State of the Forum Moderation

With everyone’s comments about the state of the forums, or moderator behaviour, creeping into other topics all the time, then getting flagged or removed as off topic. I though I would make a space for some respectful feedback about the moderation of the forums.

I personally suffer from mental health issues, and personally think everyone that is human has them. With that in mind, when I did something wrong on the forums (cant even remember what it was now), there was no clear communication from any of the moderators, only a few useful messages from other forum members, and a shot chat with support helped me get through what could have been a simple thing if my flagged or removed posts had been accompanied by a message from the moderator explaining why.

I realise you may have to flag allot of rude/inappropriate comments that clearly need to be removed, but if you got together on the admin side of the forum and worked out a clear and concise message to copy and paste if someone is being rude, or other obvious flags, and then the moderator need only add one sentence explaining the context of the flag.

I think this would really help foster a better feeling for some on the forums, but I may be wrong, I ask those that get flagged allot to speak out RESPECTFULLY as to weather this or something else may help.

I’ll speak to this. Firstly, we do not discuss why something was moderated.

Since we cannot talk about specific issues that have occurred, let’s discuss the way Discourse works, if something is flagged by the community for moderation it is brought to the moderator’s attention and then an action is taken on that.

When the community flags something, there is a reason it was flagged.

If I recall that same reason (one of the above) is sent to the creator of the post/thread. It seems pretty straight forward.

All that said, if you have issues or questions, you can reach out to the moderators or email support@playboundless.com

But if you’re saying something negative, people will probably flag your post as inappropriate.
You have “free speech”, as long as it stays within the bounds of the Code of Conduct.

I had to learn that lesson the hard way…

Not only this, but the community could flag it as off topic, inappropriate, or any of the above I listed.

Passive aggressive people win the forums. They can be nasty and get away with it, while anyone trying to defend themselves gets smacked. I don’t know if there is any way to actually fix that, but it breeds a nasty atmosphere and stops a lot of people from talking. Which means the passive aggressive people are the only ones talking, and further diminishes the conversation.

Here’s a hot take:

The state of the game itself is so stagnant and so devoid of any future that we’ve resigned ourselves to making forum posts about the state of the forum itself.

If you try to express your views on the frustrating state of the game your posts get removed…

It’s as if I don’t care at all if my posts get removed and I just want to ensure I continue sharing my disdain for Monumental and how they’ve essentially made Boundless vaporware.

You can express your concerns/views on anything you want as long as it falls within TOS.

@Dhusk did you share your disdain for Wonderstruck when it first started? We had radio silence and no updates for over 2-3 years prior to Monumental. I know I was very vocal about the lack of communication from James, just as I have been about Monumental.

I was EXTREMELY vocal in my disdain for Wonderstruck and James. I’m not sure if the posts are still there but, yes, I’m fairly certain I was one of James’ least favorite people.

Im sure most people are self aware enough to know why there posts get removed. Like come on.

I’m 100% aware and okay with all of my post removals. I’m not purposely trying to break TOS or upset people but this is a forum and, as such, it’s a place to vent one’s frustrations with the current state. I will continue doing so until Monumental proves me wrong.

Like Georgio mentioned most people know when they post something that their post is going to be flagged by the community or at worst removed.

On a personal level I dislike removing posts, but as a moderator I have to remove posts that are flagged by the community and/or go against TOS. I also feel there are various levels of criticism, constructive or destructive.

I too hope Monumental does something with the game much like many people do, but who knows what’s going to happen. I’m just going to play the game and let things play out. After being very vocal about it for nearly 5 years … with James and Monumental … I’m at the point of we shall see where things go.

Keeping it on topic feel free to message me if you want to voice concerns about the way things are being moderated, otherwise I’d reach out to support.

I totally agree with you. You should be able to vent. We all want more from boundless but I try and stay positive. Hopefully after whatever the hold up is. Things will get moving. There still isn’t any other game out there like boundless.
I google for new voxel games every few months. And nothing that can scratch this itch. lol.

With this being the case I think one should have to pick one of these not just a flag. I have seen too many forums where post are flagged just because someone does not agree with someone’s opinion. You can offer your opposing opinion without denying someone else’s ability to express theirs. Just keep it civil is what is asked. Moderators need to keep this in mind as well.

I agree, but when something is flagged (with or without a reason) it goes to the moderators for review and if it is flagged enough times by the community, it gets hidden then still goes to a moderator to review. It then falls on the moderators to determine if it breaks TOS.

I can’t speak for all the moderators, but I know I’ve never hidden a post that didn’t break TOS regardless of my opinion of the post or the person that posted it. Knowing the others active ones, Im confident they wouldn’t either.

I am self aware as to why i make posts, but unfortunately not aware of others decisions to remove them. After reading through the TOS i still dont know why two of my posts were removed, thankfully i was able to reach out over email to support and got the answer to the question I had. I have realised this is the way to deal with support issues now as It states nowhere in tos that your forum post will be removed when trying to find answers to a question. I 100% did not break TOS with two different posts that were removed, it seems that I somehow wound up the moderators without meaning to, and they took my posts as in some way aggresive when they were not at all. I felt as though i was being punished for asking simple questions, which really wont help potential players with some sort of issue to work out…

I have spoken to several people who now just avoid the forums because of the way its managed, used to watch someone who streamed boundless allot who quit because of what they called the ‘Toxic Community’. I understand you cant expect people who freely moderate forms to not have to put extra work in having to communicate with people, and you need strict rules to help this flow, but something about the culture of the moderators on this forum breeds and feeds what it dislikes…
