Ok what did I miss?

Yea that’s what I’m doing now but it doesn’t stop the giant explosion from going through walls and killing me… it’s only kinda effective. However that fact we need to bug the mobs to kill them should be a testiment to how broken they truly are no?

which is EXACTLY why it shouldn’t be diamond but ALL gems. Like keep part of it diamond for the crafting but the tools themselves require that gem type of energy. Ruby for ruby tools ect.

I have a home on Vulpto. But, I mostly use homes for my three characters on Therka. I have something like 330 hours in on my three characters. I have never made higher than an iron anything. I have never made a portal either. All my characters are low to mid 30’s. My builder/crafter won’t be going to Vulpto for much probably until level 50. They can make things on Therka or any of the other planets I have homes on that are not high level until I make a portal. My gatherer can stick to gathering lower places than Vulpto and my hunter can do the gathering and mining on the high level planets. Not a problem. If you only have time for one character personally I would make a hunter that has some crafting abilities. If my main interest were selling things or building things then I would make a crafter/builder that can’t do the high level things and be happy with staying on the two lower level planets. The lower level the planet, the more people live there and the higher level the fewer people due to danger and people not liking the looks of the atmospheres on some. Not a problem. My hunter does all the dangerous stuff but can’t do fancy building or crafting and can’t mine or gather real fast. So what? It’s a hunter and doesn’t need to do those things. I can survive on Vulpto even lower 30’s with my hunter even though I spend some points in brewing and some basic crafting so don’t have health or anything maxed and certainly not armor. If just one character I would use my hunter with some other basic skills and be happy. I’m just in it for enjoyment and not getting rich or any kind of competition. So, it makes no difference to me if it takes a year to get to max level. Once at max level if started with just one character I would play it little and work on a specialist mostly until it’s max level and then start the other specialist and do it mostly until max. Once all three no matter how little or much time I have I likely delete the hunter and start over again on it but keep the specialists to help the hunter. Do that over and over until someday I’m bored. There’s nothing about any game to get all worked up about. It’s just games and should be relaxing. If not relaxing then perhaps it’s time to find something else to do.

The other issue now is that we lack gem’s to combat the enemies… the cost of weapons has got up 2k overnight and now NOBODY is selling ANY gem’s and ALL are requesting… this is a HORRIBLE problem… they have too many planets with high tier and not enough gem’s to combat trying to get gems. This is entirely due to the crappy death penalty, but yea… still a problem.

I do fine solo. Use a bit of tactics and it’s survivable and can be fun. Don’t spend all your time on any level planet. One thing that makes Boundless great is there are so many places to explore with different things to see and do. Spend more time enjoying the variety and less time worrying about skipping over everything to be top level. Enjoy the ride.

Oh trust me if they did away with the stupid warpsec’s (worst mechanic ever) I would have done that from the start. But they haven’t and probably won’t so I can’t. :confused: (unless I use other people’s stuff which kills the solo experience) Oh and that would require gem hookshots which I can’t ever attain without getting end game… seem’s kind of like exploration is not allowed… feeling kind of bounded.

I play solo. Unlike you, I have never mined a gem. As far as I know (since I haven’t looked too hard at the idea) you need a silver or gold hammer to get gems. I have never made a silver or gold anything yet other than some bars I smelted from ore. Like you I just spent a week moving a few places and probably have another week to go. I realized I had way too many homes, so, I consolidate. The only home I have in a town is on Vulpto and I don’t have portals. I’m also too cheap to use the blocks from meteors to travel when I can run and explore. So, it takes a lot of time moving. No big deal. I explore on the way and get distracted and take forever. Don’t get all upset about a game especially when you knew buying it that it’s early access. Of all the early access games I ever got, this is one of only two I think that I’m over 20 hours. Others were junk and I saw no future improvement coming so I deleted them without ever complaining or saying a word. In any game I’m almost always solo and Boundless is no different. Relax and take your time and you can do anything at this point at least solo if you like. Many of us are almost always solo and get things done too. It just takes longer. My first fancy power coils will be totally from my own efforts. I make at least one of anything before I would ever buy just so I can say to myself I did it. Since I have not mined a single gem, obviously the fanciest things I make use spark, but, no coils or gems. Someday I’ll get there, but, probably long after 1.0 comes out. lol

As for grapples… I have made some copper and iron ones. That’s all I know about them though since I have no idea how they work so have not ever tried them.

I used to do that on vulpto… before they made the mobs kill you every 2 feet!

Do the weapons cost 2k or have they gone up by an additional 2k?

People moved them up 2k for no reason other than a HUGE gem shortage from the hit on vulpto and poison doesn’t work so it really should be worth 1…

Actually, as I found out randomly yesterday (pre-patch) the charge damage of a Wildstock will penetrate a single block wall. That was a surprise I tell ya!

Still, as far as combatting T3 Cuttletrunks (and I assume, higher) the best option is to engage them in a forested area where you can play ring-around-the-rosy and hang them up on the branches. As that is not always an option, carry a small supply of sand/soil/gravel blocks with you and deploy several in a 2x2 wall at the minimum. If you have more time to prepare for the fight, a 1x3 pillar that you then make a ‘mushroom cap’ on that extends at least three blocks from the shaft will help give cover and also interfere with the cuttle’s famous 'Suck ‘n Chuck’ maneuver.

