Remove Coffers? [POLL]

Should Coffer rewards be replaced by a generic “Click here to receive awards” button, or something similar, to avoid the perception of being “loot boxes”?

Please explain why you want the coffers to stay if you pick that option.

Rewards but guess that’s semantics. And I say other because I really don’t care how they come to us.

i like that you dont have to search for the objective or feat…a nd just can click Collect All

Why do you want the coffers to stay?

what’s the problem with coffers?

Did you read the what I wrote up top in the first post?

I never quite understood why this just isn’t automatic, It never made sense why you had to click a button to get the rewards and this is extremely odd for skill points. it should just be automatically given to you when you meet the requirements and then there can be some kind of notification or popup telling you what you got and why.

Just make it automatic.

Welp, I can already see I screwed up this poll because people aren’t reading my post and instead are just reading the Poll Options. lol.

I say remove them simply because of the visual look of them can be perceived to be a lootbox from an outsider’s perceptive. There’s a reason why people in the Steam reviews have been leaving negative reviews and calling the game P2W and that it has lootboxes.

Yes, this is mostly people ignorant of what they really are and that nothing in The Exchange is a lootbox or packaged up into a lootbox.

I think redesigning the visual graphic and animation of it to look like some sort of letter, a pack of cards, a folded up piece of paper, etc. that unfolds, bursts open out of some sort of packaging, and reveals everything. Sort of like how digital card games do it with their packs. If the devs that handle that part of the game could give us some mock ups of it, that would go a long ways in picking something that’s a little better visually.

I don’t know why either. I hate how long the animation is too and I don’t believe you can skip it either with ESC. If you can, then why not just make it automatic? lol

I think the gaming audience’s aversion to loot boxes is ridiculous, but putting my developer hat on and being pragmatic I would avoid the imagery in a premium priced game at this time. Not worth the battle.

There’s more advantages to switching to a more traditional quest reward collection flow. Players will return back to the objectives screen to claim the reward which lets them know exactly which quest they completed and lets them select the next one to work on. Having separate screens for quests and rewards is one more weird thing to remember when starting out.

It’s a little bit of work to fully get there. You’d also have to port level up collection to the objective screen (Maybe by giving players an infinitely repeatable “Level up” quest). And daily quests would also need a new UI to claim them.

Overall I think standardizing all “do task -> get reward” actions to a single quest board is a good simplification.

I keep seeing the comparison to Creativerse, and other F2P games.

People say the same thing over and over, “Loot boxes suck, but as long as the game is F2P I don’t care, but this game costs 40$ AND HAS LOOT BOXES? NO WAY.”

And because I can’t comment on their reviews, I can’t say “This game has no loot boxes” and even if I did, no one would care, and would call me a White Knight.

Boundless needs a community manager full-time who can make decisions like this. Coffers should have been removed MONTHS ago. How many thousands of people have now browsed the game, seen “loot boxes” and decided to never buy it?

Most people click the Quick-Collect All button anyway! And I don’t know what most of the rewards boxes are for doing. Stuff happens … I go click the button every now and then.

I’m probably most aware of the level up one for the skill points. Should there be some sort of on-screen thing to say unspent skill-points instead. Maybe up to L50?

In my personal opinion it was a huge mistake to use the box opening and rewards flying visual for objectives, feats, level ups, plots, etc.
Granted it’s good that you know what rewards you got for what, but this whole visual is just burned in peoples heads.
It became synonymous for microtransactions and random outcomes.

I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of the people who cry microtransactions in negative 10mins playtime reviews didn’t even reach the actual shop and just saw the level and objective rewards.

I would keep the exchange but completely change the visual of the rewards to something that is not so heavily negatively loaded. I would not even use the visual for the actual shop, tbh.

XP from loot boxes coffers is not affected by teaching food. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

It was the first thing I tried when I got my hands on a pie for the first time. :see_no_evil:
It even said so on the item tool tip before they updated them to show actual values.

It would be better to replace the coffer icons with icons of the actual rewards on both the exchange, and reward screens along with the icons for the currency boxes in the platform (steam, psn) stores.

Existing players know that the coffers are not the notorious lootboxes like the ones from EA (Electronic Annihilation) or Activi$ion, but new players run a mile on seeing them in-game and in the platform stores.

Hmm here I thought it was too. Coulda sworn I saw higher xp gain from the coffer. But it’s been so long since I’ve used one of those teaching things I could just be mistaken

I would prefer them to be automatic.

I can see why they did it though this game doesn’t have the standard leveling system that other games have but still would like it to be automatic. flash my 50+ level then flash my 300+ cubits I would also prefer a npc to go to for getting more plots along with many other things but that’s just me.
