Then they should change the reward to a letter that opens like other games. Many games give the rewards through an in game message.
There is zero benefit to using coffers. Zero.

I’ve never seen the reviews you’re talking about. Perhaps post a link to these reviews, it may validate your opinion and change my mind.
I disagree. Either way is fine with me though. I don’t think it matters. People are going to complain about everything.
Letters would basically be login rewards. People will complain about that.
Well the top review on Steam right now is
https://steamcommunity.com/id/desolater_iv/recommended/324510/
and they say it’s filled with microtransations. Their other point is it can takes ages to do things, which sometimes isn’t entirely untrue, but I think people will latch on to the first part…at least 728 people have found it helpful.
EDIT: IMO devs of games should be allowed to reply to reviews, even if they’re locked for public response.
They are, im not sure why none of the devs have responded to that specific one
Yeah, I just noticed, devs can respond. I just checked another dev response and no other comments were allowed so there must be an allowance for dev responses.
I don’t see what’s wrong with coffers, at all.
Most games have a reward system.
Players get rewarded and it makes them happy.
Boundless does a good job of stripping away all of the predatory practices of loot boxes, but unfortunately the optics of a coffer is too close to a loot box. Both the plot exchange and objective coffers look like they were lifted out of a loot box or mobile app game. These systems need to be presented differently.
Objective coffers look too much like the random loot coffers of games like overwatch designed to tempt players into spending RL money to gamble on the drop they want. My suggestion is to simply bundle these rewards in a different way- rather than claiming your coffer which bursts open with your 100 coin and 1000 xp and a skill point, change the delivery method. Present just the reward minus the coffer animation so there is no hint of the reward being maybe randomly generated. We all know the rewards aren’t random, but a new player might assume that they are and react poorly as a result.
Plot coffers should lose the multiple purchasing size approach. The current selection with cubits in varying increments looks like the mobile app approach designed to tempt players to spend larger sums of currency to get the best rate on a bulk purchase. Since all plot coffers are the same cubit per plot, this is an unnecessary negative perception. Instead, allow the player to dictate exactly how many cubits they want to spend to get any number of plots. If I want to buy plots 13 at a time, I should be able to.
Coffers could be so much better implemented in game as a randomly generated reward mechanism. Spawn them in wilderness with random rewards much like a meteor without the combat. It would add a nice reward for exploring a planets wilderness. Coffer type could indicate the quality of rewards.
Literally no one is suggesting we remove rewards…
And that’s a proper use of the word “literally” also. I have literally seen not one single person advocate for the removal of rewards.
I never said “remove rewards”.
If you can’t see how coffers are similar to loot boxes and how that is detrimental to the game then by all means enjoy your time on this sinking ship.
How is it detrimental to the game?
The coffers are fine and go along with BL’s aesthetics & this genre. If they switch to letters, they will devolve into another alt-earth fantasy style MMO. The cool space-oort themed coffers are fine. I just logged into 3 of my other very similar games…they all have reward chests, loot bags, boxes, crates, etc. Rewards are awesome, I like opening boxes and getting the prize inside. People have lots of misconceptions about many things. Changing a “coffer” animation to a “letter” graphic, won’t stop that.
It’s not. This game just needs a TON content and maybe a different intro price point.
Most other games are either free to play or are massive AAA games with huge marketing budgets.
Wonderstruck cannot afford negative publicity.
The coffers need to go.
Coffers aren’t the problem. The lack of content is the problem.
I agree with this, but it is their job to counter-act those reviews (if needed) with correct information and more info/vids/etc regarding game play. Until then, people are making assumptions.
Also people who like to bash games on steam is a problem. But they will bash games no matter what. It’s what they like to do because they have nothing better to do.
The coffer Need to GO. Pay2Win is where one player is able to take advantage over others. They can buy, with real life cash, things that let you be able to more and better than those who can’t afford to. You Win the game because you have more real life money, not from playing. Yes, I know we don’t win this game, but do those who are looking at this game know that? Seems they don’t understand it.
Whether we want to accept that it has a negative effect, the numbers state it does. On a forum I belong to two players stated they wouldn’t buy the game because they are p2w. I explained how the coffers, skill points and reward are and they went okay, but how many others out there hear that it is play to win and don’t have someone explain how it works? Coffer are seen as a means of buying items that let you have a Advantage over other players, plain and simple. That is how they receive the items they use to win the game over others who can’t afford to pay for them.
We need a letter, or a nice big announcement that pops up that says “You have Earned rewards for achieving objectives and leveling up”. The word rewards says you don’t have to pay for it, telling why lets them know they were earned, not bought. Emphasis needs to be made at the start of the game that they will earn rewards for performing certain tasks, that it gives them coins to spend on items they will want, cubits to use to get plots they will need and skill points to put toward helping them advance in the game.
Plain and simple, this is what you get for doing certain tasks, you do Not have to pay for them.
I completely disagree. There is no P2W in this game. If you buy plots, the game has a fail-safe. It auto generates new worlds. This is infinite.
As in other MMOs, this game has a learning curve. It’s up to the devs to flesh out the wiki and provide players with enough information. Seems like a lot of people making false assumptions would have a different view if they understood the game better.