If things go bad or you are a less combat oriented build, your best option is to stop running and dig straight down. Dropping three blocks down should be relatively quick (especially if you are mining specced) and after that, you just need to dig one tile over to completely insulate yourself from any attack, Cuttle or otherwise as they will not attack without line-of-sight. Once that is done you can Dig-Dug your way a bit deeper and break aggro before popping back up elsewhere.

I do agree with you that having some type of blueprint system in place for structures would be amazing.

The warnings are plastered on both outlets where the game can be purchased, that this game is in Early Access (essentially at this stage not even alpha but pre-alpha as not all core concepts are in place) That any and/or every thing can be subject to change, and by purchasing it in this state you agree to essentially be a QA tester/bug hunter while having some fun if you so chose…

There will be many many more changes before 1.0 is released. If you cant get behind this idea you might want to back out and wait till 1.0 to play… Otherwise… play the game… test various aspects of the current builds, report actual bugs, and professionally voice your opinion, or have rational discussions about your concerns. Don’t throw a fit, it does not help people’s perception of you and it does not help improve the game.

Ours are an additional 500-1000 for the additional shard cost. No gem shortage here…

Things always change when there’s a big update in terms of availability and prices, I’m sure if we all have a little patience it will eventually settle down. The update has only just gone live and things are never going to be perfect first time.

well, I am level 50 or almost 50 with all my alts but I still use copper and silver grapples - don’t bother with gem at all;
slings is copper/silver as well for my miner and crafter whenever they venture into a difficult world I use my speed to get away from mobs - fight the ones up to strong level, sometime can do mighty one (if fighting just one at a time); it’s ok not to be able to engage high level mobs - if I didn’t have a hunter specialized in fighting and using gem tools I would be just as happy; even now my hunter often just goes exploring and gathering surface resources and avoids fighting;

so - not having gem slings and not being high level is not that of a problem, just make sure you have good speed and extra jump height and you just walk (sic!) away from any fight you don’t like :sunglasses:

PS. I think Vulpto has gone terribly wrong with so many mobs around - I don’t mind meeting elite ones but there are too many of them around; one can hardly move without stumbling into a group of mixed species; I think hunting should be a thing we chose to do - if we don’t want to hunt we should be able to travel around with a chance to navigate around mobs we spot (or run away when surprised - now running away from a fight makes you hit another group of mobs and you have more on you); before this patch any planet could offer exploring space where fight would happen sometime and sometime you would die in lava (lol) - difficult terrain and toxic atmospheres in future is enough trouble, I think, and when worlds get overpopulated with mobs its just a bit too tedious; me being hunter lvl 50ish have no problem killing them all in most cases, but its just boring to be meeting so many creatures - its like all those old strategic games that just throw more enemies at you when you rise difficulty to have a challenge, instead of offering solid challenging AI. So, yeah - the creatures in Boundless have interesting attacks and moves and behaviors and its better to challenge us more with that than with numbers.

I have a level 50+ character too and have never used gem grapples either, just iron and gold which have been fine for me so far. Too many other things I need the gems for instead as well as the skill points needed to use them

I agree that the mob spawns seem a little on the dense side making it really hard to not get in a fight.

As for weapon of choice- my main is a level 40 miner, so i dont have any death reduction and mostly power / swing speed and luck upgrades… i run around with my “cute” red stone slingbow or maybe an iron one if I’m feeling real baller the day. A few hp levels and some speed upgrades are more than enough to kill the first 3 levels of cuttles with relative ease, I’ve even capped a few level 4’s if its 1 on 1 on flattish ground not near lava.

Granted i get as jealous as a green gleam block when ppl on hunts 1shot beasties with diamond shotguns, but my stonebow can keep me safe from most enemies (except wildstock, that’s when i copper grapple onto ANYTHING around :rofl:

Okay Folks i think its Time to tell you again one of my Secrets xD…

You can easily do Everything Solo with lvl 1 and just a Totem (but i would use at least a Stone Hammer), if you just jump into Water, after getting aggro’ed and dive down arround 5-7 Blocks, then build a Tunnel into the “Wall” and dig out a U bend (Thats possible with the Totem, but obviously butthurt :wink: ).
If the Cuttle/Spitter/Wildstock still Aggros you, it will follow you Underwater, and drown (If you want Exp from that you just have to shoot the Drowning Animals with whatever Weapon).
Solo’ed a Core 3 Meteor on Vulpto that way, cause it dropped right at the seaside xD.

The Mobs are just completely dumb and aggressive, why don’t use that against them? xD

There is no gem shortage. Just not a lot of people are selling Rough Gems and would rather buy them. Some people, including myself, aren’t buying or selling Rough Gems cause I have a stockpile of 2k Rough Gems in everything but Diamonds, nearly 3k Rough Diamonds, and nearly 2k Rough Oort.

If there was a shortage on gems, then gem related items would be a lot more expensive than they already are. Same thing for Coal. There is no shortage. Just cause people aren’t selling it doesn’t mean there is some sort of shortage. Just not a lot of people don’t want to sell their stuff for whatever reason they have.
