There is a lot of info swirling about the upcoming release of Private planets. We don’t have an ETA but very cool it is being worked on.
If you are going to get a private planet, would you want it connected to a portal network?
It seems with permissions no one can build on your world…so connecting would be 100% up to you! Just curious if folks are looking to connect their private worlds to the existing networks.
If I do a private one. It’ll be just that . Only one portal will lead there and it’ll be hidden from all but a select few people. But depending on pricing I will do two planets. One private and one public.
Probably. I wonder if the rental planets will all be the same amount of blinksecs away or if it will vary.
It looks like we’ll be able to choose from different types of lush planets? They posted an arid one yesterday. I wonder what other types of lush planets there could be?
I wonder if the same set-up for private worlds will be available for personal creative worlds? It’d be nice to boot one up and fly around to scope it out to make sure you like the config you’ve chosen before signing up for the rental.
I’d assume you can select the colors you want for each thing on private/creative planets.
I’m thinking we may not be able to do the same for rental planets connected to the MMO universe, but maybe we can at least select from some palettes? (ie: cool/blues, warm/oranges, etc)
I care less about colors and more about making sure my “arid” world isn’t just a giant sandball with a few trees. I’m very very curious about applying climate to the world and not to individual biomes like we see in the standard worlds.
I definitely am too poor to afford a rental world. I really hope it doesn’t spread the player base out even more. If all the main players in the game jump to rental worlds who will be left on the regular peasant public world’s?? Especially since you can choose who builds in the private world’s, so it might even be infuriating to walk through a portal and see a beautiful new planet, only to find out you can’t even build on it.
I’ve been so mixed on rental world’s since hearing about them for these reasons. I hope it doesn’t ruin the game as we know it.
I really hope we get a blue print system to copy out settlement. If so then I could possibly thinking switching to a private world. To rebuild everything all over again would just be to much.
I’d say private world’s helped grow those numbers because those games almost required private servers to play with other people. This game has a pretty persistent universe that’s intermeshed in a great way. I can see the appeal of rental world’s but im mostly just wondering about how it could effect the game longterm if a lot of the big name players start mainly playing on their rental world’s instead. Not saying it’ll happen that way but it’s definitely a worry in the back of my mind
I don’t think everyone is going to jump ship and hide, though I do understand the thought process behind worrying about the visible population. I know a few groups refuse to play until they can get private build planets due to wanting to theme planets without random builds on them. So its possibly you will see even more people running through hubs if we get an influx of returnees.
I personally will probably build on both, though I will probably ash my current build and do something small in @Aragorn 's town of Autumn and do my major builds on a rented server. I’m looking to avoid the floating boxes people are building on the skyline since they break up the view.
Most offer free public MMO areas, some offer local co-op, others have private servers you can rent/host, etc. More options will allow more play styles & hopefully help the game grow.
I don’t think this game is going to grow if they are afraid to try new things or add features that people have come to expect from games in 2020. It’s not good for a game to remain stagnant, especially if you want to appeal to more players.
Rental/creative planets will just be an added feature, along with the other things they are going to put in the game
I will rent a world if I can afford it ok… but I’m pretty sure the bulk of my playing will be on the public worlds still, my mining, all my shopping, and really probably most of my building still.
The big question for me is sort of related to the original question though - do I really want to open it up, or do I want a private refuge? As social as I can be online sometimes and as much as I do truly love everybody here, I’m actually an introvert, and on top of that moods sometimes hit where I really want to be on my own… so, should I keep it as a hideaway for me and just a few others? I’m very torn on whether to throw open the doors to all and connect it to a network, or have it hidden away. For awhile I was thinking absolutely private, but now I’m not so sure, might be nicer to let people come enjoy if they want.
