So if they had communicated in the first place things wouldn’t have got to this point so really at any given point that they shut down worlds they kill the game. I wish I would have not suggested them buying boundless but pretty sure it would of died in either persons hands. They have no intention of doing anything with the game so I guess I wish all of you I met in Boundless fairwell. I do hope this game does die fully and maybe with all the other failed games they have acquired will bankrupt them like they did with boundless. Maybe then someone can make something like it or better.
This idea you guys had for other game must be grand because I’ve been gaming for over 40 years and boundless is one of the games I’ve seen with the most potential. Fact is boundless was bought to give passive income until it doesn’t and there was never any plans to do anything with it. What a surprise that the game is losing when it’s practically still full price and still categorized as a PS4 game ( can’t find it in ps store unless you specifically look for it ), never goes on sale and also don’t put a single penny into advertisements. There is no justification for this game costing 2x or 3x more than any game that shares similarities like minecraft for example.
I have no faith in your other project if you guys don’t recognize what the gaming industry is at this moment. Other companies have turned games completely around by using the free to play model and making income by selling skins and other things. Minecraft became a billionaire dollar juggernaut without being free to play by listening to their fans and even more than that using content their fans have created. @georgegroeg how many skins do you think you could create in a week that could be used to sell? How many could other people in the game create? That’s just skins, there are plenty of other things that could be sold that wouldn’t be considered pay to win.
It would only take one of you guys there to spend one hour a day on social media hitting places like minecraft fan pages to advertise to grow game. Making 1 person a day wanting to play boundless could have a snowballs effect and make it at least profitable.
I do appreciate the honesty I really do but it’s embarrassing to say the least. If you’re not making money then you should have a good long look in the mirror because it’s your own fault. There’s at least 50 people I who play the game that would become multi millionaires if giving boundless to operate.
$19.99 at a permanent 50% price reduction isn’t considered a sale?
That’s steam price those on PS are still paying 39.99. There is a reason I play on PC. So sad there are so many negative Nancy’s. They didn’t say there are no plans. But they have been silent for a long time about anything. The fact that Jon-Eric at least stated they are busy with another game but still looking into what they can do for boundless is better that the silence we have had. I will look at it as there is a glimmer of hope. As far as free to play I think it draws in too many trolls that look for free to play just to see what kind of mayhem they can create. A free weekend to draw some new players in could give a temporary boost but would need the community to step up to help those trying it out. Show them what’s possible and such. Does the splash screen for PS players say Monumental yet? Or does it still say Wonderstruck? I have not heard if they finally got things worked out with Sony. Right now if you enjoy the game play it for what it is and for as long as it is around. Those that are opposed to that don’t have to play their loss. They may wish later that they did while they could have.
I agree. Making it FTP will bring in the worst kind of people to troll the players. Also the PS price is controlled by Sony and Monumental has no control over that.
A restricted free trial period might be ok, but they would need to lock down stuff like chat and how many plots you can accrue until full purchase. Full on free to play isn’t going to work in a game that allows player plotting without major changes, and I think it is pretty obvious that there is no appetite for making updates to the game.
The biggest problem is that the game never got completed past a beta stage. The combat system, character creation, clothing, skill system, farming system, chat system, decorating system, leveling, etc are not finished. It is obvious they never got finished. What is worse is that this impacts other systems that did get finished. For example, the crafting system/economy is tuned to people doing a whole bunch of combat, but there is barely any combat to do. So you have people stuck doing endless meteors which get boring after the second or third hunt. What is there is the bones of a great game, but without more than bones it is never going to be a big success. There are only so many people who are willing to sink time into a game stuck in permanent beta, and that group of people is not large. Price cuts and free trials are not going to help much unless the game gets more fully finished and polished, and at this point that seems unlikely.
Start a new character. See how much there is to do. See how long it takes to get a full skill sheet.
The problem is the current player base is bored; a new player base wouldn’t be. Apparently, there was plenty to do for the current player base and we had around 1k players at some point and the majority left because they got bored.
