the prices of legendary torch-and-pitchforks up as people riot about being limited.
A friendlier way would be to add a ton of stuff to make which would need to be made often - things that wear down and break. If there’s more to make than you possibly could with your available time, well you just can’t do it all hehe. And it would still feel boundless. I think we’ll get there
My main point though is that they are actively working in the opposite of that direction with farms and private world…
With 5 friends I can have every gem on a private world and all the other resources and with farms I can farm them in mass I really hope they find a way to ensure the community aspect of the game is not tarnish in their attempt to ease the grind for the people complaining.
