I just think in the long run, it is nice to have the events, but the game has to attract new players and not just give existing players something to do every once in a while. Actually it needs to keep existing players engaged also so that the planets do not seem so empty when a new players starts.
We shall see what happens over the next 6 months. Hopefully rentals will be out, which might solve some of the issues players have with other players builds and maybe more fundamental changes to core mechanics. I know several players that are waiting for rentals to come back to the game. And hopefully rentals will create a more interesting universe.
I responded on that thread, but to clarify here - this thread was removed due to a breach of the Boundless CoC - ānaming and shamingā is not permitted.
This entire discussion is an interesting window into the customerās mindset in the context of gaming, whereas some feel an obligation to become voluntary employees who do PR and marketing work for the company. And it is not just a small studio phenomena. People spend inordinate amounts of time on Steam arguing and shilling for some of the most popular and profitable games of all time.
Sure, people on here like the game and do not want to see it fizzle. But are there many other industries where the customer feels this sort of obligation?
Fascinating. It would be an interesting research project for someoneās marketing thesis or dissertation.
Can only speak for myself: I truly enjoy sharing the love of my favorite games. Particularly, I like to try to promote on Twitter interesting indie games, especially ambitious ones by small crews. Never been asked to do it (unless you consider a follow a subtle ask), never been compensated in any way. The reward is really in seeing others come to enjoy the games I do - in getting a thank you from somebody who bought a game I tweeted about, the complements on my advice, screenshots and all mean the world to me, and particularly love when I can make people laugh. And probably most important, the friendships Iāve made within the communities, in the case of Boundless a few really great ones that mean so much.
I really want Boundless to be around for many years, to share the love, to bring in others who will feel the same. With regards to the NMS base, convinced if Boundless got the same exposure, it would be doing as well if not better⦠I love NMS to bits but I consider Boundless the better game. There are many, many out there Iām convinced would love it as much, if given the exposure to it. So, for games I love like Boundless, there is that. For ones in development, some I truly want to see take off, where I just love everything Iām seeing - Peace Island is an example of that right now for me, absolutely love everything about it and the developerās mindset and attitude.
Thatās fine, I just donāt see how this is allowed down below and that which was posted is not.
You can clearly see it being held in the same light, However her post is still here, or is it possible for the post to only show screenshots and talk about the situation without naming names?
I am not here to argue, its last thing i wanted. However there seems to be a double standard here.
what does it mean, āThe name of this thread says it allā. That should be held to the same standards as naming and shaming.
The biggest issue here is a lot of people say they love the game, but will do nothing more to actually help the game. Its not a secret that the player number is low.
I cannot see why its such a big issue with the majority of players here to help the game.
It is just sad that you have people that scream at you about just how beautiful, how kind and amazing the community is, yet now you see your community for what it is when asked for help. The game is in dire need of players. The worlds feel empty.
This game needs more attention to steam, I am willing to help, regardless of my views on development. Best part is I am willing to do this for free. I do not particularly care what people think about me or how they feel about me, my intentions have been clear since the beginning.
@bucfanpaka However I do applaud yourself as if Iām not mistaken you said you were a console gamer and the mere fact that you took the effort to help for the pc side of things is incredible.
Thank you for this - I mostly play console, but did pick up Boundless on Steam late last year, as I wanted to play it even more.
Wouldnāt say Iām screaming about the community though⦠sharing my thoughts and experiences, and Iāve heard it echoed by many others. Being kind, positive, and helpful generally gets you similar in return. There are many, many here who clearly love to help out, to share in the love of the game and also be kind to others because it is how they are. It is true that we are very passionate about the game so things can get a little heated at times, but I stand firmly by that this is the best community I have ever encountered, and Iāve been a part of a lot of gaming communities over the years, 40 years old and an active gamer for most of them, very active in other bases (NMS particularly) and forums (GameFAQs one example) at various points.
my message was that maybe you tend to project your toxicity onto others; and you have proven my point very swiftly; I dunno, maybe you have a tough day or something that affects your mood and attitude - weāve all been there; its good to take a step back and let the tension dissolve
u r a bit too tense - lighten up, otherwise life will continue to be difficult (no matter out there in rl or in virtual social space)
I have a theory about this. Although it is not exclusive to games, it usually happens a lot in them, due mainly to one reason: feelings and emotions.
First of all those games that arouse intense emotions in us, end up being like a part of ourselves, especially those that we play in childhood or in hard times in life.
Secondly, those online games with communities, where you make a series of personal relationships and form a kind of family, the game is usually seen as the house where the family lives. Home.
when you accused the community of being toxic? even though there was no sign of that at all (I read this topic from the start and along all off topic moments etc.)
Personally I never look at a steam forum for any game. They are extremely negative and far more toxic than any other forum I have ever seen. Besides reviews are only somebody elseās opinion.
If OP really wanted to help the game grow, maybe not being so negative would help. It is possible to express your opinion and have a discussion without being so unpleasant.
Tbh, I apologise for taking this thread so
Much off topic. I was just kind of making a point about this being the relevant place to talk about the game/support seen as though itās multi-platform.
In terms of you finding toxicity in this thread, thereās only Light hearted banter at the most. This community is small and Iād say has the best community I have ever experienced on any game Iāve ever played. Just today @powerman (donāt know his tag) helped me with 200 combustion particle - for free. And that was just one thing that happened today⦠the list could be enough to fill this one thread 1000x over. There will always be bickering in a community, but we are all friends and thatās the main thing.
In terms of your original comment, I agree that offering support on different platforms would probably be helpful. But at what point do you stop at, itās better to have us all in one place rather than some on steam forums, some on Twitter, some on Reddit. This forum serves its purpose extremely well and truthfully speaking, how often do you get to speak directly with the Devs (and even the CEO) of a game for instant direct help/feedback⦠Iāll help you, none.
If you needed help/support, this place is no secret. And if thereās ever anything you need help with in game my handle is āNawtyā, you can PM me in game or on here and Iāll do everything I can to help