Many who played 5+ years … once you get to a certain point in the game you never have to hunt if you don’t want to. I seldom hunt, but I do enjoy it with a good group.
Ive hopped in voice chat with @Wondernut and his hunts and @Chicula with her hunts, they are pretty fun and pretty quick when you are just listening to music and chatting away. Not to forget @2FACEWICKED
While I do agree the game was never fully finished and may never be, it’s fully functional and apparently has years of content as shown by the many years a decent number of players put into it.
What does how much there is to do have to do with unfinished systems? Me needing 12 million sand and dirt to make glass means absolutely nothing when it comes to creating a character and having to scroll through 255 colors one by one to get the color I want in the character creation screen. It has nothing to do with the fact that the chat messages show up in irregular intervals sometimes days after they were sent. It has nothing to do with the fact that my character is stuck permanently running around in her underwear. It has nothing to do with the fact that there is no craft all button, the skill system fixes it so half the skills and most of the food and brews are useless, and there are no decorations to place in my builds.
I’m not bored. Do I find meteors boring to the point of torture? Yes. Absolutely. But I’m not bored with the game. I play an average of 35 hours a week. I find many ways to amuse myself. I get around the nonexistent combat system that makes me want to fling my character off one of my skyscrapers by selling beans and leaves and metal and buying oort at outrageous prices because most people hate hunting leading to low supply and high demand.
How much I play and love the building and love the economic system doesn’t blind me to the fact that the game IS NOT FINISHED. My personal attachment to the game is not a blindfold. Boredom is no the catchall excuse you think it is.
June 5th was my 6 year mark.
Actually it is. Everything else is cosmetic or Quality of Life issues.
lol. No. This is like saying when @Rhenford mows half the lawn and calls it finished that the tall grass possibly full of rattlesnakes is a cosmetic and quality of life issue. Calling it done doesn’t make the other half of the lawn mowed, and calling boundless done doesn’t make the systems that aren’t finished complete. Cosmetics and Quality of Life matter to people who buy video games.
We know everything James intended to put in the game was never fully implemented. So, I agree the game was never finished and who knows some QoL fixes may come. I’ve written off any updates that James had intended just as I’ve written off James himself.
Not really using it as a catchall, so much as I can pick any game in my vast Steam library and many I have played and many I go back to and play and while many had updates the overall game remained the same except for the 2-5% of new content/cosmetics etc. I just got bored… here’s a personal example:
I didn’t play WoW for years, I want to say since Cata… I went back and played it, and it had changed a ton… I had a blast for a little while, but I got bored pretty quickly. There was sooo much new content, but the base game was very much the same even though it had been what… 5-6 more expansions after that?
I don’t disagree overall not everyone is bored, I do get bored after the many hours I’ve played, but I enjoy building and have reclaimed multiple times.
It. Was. Raining.
You have to roll your eyes at their comments. Unless they can show us where the swords, shields, Multi-tiered biomed planets, and Titans are. From a building/gathering perspective, they got what they wanted.
For me: Been waiting for day 1 for the meaningful group based PvE experience I was sold on.
It really did get finished in EA. Removing the bow/tool damage on death bit helped a lot. Farming and reclaims helped a lot too. More tiers and diamond bows/graps/tools were just icing. We had titanium and we loved it. I don’t missing having to tier up each time I went for a better metal time (minimum gold to mine titanium…) I never even heard of forging in EA - was it after too? I was overjoyed when I found titanium tools for just 777c !!! Back a while after I first joined up again in 2018.
Welcome back! I’ve seen you mentioned, but I don’t think we’ve met. But I’ve heard about you from people like Ovis and others.
I assume the amount you loose is to much to be worth posting to get some people buying GC etc?, I just got another 180days.
Well it’s good that there is some clarity provided by john-eric, can appreciate that a lot! It’s a sad story for Boundless, but makes me curious about what they are brewing for their new game. The’ve bought multiple games (Boundless, Crowfall), game engines (Turbulenz for example), game platforms (GA.ME, Congregate) so they seem too be going all-in.
