When the cost outweighed the gain? Relatively speaking you can craft and forge any item in the game used for mining for nothing but the cost of the time it takes. If the material is something you need that much, you would do this?
I am strictly speaking from an economic standpoint which is where a good portion of the player base comes from.
I make all my own tools and alot of my forged goods.
However looking at things objectively and from the standpoint of other groups of players helps to pinpoint issues that will affect more of the playerbase.
But as far as my time and cost goes tunneling through thousands of rock for a material that doesn’t have much use other than some building and mostly lackluster farming uses for just a couple units isn’t worth it. In my opinion
That’s a fair point although the stuff under the ground is fairly easily found. Go to the blue spot, mine directly down and 90% of the time you fall into it.
You should start a YouTube and show everyone how easy it is.
True there are times though when it’s not and it can spawn from surface to mantle so that’s a lot of rock if the surface happens to be at altitude 200.
Can you all just put out private planets my buddies and I can turn into a private universe so I can start playing you monthly. I’m tired or listening to reasons things should be rare and being told to spend 100 some odd hours farming diamonds for other players to get enough money to buy what I need for my builds.
Just something I think is an interesting aside on this… the people who are clearing out tunnels by brute force like this are actually IMO opening up a good niche for players without so many resources. Heck, they pay for many of my trips! First, they’re actually missing some of the lucent gems themselves in their rush, not looking behind them. But the big one, they very often leave everything else - even without a 3x3 a newer player could do very well, make quite a fortune really just scavenging all that, just sitting out right for the taking. They’re creating places to work from and scavenge around - dig around what is in plain sight, other resources often quite close.
There are players on this forum that could use assistance in how to find the resources that are hidden. If you have a good method you could be helping them out.
Got to the spot on the atlas, and mine directly down? I don’t know how much more explaining there is too it truthfully?
Hey man we are all trying to have a civil discussion. There isn’t any need for that. I personally don’t want to see this thread locked again.
He has a valid point.
You have made claims that it is easy after a planet has been picked over on the initial rush to still find the resources.
Make a video man. You could be doing someone who has no clue what to look for a a service and giving them a fighting chance next time.
If it was meant in an intentional way of needing help, I would have no issue with offering.
In a truthful opinion, the resources on the T6-T7 planets are for players with a little more experience on the game. If you can’t read an atlas, don’t have the skills or tools to mine on said planets, I would recommend starting on a lower tier planet practicing with something abundant on there. The rest is pretty self explanatory. The Petrolim that is underground, is exactly where it shows you on the atlas. It’s just a case of finding the altitude.
I did 7 spots today like this and only one time I found a pool of petrolim directly under; all the other spots had little or no caves all the way to mantle or lava; some areas were swiss cheese from other people mining and I couldn’t see any petrolim left in atlas-marked areas - so either atlas still shows exhausted resources or the shown hot spots are not accurate enough to make it easy to locate (which then means, as @blinvir stated, a complete waste of time, tools, strenght brews etc.)
so it stands as true - first few hours of exo existence is the time to be there for the new liquids; after that there is another 8-ish hour when one can still get some resources (more time spent but still productive enough); today was over 24h since the world I got to existed and only 1 out of 7 petrolim spots I checked was really there without much fuss;
so, no matter how much math someone puts here (that there are 500 blocks left on the planet etc.), it’s not really anything anyone will even try to retrieve as it takes too much time and consumables and tools (and I will stress time as the most important factor)
I do not usually have the greatest of luck collecting some of these rare resources but I am 100% against this suggestion. Sometimes I get lucky and notice of EXO early and get on a planet early on before everyone else has you’re saying that I should be penalized for an occasional Good Fortune? This game is supposed to be based on an economy run by the players themselves. I do not believe that socialist manipulation it’s something I want to see in this Game .
Yes I understand the big forces in the game will usually get a majority of the stuff and I totally understand how that would demoralize some of you he’ll it does to me sometimes! Still I am a believer that every dog has their day and that day might be today for you for all you know. If the game developers were to implement some socialist type buff your day would be far less then awesome!
if you are a casual player and cannot access the many resources that you wish to access here is a thought in fact it is a golden strategy that I am also a believer in : network with other players become friends and allies. One person might be really awesome and grabbing resources that other people can I get but maybe you are a great Builder and could help them build something or maybe you’re great at farming or collecting resources that are tedious. Scratch my back I’ll scratch your back and vice versa. That’s how the economy works are those that are wise enough to embrace it. You will find that both your friends and allies and yourself Prosper greatly
This example really point out why “grind” in this game doesn’t make any sense.
Other MMORPG games have “grind” as one of play style. However, mostly those item drop from monster by low % chance. That means if you lucky enough or you prefer to spend a lot of time, you will get a fair result.
In Boundless version’s “grind” which is people are grind for limited resources (at least in short time). This means if you have no life and basically live in the game you can always get most resources at first place.
On the other hand, people who has life in real world, they have no chance or even lower chance to get those “rare” result. This make the game very unbalance and unfair to a lot of players. If the dev team only want players who have no life to play this game, all the things make sense. Otherwise, it’s not healthy for the population at all.
Also Boundless is more like sandbox game instead of MMORPG, so any kind of building materials shouldn’t be that hard to obtain because usually we need huge amount in one project. It makes more sense for applying on any weapons or foods which can buff your survive ability.
Again, a lot of game make their grind system by killing monsters for reason, sometimes too creative is not a good thing.
… Just more brainstorming, but on this, maybe then also making the rare fluids a really rare mob drop could perhaps be a partial solution? Maybe only from the mobs on the proper exo worlds, and specific new variants? Balance would be tricky to keep it rare, but where maybe a few dozen an hour or so could be doable for a good hunter?
WADE above this response suggested an idea that maybe the monsters in the area or on that particular planet would have a very tiny fraction of a chance of dropping those type resources…
I think that actually is not a bad idea but it has to be a fraction of a percent rare drops maybe once every 40 to 75 monsters or something.
I’m done with this thread.
The resource is there and has been there since the planets spawned. How you play or how much you play should have never been brought into any of these arguments.
The material is meant to be rare, it is rare. And the people that need it will get it. If there’s anyone that hasn’t got any, that doesn’t play a lot and that needs it PM me and I can help you get started with some pieces to find your own
Like how RRs drop oort stone occasionally, I like that idea
That’s what I was thinking - drop rate higher than a feather but the monsters themselves more rare. Have to be on the right world, and maybe make the new variants a bit tougher. Give the hunters more challenge.
They should apply mostly rare materials to meteor system because this is the only system currently we have similar to dungeon in other game. Its a system will allow a lot of players do one thing at same time. And just make rng drop for everyone, and as long as players involve in group hunt, they will get the thing they need one day, this make causal players possible to involve to new system.
